  • Actress

    Fernanda Serrano was born in Lisbon

    on November 15, 1973. She is a

    Portuguese actress and model. She

    has been a model since the age of

    fifteen, and debuted as an actress in

    Barcelona in 1996, participating in the

    film Muere, Mi Vida. She is known as

    being the protagonist in several soap

    operas.

  • Artist

    Joana Vasconcelos was born in Paris

    on November 8, 1971. She is a

    contemporary Portuguese artist and

    she is considered one of the most

    striking artists of the last decade.

    Having taken her degree in 1996, she

    often works with sculpture and

    installation. Her most famous work,

    “Nectar”, belongs to the Berardo

    Collection and is exhibited at the

    Berardo Collection Museum, in CCB.

    Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro, born in

    Funchal on February 5, 1985, is a Portuguese

    footballer who plays as a midfielder and on

    the wing at Real Madrid. Ronaldo began his

    career in the Andorinha de Santo António

    Football Club. He is currently one of the best

    paid football players in the world. In April

    2012 he was considered the most valuable

    football player in the world, after a study that

    attributed gains of 40 million euros annually

    to the Portuguese player.

    José Avillez was born in Lisbon on 24

    October 1979. He is a Portuguese chef and

    entrepreneur. He is one of the most

    respected chefs in Portugal and was a chef at

    the Tavares Restaurant from 2008 to 2011.

    This restaurant was awarded a star by the

    Michelin Guide in 2010. The technoemotional

    type of cuisine has already made him won

    several international awards, including the

    Chef of the Future in 2005 by the International

    Academy of Gastronomy.

    Manuel Vicente Alfredo da Costa was a

    Portuguese distinguished professor and

    surgeon . He was born on February 2, 1859,

    in Margao (Portuguese India), but it was in

    Portugal that he completed his academic

    career. The recognition he received

    resulted especially from his studies and

    initiatives in the field of obstetrics. He died

    on April 2, 1910, without having achieved his

    greatest dream - the construction of a

    maternity hospital. Finally, on December 5,

    1932 his name was given to our still known

    maternity.

    February 7, 1963. He is one of the

    most recognizable faces of Portuguese

    journalism. Former Director of TVI

    Antonio Marinho Pinto de Sousa was born in

    Portraits of Portuguese Justice in 2007, and An

    Unequal Combat in 2010 .

    Tiago Monteiro was born in Porto on 24 July

    1976 and is a Portuguese famous racing

    driver. He debuted in this category at the

    service of the Jordan team in 2005. In 2006,

    he competed with the renamed Midland F1

    Racer, the Russian naturalized Canadian Alex

    Schneider. In the middle of that year, the

    team was sold to the Dutch company Spyker,

    manufacturer of cars. In 2007, because he had

    not achieved a place in a Formula 1 team, he

    joined the WTCC championship by Seat

    Sport, where he still races. That year, he won

    his first two victories at WTCC in the 2nd

    heats in Puebla and Estoril.

    Alexandre Quintanilha was born on August 9,

    1945. He is an internationally renowned

    Portuguese physicist and professor at the

    Institute of Biomedical Sciences Abel Salazar. He

    took a degree in Theoretical Physics in 1968, and

    a doctorate in Solid State Physics in 1972. In

    1991 he was appointed director of the Centre for

    Experimental Cytology and professor at the

    Institute of Biomedical Sciences Abel Salazar, at

    the University of Porto. He is also the

    coordinator of the Institute of Molecular and Cell

    Biology, also in Porto.

    Ana Moura was born in Santarém in

    September 1979. She is a Portuguese fado

    singer that is internationally recognized. She

    debuted with Keep my life in hand (2003), and

    then released It happened (2004). She sings in

    several places in the evening and became

    known on television with Antonio Pinto Basto

    in Fado of Portugal. She managed to achieve

    the Triple Platinum for sales exceeding 55,000

    units, and the remaining 120 weeks in the Top

    30, Portugal.

    José de Sousa Saramago was born in Golegã on

    November 16, 1922 and died on June 18, 2010.

    He was a Portuguese writer, screenwriter,

    essayist, journalist, dramatist, novelist and poet.

    He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature

    in 1998. In 1995 he also won the Camões Prize,

    the most important literary prize of the

    Portuguese language. Saramago was considered

    responsible for the international recognition of

    effective Portuguese prose. On August 24, 1985

    he was awarded the grade of Commander of

    the Military Order of St. James of the Sword

    and on December 3, 1998 he was elevated to

    the Grand Collar of the same Order.
