NORMAL USE

This floor cleaner is designed forcleaning and caring for hard andelestic floor coverings in inside areas.The liquid level on the floor/ground tobe cleaned may not exceed 5 mm.

Note:This unit is suitable for commercialuse.

OPERATING DESCRIPTION OFTHE FLOOR CLEANER

* The BR VS 400/500 has two rotarybrooms rotating contrary to eachother (1)

* The cleaner can be movedforwards and backwards when inuse

* Work is carried out in a lateraldirection (large surface areacleaned) or in lanes

* Dirt is removed by the rollerbrushes and cleaning agent (2)

* Removed dirt must be cleaned upby a dry/wet vacuum cleaner

* Special rotary brushes (accessory)are used for polishing the floorcovering

FIRST INSTALLATION

Installing the pushing handle

Position the lower half of the pushinghandle vertically

Adjust the upper half of the pushinghandle and fix it with the knurledscrew

Note:Do not jam cable when fitting

Install rotary brushes

– Carefully lay the cleaner down– Always use two rotary brushes of

the same type

Place the rotary brush with gearingonto the drive

– Press the rotary brush down andplace it into the thrust bearing

– Install the second rotary brush asdescribed

– Check that the rotary brushes arein the correct position

– Position the cleaner vertically

Install the tank

Place the tank on the cleaner

OPERATION

Fill the tank

Note:Observe the dosingrecommendations of the cleaningagent's manufacturer and mix thecleaning agent solution thoroughly.

Take care when handling cleaningagents!* Comply with the safety

recommendations of the cleaningagent's manufacturer

* Rinse splashes in eyes or on theskin out or off with plenty of cleanwater

* Call a doctor immediately* Wash contaminated clothing with

water

Open the cap

Fill the tank with the required amountof fresh water

Note:The maximum water temperaturemust be 50 °C.

– Place the tank onto the cleaner– Check that the tank is positioned

correctly

Fill the tank with the required amountof cleaning agent

– Close the catch– Use a cloth to wipe away excess

liquid that pours out– Mix the cleaning agent well

Fitting the plug

Connect the plug to the power cable

– Hang the power cable in the strain-reliever

– Plug the cable into the powersocket

Adjusting the splash shield

– Undo the fastening screw

– Set the splash guard according toeach application.

– Tighten fastening screw.

Note:Adjust the splash guard parallel to thefloor

Turning the pushing handle

– Press the pushing handledownwards and turn to the LEFT orRIGHT

– Release strain on the pushinghandle and turn, it locks in severalpositions

Releasing/locking the pushinghandle

Pull the catch upwards and hold

Tip the pushing handle backwards

Tip the pushing handle forwards;* The catch locks automatically

Starting/stopping the rotarybrushes

Pull the lower lever;* Rotary brush drive ON

Release the lower lever;* Rotary brush drive OFF

Measuring out the cleaning agent

Press the upper lever;* Cleaning agent feed ON,

indicator light is on and green(see arrow)

Release the upper lever;* Cleaning agent feed OFF

Steering machine

Turn the pushing handle to the LEFT* Cleaner moves to the LEFTTurn the pushing handle to theRIGHT* Cleaner moves to the RIGHT.

Changing the rotary brushes

– Remove the tank– Carefully lay the cleaner down– Always refit two rotary brushes of

the same type

Press down and suspend the rotarybrushes

Remove the rotary brushes from thegearing

– Lay down the rotary brush on thedrive side (gearing)

– Dismantle the second rotary brushas described

Fit on a new rotary brush with thegearing located on the drive

– Press the rotary brush down andplace it into the thrust bearing

– Install the second new rotary brushas described

– Check that the rotary brushes arein the correct position

– Position the cleaner vertically

EACH TIME BEFORE OPERATION

– Check the cleaner and especiallythe power cable for damage

– Checked the rotary brushes for thepresence of foreign objects

– Fit the rotary brush that is suitablefor the job

– If necessary top up the cleaningagent solution in the tank

– Connect the plug to the powercable

– Hang the strain-reliever– Plug the cable into the power

socket– Check that there are no obstacles

in the area to be cleaned* See the Operation Chapter for the

Do not start an unfilled appliance ondelicate floors!Prior to start-up, tilt unit, activatecleaning agent supply and switch ondrive unit for brush rollers.

Pull the catch upwards and hold

– Move the cleaner to the LEFT andRIGHT by turning the pushinghandle

– At the same time go backwardsslowly

– Press the top switch-stirrup asrequired, the cleaning agentsolution is fed to the rotary brooms

Working in lanes

Press the pushing handle downwardsand turn to the LEFT or RIGHT

Pull the catch upwards and holdTip the pushing handle backwards

Pull the lower lever;* Rotary brush drive ON

– Move the appliance slowlybackwards or forwards in longsweeping movements

– Press the top switch-stirrup asrequired, the cleaning agentsolution is fed to the rotary brooms

Switching off the cleaner

Release both levers

– Tip the pushing handle forwards;* The catch locks automatically– When necessary push the pushing

handles down and turn back to theinitial position

Note:Do not leave the cleaner on the rotarybrushes

Instructions for use

Prior to using the appliance ondelicate surfaces (PVC, carpets)– tilt it– Switch the cleaning agent feed on– Do not operate it until the machine

has been filled with cleaning agent.

Note:The cleaning agent feed is effectedonly if the brush drive is switched on.

Scrubbing

* Remove loose dirt by brushingbefore working with the cleaner

* Match the amount of cleaningagent solution on the floor coveringto the level of dirt

* Select rotary brushes suitable forthe dirt and floor covering

Polishing

* Polishing is carried out withoutusing liquid

* The brush well must be as dry aspossible before the pad is fitted

EACH TIME AFTER USAGE

Pull out the plug

– Pull the power cable out of thesocket

– Disconnect the plug from the powercable

Remove the strain-reliever

Emptying the tank

Remove the tank, empty and rinsewith water

Note:Dispose of the cleaning agentsolution in accordance with therelevant regulations.Heed the instructions of the cleaningagent's manufacturer.

Switching off the cleaner

Release the pushing handles and tipforwards

Lift the appliance

Engage the safety device

Position the cleaner vertically

Note:Do not leave the cleaner on the rotarybrushes

Dismantle the rotary brushes

Note:If the machine is not positionedvertically the rotary brushes must bedismantled

– Remove the tank– Carefully lay the cleaner down

Press down and suspend the rotarybrushes

Remove the rotary brushes from thegearing

TRANSPORTATION

Note:Movement on rollers in inside areasand on smooth floors is notproblematic.Take care when moving on non-smooth floors and in outside areas.

Warning!Danger of injury by falling downequipment!

CLEANING AND CARE

– Only use a damp cloth for cleaningthe cleaner

– Wipe afterwards with a clean, drycloth

– Do not use chemical cleaningagents

PROTECTION FROM FREEZING

– Store the cleaner in a roomprotected from freezing

– If there is a danger of freezingoperate the upper lever until nomore liquid flows

– Emptying the tank– Fill the tank with warm water

(max. 50 °C) before taking into use– Wait until any ice that may be in the

pump has been melted– Only operate the upper lever now

for measuring out liquid.

FAULT INDICATIONS

No or too little cleaning agentsolution on the floor– Fill the tank with the cleaning agent

solution– Check that the tank is firmly fitted

Unsatisfactory cleaning results– Replace worn rotary brooms– Check that the rotary broom or the

pads match the application onhand.

Rotary brushes do not turn– Remove jammed foreign bodies– The appliance is overloaded, the

overcurrent protection switchtriggered, allow it to cool down. Theappliance is operable again afterapprox. 30 s.

– Use rotary brushes suitable for job

Mains circuit breaker triggerswhen the cleaner is switched on– Ensure adequate mains fuse

protection (16 A time-lag) or usestarting current limiter

– Switch off other consumers or useother power circuit.

Cleaner runs unevenly or vibratesheavily– Check the proper fit of the rotary

brooms– Exchange the right for the left hand

rotary broom and vice versa– Soak the rotary brooms in hot water

(approx. 80 °C) for approx. 15 min.
