Bem-vindo 8 edio do Vodacom Mozambique Fashion Week. Este ano, um dos maiores eventos de moda em frica ser realizado de 7 a 15 de Dezembro.

Para alm do evento principal, o Vodacom MFW investe tambm para oferecer oportunidades aos novos talentos da moda e da msica em Moambique.

MFW SCHOOLO MFW School parte integrante da 8 edio do Mozambique Fashion Week. Trata-se de um concurso direccionado para as escolas e universidades de Maputo, cujo principal objectivo a descoberta de novos talentos na rea do design de moda, intercmbio de experincias e aprendizagem tcnico-profissional dos participantes. A equipa vencedora ver a sua coleco a desfilar no desfile dos Young Designers do Vodacom MFW de Dezembro.

MOZAMBEATO Mozambeat o concurso para DJs do Mozambique Fashion Week 2012. O seu objectivo apresentar mais uma vertente cultural deste evento que cada vez mais uma amostra do que melhor se faz no pas em diversas reas culturais. Este ano desafiamos os DJs de Moambique a criarem msicas, ritmos, misturando o afro com os beats internacionais e, assim, fazer uma fuso de sons que daro brilho s coleces dos estilistas do MFW. O resultado sair num CD de edio limitada.

Welcome to the 8th edition of Vodacom Mozambique Fashion Week. This

year, one of the biggest fashion events in Africa will be held from 7-15

December.

In addition to the main event, the Vodacom MFW also invests in

providingopportunities for new talent in the fashion and music industries

in Mozambique. This is done through the MFW School and MFW

Mozambeat.

MFW SCHOOLThe MFW School is a competition aimed at schools and Universities

in Maputo. The main objective is to unearth new talents in the field of fashion design, and the exchange of learning experiences between

technical and professional participants. The winner of this competition

will showcase their collection at the Young Designers Vodacom MFW

event.

MOZAMBEATThe Mozambeatis a contest for DJs at the MozambiqueFashionWeek 2012.

Its main purpose is to bring into play another aspect to this cultural event

the music. This year we challenged the DJs from Mozambique to create

songs and rhythms, mixing them with African and International beats

to make a fusion of sounds. These sounds will be used for background

music for the shows at the MFW. They will be then compiled onto a limited

edition CD.

DESFILE ESTABELECIDOSSo aqueles que, ano aps ano, j deram provas do seu mrito na rea da moda. O seu trabalho garante consistncia na qualidade, tanto a nvel nacional como internacional. Para estes profissionais, o Vodacom MFW um dos momentos mais importantes para exporem as suas coleces. PAN-AFRICANOAngola, Zimbabwe, frica do Sul, Tanznia, Etipia. Estes so apenas alguns dos pases que j trouxeram a sua moda at Moambique. Trata- se de um importante intercmbio de informao, j que so diferentes formas de ver a moda dentro do mesmo continente. Todos os anos h um esforo extra para trazer o mximo de nomes africanos possveis.

INTERNACIONALTal como o nome diz, os participantes deste desfile vm de alm fronteiras africanas. Portugal, Itlia, Brasil, quem sabe que outros nomes se juntaro a esta lista? O objectivo ter cada vez mais nomes internacionais no Vodacom MFW e promover o intercmbio cultural e profissional entre os diversos pases e continentes.

OS DESFILES THE FASHION SHOWS

YOUNG DESIGNERSThese are designers who are showing their work for the first time on the Mozambique Fashion Week catwalk. This gives them a platform to showcase their talent. Often their efforts are recognised and they may be given the opportunity to participate in other national fashion shows and international ones.

ESTABLISHED SHOWSThese are the veterans of the catwalk who, year after year, have proved their merit in the field of fashion. Their work ensures consistency in quality, both at a national and international level. For these professionals, the Vodacom MFW is one of the most important opportunities to present their collections.

PAN-AFRICANAngola, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Tanzania, Ethiopia. These are just a few countries that have already brought their fashion to Mozambique. This is an important exchange of information and outlook, given the fact that these are different ways of interpreting fashion within the same continent. Every year there is an additional effort to bring the largest possible participants from across Africa.

INTERNATIONALThis category holds participants that come from beyond the African borders. Portugal, Italy, Brazil, are just some of the countries that have participated so far. The purpose of having increasing international names at the Vodacom MFW is to promote cultural exchange and training among different countries and continents.

YOLANDA THOMAS

PAN AFRICAN DESIGNERS

Yolanda is a designer and creator of couture, focusing on clothing for women. She was born in Cape Town, South Africa but lives in Maputo. She is a freelance image consultant for several advertising agencies such as RGB and Golo. Yolanda owns the Design Buzz Company, which is engaged in the production of corporate uniforms, and has recently developed a range for the new airport projects and LAM - Mozambique Airlines. She first participated at the Mozambique Fashion Week in 2006.

Formou-se em 2005 em Artes Visuais pela UNAM - Universidade da Nambia, e tem como objectivo contribuir para o desenvolvimento de uma identidade de design de moda em seu pas. Actualmente professora na universidade onde se formou e est envolvida em vrios projectos comunitrios para o desenvolvimento de produtos e a criao de empregos.

Os seus desenhos so simples e elegantes, usando elementos da sua cultura. Suas marcas registadas so a ateno aos detalhes e a experimentao com materiais no convencionais.

Claasen e a sua marca, Kishwa, j participaram de diversos eventos na Nambia e no exterior, entre eles Arise African Fashion Week, Muoti Fashion Week e Fashion Business Angola.

CHAKIRRACLAASEN

Criadora da marca Zuvva, que significa sol em Shona, Joyce Nyasha Chimanye uma estilista do Zimbabwe.

Estudou na Cidade do Cabo, frica do Sul, e trabalhou para os trs principais fabricantes de vesturio em Harare antes de trabalhar por conta prpria.

Em 2002, Joyce co-fundou o programa Vana Vedu Foundation, que ajuda orfanatos por meio do fornecimento de alimentao, mensalidades escolares e uniformes, livros, aconselhamento de cuidados de sade e alojamento para rfos do HIV e crianas negligenciadas no municpio de Pfupajena, em Chegutu, a 104 km de Harare.

JOYCE NYASHACHIMANYE

NAMIBIA

Creator of the Zuvva brands, which means Sun in Shona, Joyce Nyasha Chimanye is a designer from Zimbabwe.

She studied in Cape Town, South Africa, and worked for three major garment manufacturers in Harare prior to working on her own.

In 2002, Joyce co-founded the Vana Vedu Foundation program that helps orphanages by providing food, paying for school tuitions and uniforms, books, counselling, health care and housing for HIV orphans and neglected children in the suburbs of Pfupajena in Chegutu, 104 km from Harare.

Graduated in 2005 on Visual Arts at UNAM - University of Namibia, her goal is to contribute to the development of fashion design identity in her country. She currently teaches at the University where she graduated. She is also involved in several community projects for product development and job creation.

Her designs are simple and elegant, using elements of her culture. Her trademarks are the attention to detail and experimentation with unconventional materials. Claasen and her brand Kishwa, have participated in several events in Angola, Namibia and abroad, among them Arise African Fashion Week, Muoti Fashion Week Fashion Business.

a criadora da AGLAM Couture, uma empresa de moda formada em Maio de 2002 quando a estilista comeou a desenhar e fazer jias tnicas para defender a cultura da Zmbia.

Com a ajuda de clientes de todas as etnias e origens, bem como casas de negcios, a empresa expandiu as suas razes e adicionou, em 2005, uma linha de roupas Israel. Esta linha j foi apresentada no Zambian Young Designers, Beauty Zambia Fashion Week e Media Afro Fashion Week, entre outros eventos.

A empresa tambm investe no treinamento de homens e mulheres em Jias tnicas e Design de Moda Bsico para permitir que os artistas expressem a cultura atravs da arte.

VERONICA SAMPA

O ps-graduado estilista o criador da marca Distinctive Man, responsvel por introduzir na frica do Sul uma nova viso em alfaiataria sob medida, permitindo que pessoas de todas as idades pudessem reflectir a personalidade atravs do que vestem.

A viso Nobukhosi Nkosi comeou a materializar-se em 2008 com o objectivo de permitir que os clientes fossem os prprios estilistas, escolhendo desde o corte at os botes.

Os fatos da Distinctive Man so elaborados no Malawi por alfaiates com mais de 15 anos de experincia, com materiais de alta qualidade obtidos localmente.

THABO MUKWEVHO

This post-graduate designer is the creator of the brand Distinctive Man, responsible for bringing a new tailoring vision for south african people of all ages to help them reflect their personalities through what they wear.

The vision of Nobukhosi Nkosi started to materialize in 2008, is aim was to allow customers to be their own stylists, enabling them to decide on aspects spanning from the cut to the buttons they will use.

The Distinctive Man suits are manufactured in Malawi by taylors with ver 15 years of experience, using high quality materials acquried locally.

Sampa is the creator of AGLAM Couture, a fashion company formed in May 2002 when the designer began designing and making jewellery to preserve the ethnic culture of Zambia. With the help of customers of all ethnicities and backgrounds, as well as businesses, the company diversified its tendencies, bringing about the new Israel clothing line. This line has already been presented at the ZambianYoung Designers, Media and Beauty Zambia Fashion Week and Afro Fashion Week, among other events.

The company also invests in training men and women in Ethnic Jewellery and basic Fashion Design to allow artists to express culture through art.

FRICA DO SULSOUTH AFRICA

ZMBIAZAMBIA

Aps completar seus estudos na Academia Sul-africana de Tecnologia de Roupas em 1995, trabalhou por seis anos e meio para o famoso estilista Errol Arendz em Cape Town. Durante este perodo, comeou a desenhar para clientes particulares, o que o levou a iniciar a sua prpria marca.

Dentro de um perodo relativamente curto na indstria da moda, Jacques foi capaz de alcanar o que poucos conseguem numa vida inteira. Algumas de suas realizaes incluem: finalista na ELLE Jovem Designer do Ano; participao na Semana de Moda da Cidade do Cabo; um dos cinco estilistas escolhidos para desenhar roupas para a abertura da boutique Cartier 1 na frica do Sul e capa das revistas Cosmopolitan ELLE, entre outras.

O estilista tambm colaborou, em 2008, no workshop de Deficincia e Desenvolvimento Empresarial (DWDE), ensinando mulheres carentes com deficincia algumas habilidades para a construo de vesturio.

JACQUES LAGRANGE

Tem 27 anos de idade, nasceu e cresceu no Qunia e vive em Nairobi. Em 2009 graduou-se Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, na Malsia, onde ele recebeu um prmio presidencial de excelncia por ser um dos melhores alunos de moda e design de retalho.

Depois de se formar, decidiu regressar ao Qunia e iniciar sua prpria marca, a Jamil Walji Couture, para atender as mulheres que possuem um estilo requintado e elegante. Suas criaes utilizam tecidos delicados e exclusivos e incluem projectos de noiva, noite, couture RTW e avant-garde.

Recentemente, venceu o Festival Africano de Moda e Artes (FAFA 2012).

JAMIL WALJI

Walji is a 27 year old graduate of the Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, Malaysia. He was born and grew up in Kenya and currently lives in Nairobi. During his studies he received a presidential award for excellence, having been one of the best students of fashion design and retail.

After graduating, he decided to return to Kenya and launch his own brand, Jamil Walji Couture for women who have an exquisite and elegant style. His creations use delicate and unique fabrics. His creations include bridal, evening, couture and RTW avant-garde. Walji recently, won at the Festival of African Fashion and Arts (FAFA 2012).

After completing his studies at the Academy of the South African Clothing Technology in 1995, he worked for six and a half years for the famous fashion designer Errol Arendz in Cape Town. During this period, he started designing for private clients, which led him to start his own brand.

Within a relatively short period in the fashion industry, Jacques was able to achieve what few can in a lifetime. Some of his accomplishments include: being a finalist at the ELLE Young Designer of the Year; participation on The Cape Town Fashion Week, being one of the five designers chosen to design clothes for the opening of the Cartier boutiquein South Africa, the cover of magazines such as the Cosmopolitan and ELLE, among others.

The designer also collaborated in the 2008 workshop of Disability and Business Development (DWDE), teaching women with disabilities who needed to learn some tayloring skills.

QUNIAKENYA

SOUTH AFRICASOUTH AFRICA

Especialista em produtos de couro e vesturio Maasai e criador da Fundao Ao Comunitria Sairiamu. O nome Sairiamu, nome artstico de Gabriel, significa algum que d com ambas as mos na lngua Maasai.

Ele tambm estabeleceu o Maasai Centro Cultural de Mulheres para capacitar economicamente as mulheres e divulgar a veia artstica tradicional para o mundo exterior, alm de promover a educao para crianas, especialmente as meninas, que so as mais propensas a serem vtimas de prticas culturais negativas.

Gabriel j participou de desfiles de moda na Tanznia, Angola, Qunia e ganhou vrios prmios na Swahili Fashion Week, incluindo Melhor Designer.

GABRIEL MOLLEL

Criada pelas irms Delfina, Beatriz e Lauretta Geraldo, a marca Geraldo Fashions actualmente uma das mais influentes de Angola.

Conhecida por suas vibrantes coleces para os pblico masculino e feminino, a marca decidiu focar a sua criatividade para construir uma reputao forte no estilos Resort e Pronto a vestir para as mulheres. Recentemente, dedicou-se tambm a vestidos de gala glamourosos.

Suas coleces so conhecidas por serem espontneas e extravagantes, com uma combinao de alfaiataria detalhada e variao de cores.

Alm das inmeras participaes em desfiles e prmios recebidos, a marca j vestiu celebridades angolanas como a Miss Angola 2012, Marcia Vahekeni, alm de Vnia Vilela, Tatiana Duro, entre outros.

GERALDO FASHIONS

Founded by sisters Delfina, and Lauretta Beatriz Geraldo, Geraldo Fashions is currently one of the most recognised brands in Angola.

Mollel is a specialist in leather products and Maasai clothing, founder of the community action group Sairiamu. Sairiamu, which is Mollels stage name, means the one who gives with both hands in the Maasai language.

He also established the Maasai Cultural Centre for Women. The Centre empowers women economically and disseminates the traditional artistic vein to the outside world. It also promotes education for children, especially girls, who are more likely to be victims of negative cultural practices.

Gabriel has participated in fashion shows in Tanzania, Angola, Kenya and won several awards in Swahili Fashion Week, including Best Designer.

Lopes is a portugueses fashion designer, born on the island of Madeira. She grew up in the city of Funchal. Unsatisfied with the type clothes sold in the city, she started designing her own clothes. In 1990, she moved to Lisbon in order to pursue a career as a designer. In Lisbon, with the help of a friend, they opened a shop called Versus, which sold international designer labels. In 1992, the stores name changed to Fatima Lopes and for the first time ever she took part on a fashion show as a designer. In 1994, she made her debut at the Salon du Prt--Porter Feminin in Paris. From 1999 onwards, she participates twice a year at the Paris Fashion Show.

In 2000, she drew large media attention by showcasing the most expensive bikini made of gold and diamonds, estimated in about one million Dollars, in the French capital; using herself as a model. She has won numerous awards in her career, among them, the Commander of the Order of Infante D. Henrique.

GIULIA TESORIERE Paola Frani

Born in Losanna, Italy, on the 21st of September, 1991, she demonstraded from a very early age an interest for visual arts, design, and fashion. All of those, passions which ultimately influenced her choice after graduating with honours from the Giuseppe Garibaldi Secondary School.

In 2009, she moved to Rome, and enrolled herself at the Accademia di Costume e di Moda. After completing three years of the course, she competed with 29 finalists and won the 22nd Concorso Nazionale Professione Moda Giovani Stilisti hosted by Riccione Moda Italia 2012. After the award, she was invited to go to Canada and Brazil, and now she will feature in the Vodacom MFW.

With a talent that emerged very early in life, she started designing womens clothes at the age of 3, after finding a book on the the moon colour dress. Already in primary school, she used to create styles for her classmates.

She was born and still lives in Italy the land of the Fellinis Dolce Vita, where she finds strong entrepreneurial traditions and a powerful cultural dynamics, in which art, culture, entertainment, and new trends merge.

Currently, her own brand is sold in many countries, including Italy, Japan, China, and Greece.

Nasceu em Lisboa, dez minutos depois da meia-noite, no dia primeiro de Janeiro de 1982. J no dia seguinte, a Beb do Ano era a manchete dos jornais. Filha de um fadista amador, cresceu a ouvir msica, interesse que se tornou um dos seus sonhos. Durante a adolescncia, cantou em bares de karaoke para manter a sua paixo sempre viva.

Com 19 anos, Andrea voltou a ser notcia, mas desta vez como uma das Pospstars portuguesas. Enrgica e criativa, sua outra grande paixo a fotografia.

Born in Lisbon, ten minutes past midnight, on the first of January 1982. Already on the next day, the Baby of the year hit the front pages of newspapers. Daughter of an amateur Fado singer, she grew up listening to music, an interest that became one of her dreams. During her teen years she sang in karaoke bars to keep her passion always alive.

At 19, Andrea hit the news again, but this time as one of the rising Portuguese Pop stars. Energetic and creative, her other passion is photography.

In early 2010, inspired by the passion for electronic music and by the trend of DJ duos, the two youngsters from Algarve, Portugal, Alain Viegas and Lus Tomaz founded The Double Trouble: a creative, innovative, and versatile duo, very acclaimed by the public. With training in Audio-visual, Multimedia, Advertisement & Marketing, the musical style they identify themselves with is pure house music, but also soulful, techno, house vocal, and tech-house.
