4) Serve immediately.

Bird Structures

Birds have many structures that help solve problems. Birds need safe places for their

eggs. Most birds keep their eggs in nests. Nests are structures that birds build. Birds wait for

the eggs to hatch in the nest.

Bird eggs look fragile. But the eggs are very strong. Eggs are structures. They keep

baby birds safe before they hatch.

When a baby bird is ready, it pecks its way out of its egg. It uses a structure to do this.

The structure is like a tooth. It goes away after the bird hatches.

Materials: chopped paper (newspaper, magazine, etc.), scissors, glue, bowl, paint brush and

plastic bag or plastic wrap.

Papel picado (jornal, revista, etc), tesoura, cola, tigela, pincel e sacola plástica ou plástico de

embalar (só para não grudar na tigela).

How to make:

- First, cut the paper into strips (corte os papéis em tiras)

- Next, cover the bowl with the plastic wrap. (cubra a tigela com o plástico para não

grudar)

- Then, spread the glue inside of the bowl on top of the plastic wrap and arrange the

strips criss-crossing. (espalhe a cola sobre o plástico e coloque as tiras de papel

de forma cruzada).

- Finally, let the bowl dry overnight and remove the plastic. (deixe secar da noite

para o dia e remova o plástico).

court. They were ready to watch the game.

The teams came onto the court. The Tigers were green uniforms. The Wildcats wore red

uniforms. They were ready to compete.

was fouled. The game was tied with five seconds left. Then a Wildcat made a basket. It

We use “cause and effect” relationship to write about things that happen. In a sentence, na

effect is what happens. A cause is why it happens. Sometimes clue words come before or after

causes and effects.

(Usamos relação de causa e efeito pra escrever sobre coisas que acontecem. Numa frase, o

efeito é o que acontece. A causa é porque acontece. Algumas vezes as “palavras chaves” vem

antes ou depois de causas e efeitos.)

Circle the clue words in each sentence. Then underline the words that show cause.

Recipe - Chocolate Chip Cookie

• 125g of butter with no salt (125g de manteiga sem sal em temperatura ambiente)

• ¾ cup of sugar ( ¾ xícara de açúcar)

• ½ cup of brown sugar ( ½ xícara de açúcar mascavo)

• 1 egg (1 ovo)

• 1 ¾ cup of wheat flour ( 1 ¾ xícara de farinha de trigo)

• 1 teaspoon of yeast ( 1 colher de chá de fermento)

• 300g of chocolate in little pieces (300g de chocolae picado)

• 1 teaspoon of vanilla essence (1 colher de chá de essência de baunilha)

How to make it:

(Como fazer)

- Mix in a big bowl the butter, the sugar, brown sugar, vanilla essence.

-Misture num grande pote a manteiga, o açúcar, açúcar mascavo e a essência de baunilha.

- Add the mixed egg in the bowl.

- Adicione o ovo batido no pote.

- Add the wheat flour and mix it.

- Adicione a farinha de trigo e misture.

- At last, add the yeast and mix a lot!

- Por último, adicione o fermento e misture bastante!

- When you finish, add the little pieces of chocolate.

- Quando terminar, acrescente os pequenos pedacinhos de chocolate.

- Make little balls and put it in the oven, over buttered paper, for 15 minutes to 20

minutes on 250 degrees.

- Forme pequenas bolinhas e coloque no forno pra assar, sobre papel manteiga, por 15 a

20 minutos a 250 graus.

While the cookies are in the oven, let’s make some activities:
