O Pr-escolar na ndia no um direito fundamental, com umpercentual muito baixo de crianas em estabelecimentos de

ensino pr-escolar. Isto levou a uma corrida no setor privadopara

preencher esse vazio. O setor privado que atende a secorelativamente mais ricas da sociedade abriu um nmero decreches e escolas.

O sistema educacional na ndia consiste em 10 anos deensino elementar, sendo que o governo providencia educaogratuita as crianas de 6 a 14 anos de idade no mbito dodireito das crianas e a livre educao obrigatria (Right ofChildren to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act,legislao aprovada no final do ano de 2009). Apos o decimo

ano deve-se pagar uma taxa para continuar os estudos. Aofinal do decimo ano, o aluno deve decidir em que reapretende dedicar sua carreira e as opes so: Artes,Comercio e Cincia.

Devido as situaes histricas e religiosas, a taxa de escolaridadefeminina e bem inferior a masculina. Atualmente, existem algumaspoliticas para incentivar a educao feminina tal como taxas de

universidade mais baratas. A ndia participa do movimento EDUCAOPARA TODOS (Education for all EFA) que tem como principais focos:cuidados na primeira infncia e educao, educao primaria universal,alfabetizao de adultos, igualdade de gnero e aspectos relacionados aqualidade da educao.
