para a msica. Estas so palavras de Edson Arantes doNascimento, o brasileiro conhecido em todo o mundo dofutebol como Pel, o melhor jogador da histria do jogo bonito.

Nascido em Trs Coraes, Brasil, em 23 de outubro

de 1940, Pel cresceu numa famlia muitopobre. Para jogar futebol, ele usava uma meiacheia de panos velhos e papel.

Waldemar de Brito descobriu Pel, com aidade de onze anos, e o levou para os dirigentesdo time do Santos, no litoral de So Paulo. Elelhes disse: Este garoto vai ser o maior jogadorde futebol do mundo.

A Virtuoso Is BornI was born for football, just as Beethoven was

born for music. These are the words of Edson Arantesdo Nascimento, the Brazilian known all over the worldof football as Pel, the best player in the history of thebeautiful game.

Born in Tres Coracoes, Brazil, on 23 October

1940, Pel grew up in a very poor family. To playfootball, he used a sock filled with old cloth and paper.

Waldemar de Brito discovered Pel, at the age ofeleven, and took him to the leaders of the Santos teamin San Paulo. He said to them, This boy will be thegreatest football player in the world.

A Star Is Presented

At the 1958 World Cup in Sweden, Pel shocked the world byscoring six goals, including two in the final game. This gave Brazil itsfirst World Cup and sent a young boy on his way to international fame.He was only seventeen.

The world of wealthy European Football Clubs offered huge feesto sign the young star, but Brazil made Pel an official national treasureto prevent his leaving the country.

In 1962 Pel, at 21, was rated the best player in the world. Inthe opening game of the World Cup, Pel scored a masterful goalin which he beat four men before putting the ball past the keeper.Sadly, he was hurt and he could only watch as Brazil won its secondWorld Cup.
