TÉCNICAS DE LEITURA DE TEXTOS EM INGLÊS - SKIMMIMG E SCANNING

SKIMMING

SKIMMING é uma técnica para leitura de um texto. Técnica de leitura é uma estratégia para ajudar a ler um texto mais rapidamente. Na técnica do SKIMMING devemos prestar atenção ao layout do texto (forma como o texto está disposto), título, subtítulo, cognatos (palavras semelhantes em português), primeiras ou últimas linhas de cada parágrafo, informação não verbal (figuras, gráficos e tabelas). Por exemplo, quando folheamos “distraidamente” uma revista ou jornal estamos empregando a técnica do SKIMMING.

Hatshepsut was an 18th-dynasty pharaoh who was one of the handful of female rulers in Ancient Egypt. Her reign was the longest of all the female pharaohs, and her funerary temple still stands as a tribute to her incredible rise to power.

Born in the 15th century BC, Hatshepsut, daughter of Tuthmose I and Aahmes, both of royal lineage, was the favorite of their three children. When her two brothers died, she was in the unique position to gain the throne upon the death of her father. To have a female pharaoh was unprecedented, and probably most definitely unheard of as well. When Tuthmose I passed away, his son by the commoner Moutnofrit, Tuthmose II, technically ascended the throne. For the few years of his reign, however, Hatshepsut seems to have held the reins. SCANNING

Scanning é uma técnica de leitura que consiste em correr rapidamente os olhos pelo texto até localizar a informação específica desejada. O scanning é prática rotineira na vida das pessoas. Alguns exemplos típicos são o uso do dicionário para obter informação sobre o significado de palavras ou a utilização do índice de um livro para encontrar um artigo ou capítulo de interesse. Essa técnica não exige leitura completa nem detalha do texto.

How fake images change our memory and behaviour

For decades, researchers have been exploring just how unreliable our own memories are. Not only is memory fickle when we access it, but it’s also quite easily subverted and rewritten. Combine this susceptibility with modern image-editing software at our fingertips like Photoshop, and it’s a recipe for disaster. In a world where we can witness news and world events as they unfold, fake images surround us, and our minds accept these pictures as real, and remember them later. These fake memories don’t just distort how we see our past, they affect our current and future behaviour too – from what we eat, to how we protest and vote. The problem is there’s virtually nothing we can do to stop it.

Old memories seem to be the easiest to manipulate. In one study, subjects were showed images from their childhood. Along with real images, researchers snuck in manipulated photographs of the subject taking a hot-air balloon ride with his or her family. After seeing those images, 50% of subjects recalled some part of that hot-air balloon ride – though the event was entirely made up.
