- sistematizar e relacionar conceitos;
conhecimentos adquiridos;
- interpretar resultados com espírito crítico;
- adaptar os conhecimentos adquiridos a novas situações.
Learning outcomes of the curricular unit
The General Chemistry course is a basilar course intended to introduce students to
the basic concepts of chemistry concerning atomic and molecular structure,
chemical bonding and reactivity, in organic and inorganic structures. This course is
an indispensable pedagogical tool for the consolidation and development of
knowledge and skills that enables students to an appropriate progression in
chemistry-related areas.
Students are intended to be able to:
- organize and relate concepts;
- solve problems related to the topics covered, on the basis of acquired knowledge;
- interpret results critically;
- adapt the acquired knowledge to new situations.

Teaching methodologies
Teaching Methods
The subject is explained by teachers in lectures, emphasizing basic concepts of
general chemistry. Problems are solved by students in pratical classes.
Assessment Methods
Written exam, to be held at the end of the semester; or in alternative, two tests
carried out during the semester, with exemption from the final exam implying a
minimum classification of 10 marks in each test.
Continuous assessment in the tutorial classes (important aspects considered:
correct resolution of problems, theoretical understanding, number of presences,
test in which the capacity of applying acquired knowledge to new situations is
evaluated).
