This season is all about color. Not just ANY color,but all colors. And lots of them worn together. One ofthe season’s biggest trends is “color blocking,” whichisn’t just limited to a Mondrian-style print, but it’s alsoabout wearing more than one bright color at a time.Most women are afraid of bright colors, either becausethey are worried that they won’t be figure flattering orthat they won’t be age appropriate. Some women dowear one bright color that complements their eye coloror skin tone, but many are afraid to wear more thanone. Work: The “color block” print This is the print mostassociated with “color blocking” that looks like a

Mondrian painting — literally, the look of graphiclines that create boxes on a garment. This does notneed to be unflattering at all, and while it mayseem like a tricky print to wear, it can actually workto flatter your figure. The cut of a style alwaysdictates how flattering the item will be when worn.Try a sheath dress where the waistline hits slightlyhigher than your natural waist, if you carry yourweight in your midsection. This print can create theappearance of a smaller waistline and a longerleg. In a relatively neutral color palette, this is anabsolutely appropriate trend for the workplace. Trya bright-colored shoe to add some fun, yet still beprofessional in this look.Weekend: Two solid colorsand a neutral Use color to your advantage. Colordraws the eye in first, so wear it on your bodywhere you want the eye to go. If you carry your

weight in your lower half, wear color on the top half ofyour body for the most flattering silhouette. Try twocolored tops: a layering piece like a T-shirt and abutton-down shirt/jacket as a completer piece, of equalbrightness and with the same undertone. They becomethe focus of the outfit and you can define a waistlinewith a neutral belt for added emphasis. Try a neutral-colored pant in a universally flattering cut, a mid-risestraight-leg trouser.Day to evening: All solid color Youcan be adventurous and wear color all over. You justwant to be careful in what proportion! When you arepetite, make sure to wear your colors in relatively equal

visual measure so thatyou don’t lookcompletely overwhelmedby one color. Also note,these are SOLID colors,not prints. While mixingprints is another bigtrend of the season, itisn’t one to mix WITHcolor blocking. Solidcolors still look cleanand geometric onpetites. Throwing in printson top of multiple colorscan look overwhelmingon a petite frame. Try atop with two contrastingcolors and a bottom, likea pair of shorts or acasual skirt, in one solidcolor. When you cut up asmall frame with color, you can help to define theshape of the body and call attention to it. Make surethe clothes aren’t too drapey and that they are tailoredto your body or we lose your shape entirely! Try addinga denim or neutral-colored jacket to keep the outfitfrom looking overly childlike. Pair shorts with wedgesandals this season for a look that can take you fromSaturday afternoon to Saturday night!
