Untitled until now

Story continued from the last edition of the magazine:

Eldain swore internally. How could he have been so foolish to be captured like

this? His eyes glided around, looking for his swords, but both had been taken;

even his horse had been detained with ropes. He smiled as he grabbed the spear

aimed at his chest. With a swift turn he yanked it out of the soldier’s hands and

clobbered 3 of the men surrounding him in the same time. It became clear to the

young legionnaires that this man would not be taken easily. With the spear held

in a defensive position in front of him, Eldain calmly said “Listen, I do not want

any trouble. And I think you would all like to stay in one piece. How about I comepeacefully, but not as your prisoner – rather, as a guest? Agreed?” The captain of

the group only nodded. The display of force had only been small but it had been

enough. But Eldain knew that he would have to watch his back. The fact that they

agreed now did not have to mean that they will oblige to it later. During the

journey, he could see all sorts of structures along the way. These romans truly

had mastered the art of building. They didn’t appear as the shoddy tent like

buildings of the Teutons or the farmhouses of the Gauls, but true buildings. Even

the wall around the city could be seen from afar, completely made from stone,

looking like it could hold out an entire legion of attackers.

The story will be continued in the next edition of the magazine.

This story is written by shadowspirrit.

Russia, officially known as the Russian Federation, is a

country at the North of Eurasia. The name Russia is

derived from Rus, a medieval state populated mostly by

the East Slavs. With a 17,075,400 km2 sized area, it is the

biggest country in the world. Russia appeared on the

political world map when the Soviet Union broke-up in1991. It is a country with a unique life - it may be good as

much as unsuitable for you, but it differs from other

countries greatly.

Demography and geography

One part of Russia is situated in Eastern Europe, while another

one is situated in Northern Asia. These two parts of the country

are separated by the Ural Mountains. Russia is a country of vast landscapes, vibrant life, beautiful contrasts and interesting

people. It extends across 9000 kilometers from west to east

and 5000 from north to south (the whole of northern Asia and

40% of Europe). When visiting Russia, especially if you come

by plane, you'll see neverending forests and lakes, scattered

among them, gleaming little churches in Moscow and

impressive tsar palaces in St. Petersburg.

The capital of Russia is Moscow and the second largest

city is St. Petersburg (which is also called the "Northern

capital"). The total population is 147.5 million people.

Three fourths live in the European part and one fourth

lives in the Asian part of Russia (Siberia and regions

located in the Far East). Most of these people areRussians (81%), with the other ethnic groups consisting

from Ukrainians, Tatars, Belorussians, Polish, Germans,

Jews, Caucasians. The language spoken is mostly

Russian.

History

The establishment of the first East Slavic states in the 9th century coincided

with the arrival of Varangians – the traders, warriors and settlers from the

Baltic Sea region. According to the Primary Chronicle, a Varangian from

Rus' people, named Rurik, was elected ruler of Novgorod in 862. In 882 his

successor, Oleg, ventured south and conquered Kiev; so the state of Kievan

Rus was founded.

In the 11th and 12th centuries, constant incursions by nomadic Turk tribes,

such as the Kipchaks and the Pechenegs, caused a massive migration of

Slavic populations to the safer, heavily forested regions of the north.

The age of feudalism and decentralization had come, marked by constant in-

fighting between members of the Rurik Dynasty that ruled Kievan Rus

collectively. Kiev's dominance waned.

The most powerful successor state to Kievan Rus was the Grand

Duchy of Moscow ("Moscovy" in the Western chronicles).

Led by Prince Dmitry Donskoy of Moscow and helped by the Russian

Orthodox Church, the united army of Russian principalities inflicted a

milestone defeat on the Mongol-Tatars in the Battle of Kulikovo in

1380.

100 years later, Ivan III finally threw off the control of the Golden

Horde, consolidated the whole of Central and Northern Rus under

Moscow's dominion, and was the first to take the title tzar. Russia

continued its territorial growth through the 16th and 17th centuries.

Russia was proclaimed an Empire in 1721 and became

recognized as a world power during the rule of Peter the

Great. Catherine II (the Great), who ruled in 1762–96,

presided over the Age of Russian Enlightenment. She

extended Russian political control over the Polish-

Lithuanian Commonwealth. In the south, after successfulRusso-Turkish Wars against the Ottoman Empire,

Catherine advanced Russia's boundary to the Black Sea,

defeating the Crimean Khanate.

Russia fought against Napoleon's France. The French

invasion of Russia at the height of Napoleon's power in

1812 failed miserably as the obstinate

resistance in combination with the bitterly cold Russian winter

led to a disastrous defeat of the invaders.

Russia had expanded its territory and its power considerably

over the nineteenth century. Its borders extended toAfghanistan and China, and it had acquired extensive territory

on the Pacific coast.

In early 20th century, the First World War took place right on

Russia's western doorstep. Unprepared both militarily and

industrially, the country suffered demoralizing defeats, suffered

severe food shortages, and soon suffered an economic

collapse. By February of 1917, the workers

and soldiers had had enough. Riots broke out in St.

Petersburg, then called Petrograd, and the garrison there

mutinied. The February Revolution forced Nicholas II (the

last Russian Emperor) to abdicate; he and his family were

imprisoned and later executed in Irkutsk. Later, in October

1917 came the infamous October Revolution, led byBolshevik leader Vladimir Lenin, who overthrew the

Provisional Government and created the world’s first

socialist state.

During the period between two world wars there were

rapid economical and social changes. But millions of

people were sent to penal labor camps, including

many political convicts, and millions were deported and exiled to remote

areas of the Soviet Union.

Although its non-aggression pact with Germany (1939) served for a while to

forestall an attack by Hitler, the Soviets were caught by surprise with the

invasion of June 1941. By the end of the year, the Germans had seized

most of the Soviet territories in the west, surrounded St. Petersburg (having

been renamed once again as Leningrad), and advanced to within a few

hundred miles of Moscow. With tremendous effort, a Russian counter -

offensive pushed back the advance on the capital, but in the summer of

1942 the Germans launched a new invasion against the southern front in an

attempt to gain control of the rail center of Stalingrad on the Volga and the

vital Caucasus oil fields. Despite an overwhelming disadvantage in numbers

and inferior weaponry, the Russian army succeeded in holding out against

the enormous German army.

From 1985 onwards, the last Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev introduced

the policies of  glasnost  (openness) and  perestroika (restructuring) in an

attempt to modernize the country and make it more democratic. However,

this led to the rise of strong nationalist and separatist movements. The

USSR was dissolved into 15 post-Soviet states in December 1991.

Culture

Even though Russia is considered to be a mix of Europe and Asia, this

assumption is only based on geography. The reality is that, in terms of

culture, Russia has always been oriented towards the West and the recent

influx of western lifestyle has created subcultures similar to those found in

any other major country.

Travian News International / General Topics  11

8/4/2019 Com Magazine 2011 09

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/com-magazine-2011-09 12/43

Despite this diverse cultural influx, Russians managed to

retain a certain degree of intrinsic qualities of the national

character that you won't find anywhere else. Russian

culture is non-individualistic. The power of an individual in

Russia is much less than in the West and most deals are

pushed through family, friends and acquaintances.

The majority of Russians consider themselves to be

Christian, and belong to the Russian Orthodox Church.

People usually attend the church just to "light a candle"

and quickly pray. They do it to ask for something good to

happen (a business deal, an exam) or to remember a

close person who has passed. People do not have to be a

member of the Church in order to do this and they do not have

to pay monthly contributions to the Church. The Russian

Church survives selling candles and reminder notes and

charging for services such as baptizing, weddings and

funerals. A Church officiated marriage is not considered legally

official in Russia.

Having a university or college degree is common in Russia; the

country has the highest educational level in the world (more

than 40% of the total population has a college or university

level degree). Therefore, it's common for a person having an

engineering degree and working in sales, or one with a

chemical background to find himself in marketing.

Generally, Russians love their country. They can criticize

it severely, but if you try to do the same they will defend it

furiously. They feel like citizens of the largest county in

the world, which has a rich history and deep cultural roots,

and they are proud of it.

Russian holidays

The biggest Russian holiday is New Years (1 January). During the Soviet

era, people were not allowed to celebrate Christmas (Russian Christmas

falls on the 7th of January), and New Years was the most cheerful holiday.

The next holiday is the Old New Year (13 January). Russians had a different

calendar before February 1918. The difference between Julian (the old

Russian) and Gregorian (European) calendars was 13 days, and after the

Soviet government adopted the Gregorian calendar, Russians started to

celebrate some holidays twice: according to the new style and the old one.

Though non-official, "The Man's Day" falls on February 23, and it is a public

holiday called "The Homeland Defender's Day". All men in Russia are liable

for call-up (including reservists), so they all are celebrities in a certain way.

On this day women usually give men small gifts.

The official "Women's Day" is observed on the 8 th of March. On this day

men give women gifts, usually flowers. Men are also supposed to do all the

housework.

The 1st of May is the Day of Labor. During Soviet time, there were huge

demonstrations on this day, as everybody was obliged to show their loyalty

to the state; now only communists organize meetings on this date.

9th of May - Victory Day. This is a 2 day public holiday (8 -9 May), the day

when Nazi Germany capitulated in 1945 after a 4 year long war with the

Soviet Union and other countries. The Soviet Union lost 20 million people to

this war. The minute of silence is regularly announced on the Central TV in

memory of the deceased at 9:00 P.M., and fireworks ensue thereafter.

The 1st of September is the Day of Knowledge – it marks

the beginning of a new school year. Children go to schools

with flowers for their teachers, and there are various

meetings held before the classes start - nice and exciting.

12th of December - The Constitution Day. On this day, the

first ever Constitution of the Russian Federation was

adopted in 1993 (previous Constitutions were all Soviet

Union's). It is a recent public holiday, and there are no

special customs connected with this day.

Russians love celebrating. They adopted numerous Western

holidays such as St. Valentine’s, Catholic Christmas (they

celebrate Christmas twice - Catholic and Orthodox) and

Halloween. They also appreciate the Chinese New Year,

Muslim and Jewish holidays, as Russians are very tolerant

when it comes to other religions.

There are quite a few long weekends every year, which many

Russians use to travel, locally and abroad, while others spend

holidays on their "dachas" (country-side houses).

Avast Ye, landlubbers!

Arrr! ‘Tis International Talk Like a Pirate Day in this month of September, so

ye best be talkin’ like us pirates, lest we introduce you to Davy Jones! So, I take it you’ve gathered from my little display there that this month we’re

writing about the International Talk Like a Pirate Day. Wow – that’s one long

name, so I’m going to refrain from having to type it out again and, instead,

refer to it as ITLAPD. Actually, no… That seems like kind of a tongue twister.

Maybe just Pirate Day? In any case, regardless of how we dub it for the sake of making my life

slightly easier, ITLAPD is a parodic holiday coined rather recently (in 1995)

by John Bauer and Mark Summers, alternatively known by their aliases, Ol’

Chumbucket and Cap’n Slappy. Rather unilaterally, they proclaimed

September 19th to be the day when everyone in the world should talk like a

pirate, to be observed on an annual basis. Generally speaking, this holiday

stems from the romanticized view of the Golden Age of Piracy; subsequently,

it became an accepted holiday to be observed by the members of the Church

of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

So how did this strange holiday come to be? Well, according to Summers, the day is the only holiday to come into being as

a result of a sports injury. He has stated that during a racquetball game

between Summers and Baur, one of them reacted to the pain with an outburst

of "Aaarrr!", and the idea was born. That game took place on June 6, 1995,

but out of respect for the observance of  D-Day, they chose Summers' ex-

wife's birthday, as it would be easy for him to remember. At first an inside joke between two friends, the holiday gained exposure when

John Baur and Mark Summers sent a letter about their invented holiday to the

American syndicated humor  columnist Dave Barry in 2002. Barry liked the

idea and promoted the day. Growing media coverage of the holiday after

Barry's column has ensured that this event is now celebrated internationally, and Baur and Summers now sell books and T -shirts on their website related

to the theme. Part of the success for the international spread of the holiday

has been attributed to non-restriction of the idea or trademarking, in effect

opening the holiday for creativity and "viral" growth.

Baur and Summers found new fame in the 2006 season

premiere episode of ABC's Wife Swap, first aired

September 18, 2006. They starred in the role of "a family

of pirates" along with Baur's wife, Tori. Baur also

appeared on the June 26, 2008 episode of  Jeopardy! ,

where he was introduced as a "writer and pirate from

Albany, Oregon."

The association of pirates with peg legs, parrots, and

treasure maps, popularized in Robert Louis Stevenson's

novel Treasure Island (1883), has had a significant

influence on parody pirate culture. Talk Like a Pirate

Day has been referenced in two songs from filk singer

Tom Smith - "Talk Like a Pirate Day" and "What? It'sCan(n)on." The latter references the fact that J. K.

Rowling set Hermione Granger's birthday on the same

day as "Talk Like a Pirate Day," and jokes about the

Hogwarts student trading in her wizarding education for

a piracy career.

By the time our magazine is published, the event will have already passed,

but maybe we can give you some ideas as to what to say in order to talk likea pirate next year. Let’s take a look at some of the more famous pirate lingo

and what it actually means:    Ahoy! Or Ahoy There! – It is the pirate’s version of  aloha and

basically means hi or hi there. It can also be used as goodbye, just like

its Hawaiian counterpart.   Avast! Avast Ye! – Originates from the Dutch term for ‘hold fast’ and

literally means ‘stop and pay attention’ .  To dance the Hempen Jig – Basically means to hang , since hanging

ropes were often made out of hemp.  Hempen Halter – The hangman’s noose.  To hornswaggle – This term means to defraud or to cheat someone

out of money and other belongings.

Jolly Roger  -   Believed to be from the French words for  pretty red , the

Jolly Roger is the pirate's fabric calling card, often including a skull andcrossbones. The Jolly Roger flag announces to your target that you are

pirates, and that surrender is a good idea.  Shiver me timbers! – This term expresses shock or disbelief, believed

to come from the sound of a ship when running aground or when being

hit by a cannon ball.  Landlubber  -   'Lubber' was an old English word for a big, slow, clumsy

person, and this term was aimed at those persons on ship who were

not very skilled or at ease with ship life, as if to say, "You were no better

on the land."  Davy Jones’s Locker – And variations thereof (to be in Davy’s grip, to

have the Davies) symbolizes death or fear of death (and sometimes,

fear in general). According to pirate legends, Davy Jones’s Locker was

the imaginary place at the ocean bottom that holds dead sailors and

pirates and is therefore used as a reference to death. Davy Jones was

said to be an evil spirit lurking at sea, waiting to escort dead sailors or

pirates to his place or locker at the bottom of the waters.

As for the very origin and history of piracy, we would

need to devote a lot more space to this topic if we were

to discuss it in depth. What’s interesting to know is that

piracy has been around for a very long time – basically,

ever since man first started using ships, namely for the

transportation of valuables or other goods which had

some sort of value and as such, could be used or sold.

The first pirates appeared in ancient times, scourging

the Mediterranean Sea. In fact, the earliest documented

instances of piracy are the exploits of the Sea Peoples

who threatened the Aegean and Mediterranean in the

13th century BC. These pirates were known to wield

cutlasses, a type of  sword common in that era. InClassical Antiquity, the Illyrians and Tyrrhenians were

known as pirates, as well as some Greeks and Romans.

During their voyages the Phoenicians seem to have

sometimes resorted to piracy, and specialized in

kidnapping boys and girls to be sold as slaves.

Travian News International / General Topics  19

8/4/2019 Com Magazine 2011 09

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/com-magazine-2011-09 20/43

In the 3rd century BC, pirate attacks on Olympos (city in Anatolia) brought

impoverishment. Among some of the most famous ancient pirateeringpeoples were exactly the Illyrians, populating the western Balkan Peninsula.

Constantly raiding the Adriatic Sea, the Illyrians caused many conflicts with

the Roman Republic. It was not until 168 BC when the Romans finally

conquered Illyria, making it a province that ended their threat.

As for later times, the most widely known and far reaching pirates in medieval

Europe were the Vikings, warriors and looters from Scandinavia who raided

mainly between 793 to 1066, during the Viking Age in the Early Middle Ages.

They raided the coasts, rivers and inland cities of all Western Europe as far

as Seville, attacked by the Norse in 844. Vikings even attacked coasts of

North Africa and Italy. They also plundered all the coasts of the Baltic Sea,

ascending the rivers of Eastern Europe as far as the Black Sea and Persia.

The lack of centralized powers all over Europe during the Middle Ages

favored pirates all over the continent.

It is then logical to assume that piracy was also common in other parts of the

world, including Japan, India and China and, especially in later times, piracyflourished in North America and South America, especially during the period

of colonization, when valuable goods were often transported via cargo ships

from America to Europe. In fact, ocean piracy in North America continues

even as late as the 1870s. In geographic terms of America, river piracy was

also common, specifically when it came to the Mississippi and Ohio rivers.

Most of the famous pirates we know and can often see depicted in various

artistic works (songs, movies, TV shows, video games, books) lived and

operated their pirate vessels during the so called Golden Age of Piracy, which

lasted from around the 1650s till the 1730s. The most famous pirates of this

time were the infamous Edward Teach, commonly known as Blackbeard,

Black Bart AKA Bartholomew Roberts (known for his immense wealth whichhe gained through piracy; he is commonly considered to be the most

successful pirate of all times), Edward Low (notorious for his sadistic ways

when dispensing of his victims) to name a few. If you’re thinking that piracy

was a man-only thing, well – you’re wrong. Women also entered piracy,

though they commonly had to disguise themselves as men. The two best

known female pirates were Anne Bonny and Mary Reid.

If you’re thinking piracy is extinct by now, I will have to

disappoint you; of course, the type of pirates we imagine

or see on the big screen are long gone, but piracy still

exists and is a rather big problem on today’s seas.

Please note that by speaking of piracy in the

contemporary sense we are not at all referring to illegal

software distribution or copyright infringements. Pirates

are still at large just as they once were, particularly in

the waters between the Red Sea and Indian Ocean, off

the Somali coast and in the Strait of Malacca and

Singapore. Modern pirates favor small boats and taking advantage

of the small number of crew members on modern cargovessels. They also use large vessels to supply the

smaller attack/boarding vessels. Modern pirates can be

successful because a large amount of international

commerce occurs via shipping. Major shipping routes

take cargo ships through narrow bodies of water (such

motorboats. Other active areas include the South China Sea and the Niger

Delta. As usage increases, many of these ships have to lower cruisingspeeds to allow for navigation and traffic control, making them prime targets

for piracy. Also, pirates often operate in regions of developing or struggling countries

with smaller navies and large trade routes. Pirates sometimes evade capture

by sailing into waters controlled by their pursuer's enemies. With the end of

the Cold War, navies have decreased size and patrol, and trade has

increased, making organized piracy far easier. Modern pirates are sometimes

linked with organized-crime syndicates, but often are parts of small individual

groups. The International Maritime Bureau (IMB) maintains statistics regarding pirateattacks dating back to 1995. Their records indicate hostage-taking

overwhelmingly dominates the types of violence against seafarers. For

example in 2006, there were 239 attacks, 77 crew members were kidnapped

and 188 taken hostage but only 15 of the pirate attacks resulted in murder. In

2007 the attacks rose by 10% to 263 attacks. There was a 35% increase on

reported attacks involving guns. Crew members that were injured numbered

64 compared to just 17 in 2006. That number does not include

hostages/0kidnapping where they were not injured.

However, these are certainly not the pirates referenced with the International

Talk Like a Pirate Day. Instead, we are dealing with popularized and (sadly for

some) largely fictional pirates. As mentioned before, pirates are a frequent

topic in fiction and are associated with certain stereotypical manners of

speaking and dress, some of them wholly fictional: "nearly all our notions of

their behavior come from the golden age of fictional piracy, which reached its

zenith in 1881 with the appearance of  Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure

Island." Some inventions of pirate culture such as "walking the plank" were

popularized by J. M. Barrie's novel, Peter Pan, where Captain Hook's pirates

helped define the fictional pirate archetype. Robert Newton's portrayal of Long

John Silver  in Disney's 1950 film adaptation of Treasure Island also helped

define the modern rendition of a pirate, including the stereotypical "pirate"

accent. Other influences include Sinbad the Sailor, and the recent Pirates of

the Caribbean films have helped kindle modern interest in piracy and have

performed well at the box office. More recently the 2011 season from

Japanese series Super Sentai,  Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger  has as theme

pirates, but not as a stereotype, but as adventurers seeking treasure and

defend others selflessly.

The fire burns in the valleys, the troops lay dying on the floor. The

demi-gods of Travian stare down on their vast burning landscape. The dice of faith has been cast. The server is

tipping away nicely. The fire has well and truly set. The 6 sided dice that once held the faith of 6 alliances can now be

chipped away and replaced with a 3 sided dice. The flames of Vex, =RW= and even Light have been all but been

blown out by the winds of time. Their place in this server is over it seems. Most are looking for their own chance at an

endgame victory by joining one of the 3 major powers. As always Ronin/SGR stands on the pinnacle, with Fat, Light

and even Union closing in on the top rankings.

The Triumvirate of this server is SGR/Ronin, F.A.T and Union. Their place in history is nearly complete, but only one

can win. Only one can be named winner of a server. Only One. The artifacts, as always, a great race of passion and

bravery and courage, have pitted armies and battalions against each alliance to seize the day and claim a treasured

idol. Indeed once seized some alliance were undone. They had not the force to hold onto them. Artifacts change

hands far too quickly. Below is a list of the current holders and the old count is in brackets.

VEX with 3 (7) small with (1) large

F.A.T with 17 (15) small with 15 (14) large

SGR with 23 (16) small with 13 (10) large

Union with 7 (12) small with 7 (10) large

=RW= with (1) small

Light with 2 (1) small

The alliance of Ronin and SGR is still holding strong. Can other alliances force their hand and break the backs of

their forces or could F.A.T and Union team show to have a real killer hand in this game.

As always the great Tiberius stands tall amongst his peers as king of the mountain of population. He still sits tall in

the attackers list but not anymore on the defenders. Arrigorn and KDBG both VEX members are first and second inthis listing. Thousands were lost on their walls defending these custodians, most likely at some stage artifact holders.

The story is unfolding, the tale is being spun. The keys to the WW are in reach. The towers of the Natars are ready to

fall. All that remains to be seen is who of the triumvirate is going to make the first move. Who is going to take

the giant leap? When the plans come into play this server will take another twist. An already twisting tale will

become a best seller for its readers. Total war is soon to come.

Not much has changed on com2. The battle hardened veterans are quite content. The player count is now nearly below 5000 with maybe

only 3500 really active. The rankings have not changed much either. MDS are still holding the 1, 2 combinations at the top of the tower.

Empire have decided a name change was in order and most likely merged forming SW. They seem to be a big force with 5 alliances in

the top 10. US have slightly dropped with only 6 alliances in the top 10, while a new meta has appeared in Eternal legion with 3 in the top

10. A lot of challengers are appearing now.

The Gaul leader Rei is still top of the pile with regards to population. Fourier of the alliance AEU is now the top attacker while

BeerPongWizards of the EL meta is standing tall amongst its defensive counterparts. The artifacts will surely spice this server up and

have been recently released. Will this change the fate of many or just a select few? What alliances will march forth with their gleaming

artifacts and overflowing treasure rooms? Who will bask in glory and who will be trying their entire alliance battalions to gain at least even

one?

This server, while a quiet enough one, is about ready to jump into the frying pan. The gods look down and are pondering what mischief can be plotted. Whom do the gods of Travian adore? Who has scorned and gotten the ill will? Gaining and holding the artifacts will test

even the strongest of alliances.

A new dawn arrives and another new server begins. Com4 welcomes the new players/gamers/elitists and all comers to a new Travian

game world. But this may not be the best place for noobs and/or those players who are still on a learning curve. It seems so early on the

best and brightest of not only of .com but other game worlds and servers have migrated across. With numerous worlds coming to a close

those left bewildered and barely with a village to care for have joined the mass exodus onto the New World. Evolution is the key. Com 4 is

the solution.

Already the alliances - not even 5 days into the game - are shooting up like skyscrapers. The top 5 each boast in excess of 30+ players

already. As always a heroes’ alliance has emerged, but more notable is the old core elite in the alliance DA. This is one of the more well

known alliances in the Travian world and in the inner sanctum that is the gaming community. Some wonder if this alliance is the keystone

of any world in that they have won the most servers. The forum is a buzz with comments. Apparently even before this server was started,

the NE was a locked quadrant with an already formed meta making its presence known - yet the name of this meta is so far left unknown.

Numerous players have started this rumor but so far this remains to be seen, but considering DA is NE based....Food for thought gamers.

MrCatfish again steps into the leader’s role, how many gamers will know this name? How many will come to fear and respect it? Let thedeletions begin.

It is early but we might as-well recognize what would be considered the elite gamers who jump the ranks. Axeman.. is the number one

player with regards to population, with Liweimingze a close second by a mere single pop score. Both players have yet to draw strings and

join an alliance. The top number 1 attacker is a player called AlienWare&KaZe, with Reza Irani as the number one defender. Early days,

but so far a lead is being established.

It seems this server may be destined for greatness. The struggle will not occur this early, but soon there will be the great movements that

will define this server. It is in its early stages but none the less, the gods have chosen this one to be something special! Time will tell

weather this server will erupt into an epic battle or a mere tiresome struggle. Who will come across as early leaders? Will this be the

wrong hand to show? Remember a lot of great alliances tend to stay quiet in the shadows for the f irst month? Will this server allow such a

poker face? Or will these alliances have to jump early to keep with the pack? Either way this server is nicely populated for an epic

gaming tale.

With every passing age, the epic tales of bygone years are sometimes forgotten. But yet the tales of s5 may live on. This server has the

fire and passion that all gamers adore and try to emulate. Each alliance attempts to engage in this epic tale.

Hellas with 13 small and 4 large.

Enola with 6 small and 5 large

Dacia with 25 small and 23 large.

**NW with 1 small

B-29 with 2 small

berserk with 1 small

A GAme with 1 small

Extreme with small

Tu-160 with small and 1 large.

Olcit MC with 1 small and 1 large

grid with 1 small

anti with 1 small

cyprus with 1 small

The individual holders:

Ira, man with no name and also Tompi have one, one and two artifacts respectfully and yet none of them have any affiliations to any

alliance. Is this a ploy? Or merely a player waiting to gain entry to one of the potential winners? With large artifacts one player outside of

alliances holds one such artifact is the Greek Tsoutsou.

As can be seen, this server is far from over with so many alliances and even individuals holding the keys to the endgame victory.

However, Dacia once again sore supreme in the hoarding of the ancient treasures. But yet hope for the others remain with Enola and

Hellas, and if the individuals band together they could hold a nice cup of entropy that could cause a stir. This is far from over, but

some warlords most be looking at their empty Treasury or bare rooms and considering their plight. The tower of the WW does not

solely rely on these trophies, but they do help.

The dawn of time on a new server sparked a rush towards the gates of entry. The tales of folklore are being spun all around this vast

landscape with its excess of 12,000 of the gaming community joining the fold. Less and less gamers are joining this server as a new dawn

has sparked on a nearby island of doom. Server 7 is already at war. Server 7 is destined for greatness. The Natarlands, while still

showing little action or movement, is the key to greatness. The alliances are yet to move in force in this direction but the migration towards

the central plains will occur; be it before the artifacts or very soon after is yet to be seen.

The SW stands virtually united. Void and GT have joined forced under the new banner of SWAT. The meta is born. While SWAT does not

boast great numbers in alliances, they however embody the old saying "Quality over Quantity", with the offer being the offensive arm of

the SW. The quad houses some other good alliances in NSky *FF* and KOTW. While NSky and FF can be considered hoards of players,

they none the less cannot be ignored. KOTW has brought its legendary leaders to the fore again with the defensive core elite arriving

home once more. Will they stand this time or will they fall again from within?

You cannot speak of the quad alone and ignore the alliance Wild. This alliance again seats itself highly with 4 alliances in the top 10.

These may be the holders of the NW quad, effectively locked down so early on. The NE is held by the alliance Red, a core of elite that

stand relatively quite thus far. IP has slowly risen up the ranks with its small member base but high quality of gamers; they remain yet to

be seen in the fore, but can ultimately challenge the others on their own.

The great Nolby Pride sits again on his throne, his population ever increasing. Yet his place on the top is under some assault, with 2

gamers creeping up on this king of raiders. Shadowwalker and soak of different alliances make up the top 3 of this server with regards to

population. Again, nolby sits on the attackers fore with an unsalable point score. Cuddlepie sits on the defenders fore and most have

taken some beating considering his points tally. One note to mention is that one of the leaders and elites of the SW meta stands 2nd in

Cleb-, this player took a beating and repelled all attackers from the Lords Meta. Only one t roop left to tell the tale of heroic ability of SWAT

and their fast moving defensive reach.

While this server may have stalled in growth, it does not lack in quality or indeed in activity. The alliances are not sitting and bathing in

their ideals or pretty villages, but are attempting to extend their arms and breach the strongholds that are slowly taking shape. This

is a server to be a part of. The tales will spin in the books of lore for years to come.

Server report was done by Elysium.

A server shrouded in mystery. The tales of yore spoke of betrayal, vanity, evil deeds that cannot be mentioned and yet now the stories have changed.

The misguided paths have been rectified. The alliances have found their rhythm. Their leaders stand tall to the testament of time. It is now long age

since the artis arrival. TBD and Equals have joined forces while Darwin and War have joined the other side. It is the final two. The old count is in

brackets:

Equals with 13(13) small and 11(14) Large.

DWarwin with 37(36) small and 23(19) Large.

The ravaging wars of a server can be seen all over the game world. The alliances are stripped down to two metas standing across the great divide.

Darwin and War combined to from dWARwin. The great and respected leaders of both Cupcakes and the amazing passive clown stand at their fore,

leaders among men. Indeed, the West stands entirely united behind these two demi -gods. TBD and equals stand at the other side, while not as

powerful due to arti stores, but they can still pack a punch. It is notable that in the WW race thus far, dWarwin holds 2 WW's. This is a good start and

may help create the early lead. Indeed, the supply villages around the center are a sight to behold. The Natars feel proud of their demise, looking at

the talent that has surrounded their once holy villages. The player and most notable member of com9 is vinti, who still holds 2 arti's, one small and onelarge.

The player of the server to date has been banned. His story may remain untold. His fate was in his care. The new leaders of pop on com9 are Hunky

Sissy and JoOoker. They stand close together and yet alliances apart. Vinti is still the number one attacker by a long shot and may take something

special to displace. Aga stands as the defensive leader and is of the equals alliance. The hero of the age is thus far the hero of 420Farm, whom is said

to reside "under your bed". This player is a dedicated follower of the passive regime.

Com9 is ready to show that the early leaders are not generally those that excel. Indeed, passive kept his alliance in the dark for much of the early

stages before making a running leap that excelled them into the glorious position that they have today. They stand but a few paces away from a victory

that they may or may not deserve. Equals also will have their say. Now all that remains to be seen is whether the test of loyalties keeps players

in check and if no one attempts to rock the boat. The end is near. The Natars’ majestic wonders and plans are about to be taken. Who will

win the race?

The end of another glorious server had occurred. The alliance and its followers of LIQ &Company have raised their wonder to the last brick

and have won this epic affair. As was said, the last piece in place was in the morning time at 07:59, the jigsaw of the WW tower finally

completed. The whole alliance can claim a share in the win as this was a group effort, where endless supplies of resources and troops were

needed. The WW belonged to a player called Evil Clowns.

The later stages saw that numerous alliances fell away from the race, while they had a personal store of artifacts. The fact that they had not

acquired a village belonging to a WW was proving fruitless in winning the game. Indeed, the alliance LIQ acquired 3 such villages with ABC 4,

W.A.R with 1, Hancer with 1, Mercs with 1 and TF with one. Only 3 WW's took any shape with ABC gaining level 38 and TF level 19. This

shows that Liq were outright winners of the race, but yet one cannot forget those that have passed by or those that contributed to an excellent

extravagance of gaming. Indeed, this server was a special setting of noble, proud and elite gamers.

A large number of players and even alliances slipped away in the dying stages of this server. It is however the end, so it will befit that weremember those that stood at the top of the rankings. The number 1 in regards to population count was Keson, in second was Doc.Moffel and

Pippi in 3rd. Take a bow as each of these impressive gamers exceeded 60 villages. The number 1 attackers at the end were the Natars; it

would have to have taken something special to beat their score. In a wonderful outing, the attackers ranked number 2 and 3 (respectively)

from LiQ and Dacia were BornToFight and noob Slayer. It is however no surprise that the number one defender is the person who raised the

WW banner above his village - Evil Clowns. The fact that his points outshine the next 3 players combined shows not only the skill of his

alliance in reinforcing this player, but also the bravery and never give up attitude of other alliances in attempting to breach the deepening

walls of his village.

The number one game village was named The Real Top Pop and owned by Wardog which had a final pop of 1505-

an incredible hub of activity. The stand out hero of the server was the veteran of Ancient Legacy named Croplock Dacia. Indeed, Liq had a fine outing and had the

talent and platter of great gamers at its core.

Congrats to Liq and all those associated with this noble alliance and congrats to all gamers who took part in this yet another epic

challenge.

Server report was done by Elysium.

The tournament server is always a place of epic battles and misfortunes. The ideals of most are the opinions of the few. No

one is getting into bed with another alliance, be it incase someone else looks the better option or as betrayal and that is rife

or simply this server offers a different viewpoint in that the winner will come from a sole alliance as sharing is not seen as

the best thing to be done. The alliances are ranging from a vast array of countries.

The top 5 alliances are Hamsters, ~AdB~, -P-36M-,Lisma-MK and Turk, while the pack sits and waits to pounce of the ranks. It is no surprise that on

our last visit the population leader was Pwent. Nothing has changed. The mighty Gaul warlord sits on his populace and ensures their utter obedience

and building proficiencies as if he was building himself a monument, a great pyramid to one day make others lament his passing and strike awe in

everyone’s heart. A new leader of war sits on the attacker’s board in the form of Night1ngGale. The defenders story is bleak for the Natars who are still

feeling the pinch as the core of gamers are relentless in the destruction of the tribes of Travian. In second place sits Fru -Fru and holds his hammer of

defense above him screaming for the bodies to fall.

The book of lore tells its own tale on the heroes of the tournament era. Night1ngGale and Stalkers are the two heroes that have peaked the 100 marklevel count. The artifacts may have changed slightly but yet no one holds the core. The server has no stand out alliance in the store of arti's. The tale is

still taking its time to be told.

While the championship seems to hold no place for friendship amongst the alliances, it is worth saying that this may change when the server reaches

the last stages as maybe this may help certain alliances take that extra step or indeed catapult themselves into a lead that will make all other alliances

jealous. Certain players are holding themselves above the pile as the elite and may label themselves as Travian greats. There is plenty of time left for

this to change.

The championship will evolve.

Welcome back everyone! In T4, we have a new revised hero system (whichalready covered in last month’s addition), but part of that is the all new auctionssystem for your hero. So this month we are going to cover auctions and explainthem. Ready for the break down? Here we go!

If you click the picture of your hero, it should bring you to the hero Attributes

page. This is the default landing point. Now, you should see a tab that says

“Auction(s)”. Click this and it will bring you to the auctions page:

The buttons I have boxed off are the filters. If you click one, it will only show that

type of item.

Now, there is also a shortcut to get to this page. If you look at the picture of your

hero, it should look like this:

If you click the plaque that looks like a gavel (boxed), it will bring you to

the same page.

Now, in order to participate in auctions, you need to have completed at least 10

adventures, and have silver.

Now, let’s explain how the auctions work: When you bid, it adds 1 silver to the previous price but stores your exact bid as

the highest, but it is not displayed. So for example, there is an auction going for

1 silver, you put there a bid of 10 silver. The price which everyone will see is 2.

But when someone comes and bids 3 silver, it is not enough to over -bid you, so

you get a message that you got outbid and the smallest price increases to 3.

Then you can bid, for example, 7 silver. Still he hasn’t overbid you, so he gets

the message: You got outbid, and the highest bid increases to 7. Then he puts

e.g. 15. His bid will be higher, you get your 10 silver back, the price increases to

11 (10+1) but it won’t show the highest bid of your enemy.

So, what that basically means is that when you go to enter a big on this page,

you’re entering what your MAXIMUM bid will be and not what the actual bid is.

Now, let’s show you how to do it. Go to the auctions page, and find an item

you’d like to bid on. I’m going to select a small pennant:

I will enter my max bid in the outlined text box, and then I will click “bid”. Now let’s say I want to track this bid. I will click the “bids” tab which will bring me

here:

1. How many people have bid on the item. 2. What the current bid is. 3. How long the auction has remaining. 4. Change your max bid.

As you can see, I only have one active bid, and no completed bids to display.

The filters work in the same way on this page as well. It shows specifically that

one item you’re interested in.

In case you get outbid, you will get something that looks like this:

If you notice on the very same auction as before, now 5 people have bid on the

item; the current bid is up to 567 silver, there are 4 minutes and 34 seconds

remaining on the bid, and I don’t have enough silver to bid again.

On all of these pages, you’ve seen:

In particular, notice the boxed section, which is 566/566. What this means is

[the amount of silver you have left to spend] / [your total silver]. This means Ican spend 566 silver out of a total of 566 silver. These are important numbers to

remember. With these you can also figure out how much silver you have

devoted to auctions, by simply subtracting your usable silver (left number) from

your total silver (right number). So, for example, let’s say I have 45674 /

77777777 silver and I want to know how much I have devoted to auctions. I

would do 77777777 – 45674 = 77732103. I have 77732103 silver devoted to

auctions.

Ok, now I’m going to show you the other possibility in auctions, which is getting

outbid. This happens when the amount of silver you put into the bid doesn’t beat

the highest bid.

So, I’m going to go back to my auctions screen:  And I’m going to place a bid on the 10X Tablet of Law that I have boxed. As you

can see, the current bid on the item is 11 silver. So that makes the minimal bid

12 silver. (FYI: The minimal bid is always one more silver than the current bid)

I’m going to bid 13 silver, and I get this screen:

I get a red message saying that I got outbid. Now if you’ll notice, the

current bid is 13 silver, and the minimal bid is 14 silver.

Ok, so let’s break it down even further, and explain how the system works.

When you place a bid on an item, you’re really placing the maximum amount

you are willing to bid. This is unlike a typical auction in that in a typical auction,

when you place a bid, you are raising the current bid, and your maximum

amount is where you simply stop bidding. Well, this has been automated into

the new T4 auctions system in that, when you give a maximum bid that

represents your stopping point, like where you stop bidding in a normal auction.

So as people add their maximum bids, the system slowly raises the current bid,

one per person who changes their maximum bid.

And when you get the error message saying that you got outbid, it’s because

your maximum bid amount isn’t high enough to beat the current highest bidder.

You win auctions by maintaining the highest bid.

When an item is put up for sell in the auctions, it remains there for 24hrs.

Highest bidder takes all.

Aha! I almost forgot. Selling items! If you go to your auctions page, you should

have a fresh row of tabs here:

If you click the sell tab, you will be brought to this page:

The top box represents your currently active auctions, and the lower

ones are completed auctions. The items in the middle are items that can be

sold. I currently have 11 bandages and a small map that I can sell. Pick what

you’d like to sell, and you’ll get a little pop up box to confirm the sell:

Click yes, and bam! The item is put up to bid. Now, during the 24hrs that it is

up, it should look like this:

And of course, if you have multiple items up for auction, you’ll have multipleitems for sell listed. The red “X” beside the auction will allow you to cancel it at

any time during the 24hrs. What items should I or should I not sell?

Believe it or not, this is actually a fairly often asked question. So let’s explain it.

Certain items are stronger than others (tier 1<tier 2<tier3). And generally, the

stronger the item, the more it sells for. So let’s say for instance, you happen to

get three helmets:  1x Helmet of Healing (+20 HP/day)  1x Helmet of the Consul (+800 Culture Points per day on 1x speed and

+400 on 3x speed Culture Points per day.)  1x Helmet of the Heavy Cavalry (Training time in Stable reduced by

20%) Each helmet is the strongest level (tier 3) for the respective effect. Now if you

decide you’re only going to keep one helmet (practical since you can only wear

one at a time), you have to decide which two are going to be sold. And this

depends on what direction your account is going. If you are using your hero

constantly and he’s taking a lot of damage, I would suggest the Helmet of

Healing. But if you wish to rapidly gain more villages, I would suggest the

Helmet of the Consul. And if you wish your cavalry were trained a bit faster,

then I would suggest the Helmet of the Heavy Cavalry.

Target NumberYou are presented with a target number along with six other smaller

numbers. You are supposed to use these six numbers and apply the five basic

mathematical operations (subtracting, adding, dividing, multiplying and

brackets) in order to get the target number or a number not too bigger or

smaller than the target number. The fi rst player who gets the number closest to

the target number wins 15 Gold.

NOTE: It does not matter if the number you get is higher or lower than the

target number; the one closest to it (or the target number itself) is the

winning number.

Example:

Target number: 929

Available numbers: 5, 1, 2, 6, 20, 50

Operations: +, -, *, /, ( )

Combine the numbers to get the target number. You may use the six

numbers only once. You do not have to use all of the offered numbers.

(1 + 20) * (50 – 6) – 5 = 21 * 44 + 5 = 924 + 5 = 929

The number 929 is actually the target number 929. Note that:

1.The solution given in this example is not necessarily the best possible

solution (though in this particular case, it is ^^).

2.The six numbers can be such that it is impossible to get the targeted number

by their combination.

So, remember: the objective is not necessarily to get the targeted number, but

to get a number as close to it as possible. If no identical number is

submitted to us, then the number closest to the target number wins.

ATTENTION: When submitting your result, please don’t just send us your final

solution. For obvious reasons, we also need the formula you used to get the

number. All of the formulas will be checked to see if they are

accurate and give the number you have submitted.

This month's target numbers:

TARGET NUMBER ONE:

Target number: 893

Available numbers: 1, 4, 6, 8, 10, 100

Operations: +, -, *, /, ( )

Combine the numbers to get the target number. You may use the six

numbers only once. You do not have to use all of the offered numbers.

TARGET NUMBER TWO:

Target number: 405

Available numbers: 4, 5, 6, 6, 20, 25

Operations: +, -, *, /, ( )

Combine the numbers to get the target number. You may use the six

numbers only once. You do not have to use all of the offered numbers.

TARGET NUMBER THREE:

Target number: 971

Available numbers: 1, 2, 2, 6, 10, 75

Operations: +, -, *, /, ( )

Combine the numbers to get the target number. You may use the six numbers

only once. You do not have to use all of the offered numbers.

Riddles We’ve also included several riddles in this issue; the first to solve one of

these riddles and email the correct answer to [email protected] will

receive a reward of 15 gold (per riddle).

EDITOR’S NOTE: When sending riddle answers, please pay attention to

whether the riddle (as a whole) has more than one part (such as a), b) and c),

or 1 and 2). Only complete riddles will be considered when choosing the

winner; this means that you cannot just submit one part of one riddle, but the

entire riddle with all answers, if there is more than one thing to be answered.

Thank you and good luck!

RIDDLE ONE: Riddle me this

1.  I am as large as this castle, yet lighter than air;

And just like a castle,

100 men and their horses could not move me anywhere.

Yet move I do and very often too,

And regularly I disappear, while I am shortest at noon.

What am I?

2.  Tear one off and scratch my head. What once was red is black

instead. What am I?

RIDDLE TWO: Find the word

There is a word hidden within the letters below; they have been mixed up in a

random order. The correct word uses all letters; the word can be anything, from

an adjective or adverb to a noun. Names (including places, people, countries,

etc) have not been used. Can you find the word?

1.  I-A-A-O-V-S-U-C-I-R

2.  T-E-A-I-L-M-L-B-M-L-E-Y-A-C

NOTE: If the correct word is not found, than the longest valid word will be

considered the winner. In order to be eligible, the word actually needs to exist

in the English language.

RIDDLE THREE: Conall and the tree

There once was a boy who lived in a small, peaceful Gaulic village, surrounded

by sparse woods. The village grew over the years, and the Gauls had cut down

most of the surrounding forest. However, one tree remained; the great oak

stood on the village rim for generations and no one would dare ever cut it

down.

When Conall was but six, his father measured his height and hammered a nail

into the oak tree’s trunk to mark it. Time passed, and eventually young Conall

left his village as a boy to travel the Gaulic lands and learn the art of warfare.

When he returned to his home village, he was 16. Conall remembered the old

oak and, with a smile, he went to see if the nail marking his height at age six

was still there. Lo and behold: it was still in place.

Now, assuming that the tree grew 5 centimeters each year (approximately 2

inches), how much higher would the nail be if 10 years had passed since

Conall’s father last measured his son’s height?

Last Month’s Riddles RIDDLE ONE: What am I? ANSWER&EXPLANATION:

1.  A map. 2.  A lawsuit.

RIDDLE TWO: Find the word ANSWER&EXPLANATION:

1.  ABBERATION 2.  CALAMITOUS
