Aqui no Brasil designers não tem condições de bancar moleskines. Sempre

temos que improvisar com blocos de rascunhos com espiral, ou usar páginas

versas de documentos. Até um guardanapo nos é útil (Hans Donner que o diga).

Pensando nestas pobres criaturas que ofereço um tutorial de um caderno aos

padrões de moleskine utilizando materiais ridiculamente baratos. Eis o

Molespobre.

Designers in Brazil can't afford moleskines. We always need to improvise with blank

pages of used notebooks and stuff like that. Even a napkin could be useful as sketch

page (Hans Donner knows). So thinking about this poor working class i provide you a

tutorial to make a notebook in moleskine standards using cheap materials. Here's

Molespobre (molespoor).

1. Materiais necessários/ things you'll need

- Papelão: 21,5x14cm

- TNT: 7x10cm

- 4 Folhas de papel: 36x28cm

- Linha e agulha

- Atílio (borrachinha, gominha...)

- Cola branca

- Cardboard

- PP Non-Woven Fabric

- 4 paper sheets

- Thread and needle

- Rubber band

- White Glue

OBS: A capa precisa ser cortada de forma que as ondas do papelão fiquem

paralelas ao lado menor, ou seja, a altura.

Obs.: On the cover, you'll have to keep the cardboard flutes in vertical orientation.

2. Dobrar ao meio/ folding

Dobre 3 vezes ao meio as quatro folhas de papel. Poder ser o papel que você

preferir. Só evite os acima de 180 de gramatura, pois dificulta a dobra e altera ao

tamanho da lombada.

Fold the 4 sheets in half 3 times. You can use any paper you want. Avoid paper

weights above 180 g/m2.

3. Marcar e Costurar/ marking and sewing

Esse é o passo mais chato, porém como é um caderno pequeno, o trabalho não é

tão complicado. Primeiro junte os blocos e marque os furos aonde passará a

linha. Com a agulha, faça os furos antes de começar a costurar. Então coloque a

linha na agulha e dê alguns nós no final da linha ed forma que fique uma

bolinha grossa o suficiente para não passar pelos furos dos blocos.

A costura está divida em 4 etapas (ABCD) conforme a imagem abaixo. Cada etapa

representa a costura de um bloco do caderno. Na etapa A, comece pelo furo

indicado pelo número 1 de forma que a agulha entre no bloco. Puxe a linha até

chegar ao nó. Sempre mantenha a linha esticada. Vá até o furo seguinte

apontado pela linha pontilhada (indica que a linha está passando por dentro do

caderno). No furo seguinte entre no caderno e saia pelo furo número 2.

Siga para a etapa B. Pegue o segundo bloco e entre com a agulha pelo furo 3.

Estique a linha de forma não deixar os bloco frouxos. Siga costurando como na

etapa anterior até o furo número 4. Antes de passar para o bloco de cima, passe a

agulha por dentro do nó que está no furo número 1 e suba para a terceira etapa.

Na etapa C, entre pelo furo número 5 e vá até o número 6 da mesma forma que

os outros blocos. Quando a agulha sair do bloco, passe-a por trás da linha do

furo 3 e suba para o último bloco.

Na etapa D, repita o procedimento da etapa C. No furo 8, passe a agulha duas

vezes pelo bloco debaixo (furo 5) e dê um nó para finalizar a costura. Corte o

excesso de linha.

This is the most boring step. But considering the small size of the notebook, it's not

that complicated. First, you'll have to put the sectons together and mark the holes

through which you'll pass the needle. With the needle, make the holes before you

start sewing. Then pass the thread through the needle hole and make enough knots

at the end of the line to make a big knot that will not pass through the notebook

holes.

The sewing is divided in 4 steps (ABCD) according to the image below. Each step

represents the sewing of one section of the notebook. Step A: insert the needle in the

hole labeled number 1 in such a way that the needle enters into the notebook. Pull the

thread till it gets to the knot, always maintaining the thread fully stretched out. Go to

the next hole marked by the dotted line (indicates that the thread is inside the

notebook). In the next hole the needle comes inside the notebook and comes out

through the hole labeled number 2.

Go to step B. Take the next section and stick the needle through hole number 3.

Tighten the thread to avoid leaving the sections loose. Keep sewing as in the prior

step till reaching hole number 4. Before going to the next step, thread the needle

inside the knot in hole number 1 and go to the third step.

Step C: stick the needle inside hole number 5 and go to number 6 in the same way as

the others sections. When the needle comes out of the section pass it under the

thread between holes 2 and 3 and go up to the last section.

Step D: repeat the steps in procedure C. In hole number 8, pass the needle twice

through the section below (hole labeled 5) and make a knot to finallize the sewing.

Cut off any excess thread.

4. Colar o TNT/ gluying the non-woven fabric

O TNT tem a função de firmar os blocos e prendê-lo à capa. Como na imagem:

(1) cole um lado; (2) depois passe cola na lombada; (3) e por fim, cole o outro

lado. Deixe o TNT bem esticado e liso no caderno.

Non-woven fabric will hold steady the books and fix them to the cover. Just like the

picture, (1) glue one of the sides (2) glue the notebook spine (3) glue the other side.

The non-woven fabric should be very tight and even.

5. Cortar o caderno/ cutting the notebook

Com ajuda da régua, corte os três lados do caderno que não foram costurados.

0,4cm de cada lado é um tamanho razoável para cortar todas as folhas. Evite

cortar mais que isso.

With a ruler, cut the 3 sides of the notebook you haven't sewn before. 0,4cm in each

side should be enough. Avoid cutting more than that.

6. Vincar a capa/ creasing the cover

Antes de começar esta etapa, certifique-se que as ondas do papelão estão

paralelas ao lado maior. Para garantir mobilidade para a capa sem estragar o

caderno, é preciso marcar as dobras antes da montagem final. Para tal, basta

colocar uma régua na orientação da onda e dobrar a folha. Acredito que 2cm para

cada direção a partir do centro é suficiente. Faça o vinco nos dois lados da capa.

Creasing the cardboard flutes, you guarantee the cover won't wrinkle each time you

open it. Before starting this step, make sure the cardboard flutes are in vertical

orientation. Place the ruler in the flute orientation and crease the cardboard in the

center. From the center, crease 2 cm to the left and 2 cm to the right in both sides of

the cardboard.

7. Colar a capa ao caderno/ sticking the cover to the notebook

Passe a cola branca no verso da primeira capa de forma uniforme. Não coloque

cola demais. Podes usar um pincel para maior precisão. Cole a primeira página

do caderno cuidando para deixar a margem igual dos 3 lados. Repita o

procedimento com a contracapa. Deixe o caderno fechado sob algum objeto de

não muito peso para não amassar o papelão e deixe secar com alguns minutos.

Glue the back of the first cover homogeneously. Don't put on too much glue. A brush

should help doing that with precision. Glue the first sheet of the notebook, leaving

margins of the same sizes on the 3 sides. Do it again on the back cover. Close the

notebook and put it under a book or another object. Make sure this object isn't too

heavy, or the cardboard will wrinkle. Leave it there to dry for a few minutes.

8. Colocar o atílio/ placing the rubber band

Para finalizar, use o atílio para manter o molespobre fechado e está pronto!
