CEBADO O PRIMING SEMÁNTICO Activación o gatillado que conduce hacia la

verificación del significado de una percepción. El cebado consiste en que un estímulo recibido por

alguien facilita la respuesta a otro estímulo relacionado.

Por ejemplo, si a personas normales se les pide que pulsen un botón cuando una cara familiar aparece en una serie de caras presentadas rápidamente en secuencia, el botón resulta pulsado con mayor rapidez si un nombre relacionado ha aparecido recientemente. Lady Di > príncipe Carlos

Entonces la presentación de un nombre sirve de cebo para las reacciones a otro nombre, para que se gatille el mecanismo de comprensión semántica. Tiene que ver con el fenómeno de percepción

subliminal.

TIME COURSE OF RETRIEVAL OF MEANING OF AMBIGUOUS WORDS

With a very short amount of time to process the prime word (35 ms): LH shows priming for both dominant (MONEY)

and subordinate (RIVER) meanings. RH takes more time to activate both meanings

(by at least 300 ms). At a longer duration (750 ms):

LH shows no facilitation for the subordinate meaning.

RH shows sustained facilitation for both meanings.

CONCLUSION

Burgess and Simpson (1988) hypothesized that this processing difference may be advantageous for the disambiguation of ambiguous words during normal sentence processing.

In normal circumstances, the LH quickly selects an appropriate meaning and deactivates all inappropriate meanings of the word.

However, in sentences where the LH makes an error in its selection, the role of the RH may be to supply the alternative meaning.

En tales tareas, el sujeto tiene que suprimir significados alternativos o escoger el elemento mejor de varias elecciones.

Por ejemplo, al sujeto se le puede presentar con un sustantivo como cuchillo y pedir que responda con un verbo, como cortar.

… se ve en tareas lingüísticas que piden un número amplio de respuestas.

En tales tareas, el sujeto tiene que producir significados alternativos o alistar tantos elementos como posible.

Por ejemplo, el experimento anterior se puede continuar pidiéndole al sujeto que responda con otro verbo, como tirar.

CEBADO DE SUMA1. A convergent (three dominant) prime: all three words were related to the dominant

meaning of the ambiguous target word (minute, watch, time > second).

2. A divergent (two dominant + one subordinate) prime: two words were related to the dominant meaning and one word was related to the subordinate meaning of the ambiguous target word. The subordinate priming word was always presented as the second stimulus, i.e. between the two dominant priming words (minute, first, time > second).

3. A divergent (one dominant + two subordinate) prime: two words were related to the subordinate meaning and one word was related to the dominant meaning of the ambiguous target word. The dominant priming word was always presented as the second stimulus, i.e. between the two subordinate priming words (first, watch, line > second).

4. A convergent (three subordinate) prime: all three words were related to the subordinate meaning of the ambiguous target word (first, last, line > second).
