Theair humidification takesplaceaccording to the self­regulating principle of cold evaporation. The appliancethereforegeneratesidealairhumidity,withouttheneedforadditionalcontrolunits.

A specially tuned anti­bacterial protection system (IonicSilverStick®)preventstheformationofgermsinthewaterofthebaseunit.Nochemicaladditivesarerequiredtokeepthewaterclean.

Use of fragrancesThe base contains a special fragrance container (25).Acotton ball soaked with fragrance can be placed in thiscontainer.Placefragrancesonlyinthecontainerprovided!Donotpourfragrancesinfragrancecontainerdirectly!Usewithcottonballonly.Wateradditives(e.g.essentialoils,fra­grances,waterconditioners)mustNOTbeusedinthetankoranywhereelse in theappliance!Evenasmallamountcandamage theplasticorcausecracks.Thematerial isnotsuitable for theuseofadditives.Onedrop isenoughto damage thewater tank and therefore render theunitunusable.Appliances that are damagedby additives areexcludedfromthewarranty.Thefragrancecontainerisalsousedasatoolforopeningtherotarylocksofthehumidify­ingdiscs.Tolearnmoreaboutremovingthediscs,refertosection«Cleaningthehumidifyingdiscs».

The setting for the relative humidityrangesfromaminimumof30%toamaximumof70%.COmeanscontinuoususe.Arelativehumidityofbetween40and60% is recommended.Aftera fewseconds, thedisplayautomaticallychangestoshowthecurrentvalue(CURRENT)(E).Uponreachingthedesiredrelativehumi­dity, the unit automatically switches off (display showsDESIREDandCURRENT)(E).Ifthedesiredrelativehumi­dityfalls,theapplianceautomaticallyswitchesonagain.

Water quality maintenanceAnIonicSilverStick©(26)keepsthewaterfreeofharmfulbacteria.The anti­microbial action of silver is used.TheIonicSilverStick releasessilver ions in thewateroveralong period (approx. one year). It‘s self­regulating andmaintenance­free. Look at picture 26 for the position ofthe ISS in the base part of the unit. Switch off the unitfirst. Q. Why isn’t there enough moisture in my room?A. Howoftendoyouruntheunit?Iftheunitisonlyrunat night,thenduringthedaythemoisturelevelwilldropif moistureisnotconstantlyaddedtotheair.

A.Do you leave your door open or closed when the unit is running?a. Byleavingthedooropen,thisallowsmoisturetoleave theroomandgointootherareasofthehouse.Ifyou wouldlikethemoisturetostaywithinonespecific

roomyoushouldconsiderclosingthedoorwhilethe unitisrunning.b. Wood,leather,carpet,curtains,andothertypesoffa­

bricsoakupalotofmoisture,thusnotleavingenoughmoisturefortheair.Ifthewindowisleftopen,thenthisallowsmoisturetoescapetheroom.Anotherfac­torisalotoftimestheunitisplacednexttoaheatingdevice.Theideaisthattheairblowingintotheroomwillquicklyplacemoisturearoundtheroom.Unfortu­nately,thisconceptdoesnotworkbecausethehotaircomingoutofaventwillsoakupmostofthemoisture,andnoneoftheairwithintheroomwillreceiveany.

Q.How much moisture do I need in my room?A. Suggestedhumiditylevelsarebetween40–60%.

Q.What are the effects of too little or too much humidity?A. Dryaircancausedryskin,staticelectricity,outoftune musicalinstruments,increasedlevelsofdust(dryair causesdusttorise),damagetowoodenobjects(dry outandeventuallycracksappear),discomfort,sick­ ness,anddriesoutnasalmembranes. Over­humidifyingtheaircancausemoldandwallpaper topeel.

Q. Why do I need a humidifier when I can just open my window?

A. Themoisturelevelwithintheoutsideairisnothighenoughtohumidifyaroom.Thecoldertheairthelessmoistureitiscapabletohold,andthemoretheairisheatedupthepercentageofrelativehumidityislower.Relativehumiditymeanstheamountofwatervaporintheair,comparedtotheamounttheaircouldholdifitwastotallysaturated.Thedifferenceishigherbetweenoutsideandinsidetemperatures;morehumidificationisneededbecauseofthedryairintheroom.

Q.Where should I place my humidifier?A. Theunitshouldbefree­standingandnotclosetoa

wall,window,door,orthermalbridgesothatairmaycirculatearoundtheunit.

Q.If there is no water left in my water tank, for how many hours will the water in base last?

A.Anexactanswercannotbegivenforthisastherearemanyfactorsthatdependonhowlongthewaterwilllastfor.Italldependsonthesizeoftheroom,ifitis

verydry,amongotherthingstoknowhowquicklywa­terwillevaporateintotheair.Ifyounoticethatthereisnowaterleftinthewatertank,itisalwaysagoodideatorefillthetanktohaveextrawateravailable.

Q.I fill the water tank, and when I place it back on the unit all of the water goes into the base. Why is that?

A.Waterisneededinthebaseoftheunitfortheremovalofparticlesfromtheair,andforthehumidificationoftheair.Thefirsttimethetankisfilledupandplacedontheunit,allofthewaterwillgointothebaseoftheunit.Thewatertankactsasareserve,andmaybefil­ledupasecondtimetohaveextrawateravailable.

Q. If my unit runs dry is that ok?A.Ifthereisapossibilitythatyouwillbeunabletoadd

watertotheunitanditwillrundry,turntheunitoffbeforeyouleave.Theunitwillnotbeabletoremoveparticlesfromtheairifthereisnowater,andyoumaynoticeafoulodor.Exceptofthe2055Digitalthatusestheautomaticswitch­off.

Q. Cleaning light is flashingA. Switchofftheunitandunplugit.Emptythewaterin

thebase.Rinsethebasewithhot/cleanwater.Donotsubmergethemainbody!Visuallyinspectthebasefordirtormineralbuildup.Dependingonthewaterhard­nessdecalcifyingthewaterbaseapproximatelyevery4weekswithEZCalissuggested.Donotforgettoresetthecleanlightaftercleaningtheunitbyholdingdownbothhygrostatbuttonsuntilcleaningindicatordisappears.

Q. Is it ok to put my humidifying discs in the dish-washer?

A.ThemanufacturerofthisappliancedoesNOTrecom­mendit.Theplatescanonlybeplacedinadishwasherwherethetemperatureisnogreaterthan131°F/55ºC.Ifthetemperatureisanyhotterthanthis,theplateswillmelt.PlacetheplatesinasinkfilledwithwarmwaterandwhitevinegarorEZCalandeitherletthemsoakorspintheplatesinthissolution.Or,addwhitevinegarorEZCaltothewaterinthebaseoftheunitandlettheunitrunforanhourtocleantheplates.

Itisgoodtohavecalciumdepositsbuiltupontheplatesasitwillcapturemoreparticlesfromtheairandaddmoremoisturetotheair.

Q.The hygrometer on unit reads a different humidity level than external hygrometer

A. Notallhygrometersarecalibratedthesame,andmostareoffby+/­5%.Plusthehumiditylevelisnotthesameinthewholeroom.Theaircirculationandtemperaturearedifferentineverycorneroftheroomandmayaffectthehumiditylevel.Theunitshouldnotbeplacednearaheatventoraradiatorastheheatwillabsorballofthemoisture.

Q.Humidity level is not changing or does not reach the desired humidity level

A. Ifthewatertankneedsrefillingmorethanonceperday,theunitisworkingproperlyandtheclimaticcon­ditionintheroomhasaninfluenceonthehumidity.

Reasonsforlowhumiditylevel:

• aircirculationisveryhigh(airisfullyexchangedse­veraltimesperday–thehumidifierneedstostartsitsworkfromscratch)

• insulationofhome(seeaircirculation)• openspacewithhighceilings(notonlythefootageof

theroomcountsbutalsotheheight)–high­risebuil­dingsrequiremorehumidification.
