Paraty Bay deserves the spotlight in this is-sue, as it is an anniversary one, as is the Ubatuba in review issue. this issue marks the first year of Paraty in review, but it is not time to celebrate yet, as we still have a lot more to tell about such a singular city as this.this year we tried to approach subjects such as the lo-cal culture, the artists of Paraty, the many events that stirred the city, as well as its beautiful nature. We talked about trindade, the royal road and even about the bot-tom of the sea. We were present at the best events of the city, such as flip (Para-ty’s international Literary Party), the Pinga (the local sugarcane liquor) festival and Paraty in focus (Para-ty’s photo festival).Paraty in review came to add its voice to the local scene and it has certainly achieved this goal, but we surely will have much more news in the year ahead. stay tuned!

a performance of high musical quality on the stages of Paraty, signaled the debut of Cláudio Bocah and trio, where he received the affection of the audience packed into the auditorium at Casa da Cultura.

accompanied by fabiano shumurani on bass, Cecel alves on guitar and gil on drums, Cláudio Bocah brought to the stage a vibrant repertoire of new songs and new arrangements of standards of mPB (Brazilian Popular music). and to wrap up the evening, there was the participation of special guest singer Luis Perequê.

Born in rio de Janeiro, Cláudio Bocah began his musical career participating in many talent shows and then everything took off from there. he formed the trio matriz of mPB, performing in many night clubs in the city. he worked as a stu-dio musician, recording back up vocals and assisting in the production of many records. for a few more years, he performed throughout Brazil as a vocalist in the line up of well-recognized performing artists such as ricardo feghali, roupa nova, maestro eduardo Lages, Cláudia telles, eduardo dussek, adriana, fagner, alcione, and Zé ramalho, among others.

When he moved to angra dos reis, Cláudio was praised by the local media for his show “alquimia trio”, which he presented at Casa da Cultura in two con-secutive years (2007 and 2008). he was also invited to the inauguration of the Casarão Cultural space of the Perfil show of the Band tv network and for the 1st and 2nd editions of the national encounter of mPB in the municipal theatre of angra dos reis.

in 2006, he received the 1st maestro gerard galloway award, performing songs by local songwriters in the X music and ecology festival of ilha grande and was among the three finalists in the ecology theme of the festival’s 2008 edition.

Currently, Cláudio Bocah lives with his wife heliane in Paraty, where he splits his time between his musical endeavors and the administration of the charming Pousa-da rosa Café, which was coincidentally built in the arts Portal district of Paraty and on the street named after the great singer and songwriter noel rosa.

Um show com muita qualidade musical marcou a estreia de Cláudio Bo-cah & Trio nos palcos de Paraty, onde recebeu todo carinho do público que lotou o auditório na Casa da Cultura.

Acompanhado dos músicos Fabiano Shumurani no baixo, Cecel Alves na guitarra e Gil na bateria, Cláudio Bocah levou para o palco um repertório vi-brante com músicas inéditas e novos arranjos para obras já consagradas da MPB. E para completar a noite, tivemos também a participação especial do cantor Luis Perequê.

Natural do Rio de Janeiro, Cláudio Bocah começou sua carreira de mú-sico participando de diversos festivais. Daí em diante, não parou mais. Formou o Trio Matiz de MPB, apresentando-se em várias casas noturnas da cidade. Trabalhou em estúdios gravando vocais e atuando como assistente na produção de Cds. Durante alguns anos, se apresentou pelos palcos do Brasil como vocalista, ao lado de artistas consagrados como Ricardo Feghali, Roupa Nova, Maestro Eduardo Lages, Cláudia Telles, Eduardo Dussek, Adria-na, Fagner, Alcione, Zé Ramalho, entre outros.

Passando a morar em Angra dos Reis, Cláudio conquistou o destaque de toda imprensa local com o espetáculo “Alquimia Trio” que apresentou na Casa de Cultura por dois anos consecutivos (2007 e 2008). Também foi convidado para inauguração do “Espaço Cultural do Casarão” do programa Perfil na Band e para a 1ª e 2ª edições do Encontro Nacional de MPB no Tea-tro Municipal de Angra dos Reis.

Em 2006, interpretando músicas de compositores da região, conquistou o 1º Prêmio Maestro Gerard Galloway no X Festival de Música e Ecologia da Ilha Grande e ficou entre os três finalistas do tema ecológico na edição de 2008.

Atualmente Cláudio Bocah mora com sua esposa Heliane em Paraty, onde divide seu tempo de músico com a administração da charmosa Pou-sada Rosa Café, que coincidentemente foi montada no bairro que leva o nome de PORTAL DAS ARTES e na rua que tem o nome do grande cantor e compositor NOEL ROSA.

O nome dele é Jorge Luis de Oliveira e sua pro-fissão é cabouqueiro. É ele quem cuida do calçamento de Paraty há seis anos. “Um calçamento único exige experiência e força, tem vida própria e quem não souber disso sofre para cuidar”. Explica Jorge.

Desde 1840 a família de Jorge trabalha com pedra, a tradição é passada de avô para neto “Quando o pai fala, o filho demora a ouvir. Já o avô leva a coisa na brincadeira e o moleque vai aprendendo sem reclamar. Tem sido assim na minha família”. Conta o conhecedor de pedras.

Jorge é mineiro, mas foi muito jovem para o Rio servir na brigada pára-quedista onde ficou por três anos. Como não bebia e nem fu-mava foi indicado para trabalhar como segurança de Ricardo Amaral na boate Hipopótamos. “Foi um período que conheci muita gente famosa, fiz segurança para Pelé, Ivo Pitanguy, os Monteiro de Car-valho, Marcondes Ferras e muitos outros. Fiquei 15 anos nessa vida até voltar a trabalhar com pedras, tradição de minha família”. Conta Jorge, com orgulho.

No currículo do cabouqueiro estão algumas obras importantes no Rio de Janeiro: O Real Gabinete Português (recuperou a fachada); Instituto de Educação na Rua Mariz de Barros (refez todo o trabalho em pedra); Casa França-Brasil na Praça 15 (recuperação total); Mos-teiro de Santo Bento no Largo da Carioca (recuperação); Academia Brasileira de Letras (refez todo calçamento) e também recuperou o calçamento da Catedral de Petrópolis.

Em Paraty refez a Praça do Chafariz, a Praça da Matriz, a Casa da Cultura e algumas ruas de Paraty Mirim.

his name is Jorge Luis de oliveira and his trade is known as cabouqueiro*. he has been in charge of Paraty’s cobblestone pavement for the last six years. “a unique pavement such as this requires strength and experience, it has its own life and if you don’t know this, you will suffer when taking care of it”, he explains.

since the 1840’s, Jorge’s family has worked with stones, in a tradition that has been

passed along from grandfather to grandson. “When the father talks, the son takes a long time

to listen. the grandfather, on the other hand, makes a game of it and the boy learns without

much complaining. that is how it has been in my family”, tells this stone connoisseur. Jorge is from minas gerais, but moved to rio as a young man to join the airborne Brigade,

where he served for three years. after leaving there, he met the requirement of not drinking or smoking and was hired to work as a bodyguard by nightclub owner ricardo amaral in his club hippopotamus. “i met a lot of famous people during that period. i did security duty for Pelé, ivo Pitanguy, the monteiro de Carvalho family, marcondes ferras and many others. i did that kind of work for 15 years before i went back to working with stones, my family’s tradition”, says Jorge with pride.

on his resume, the cabouqueiro boasts some important works in rio de Janeiro: the royal Portuguese Cabinet, where he recov-ered the façade; the institute of education on mariz de Barros street, where he redid all the stone work; the Brazil-france house on 15 of november square (full renovation); the saint Benedict monastery in Carioca square (rehabilitation); the Brazilian Letters academy (he redid all the pavement) as well as the pavement of the Petropolis Cathedral.

Os detalhes do trabalho realizado pelo ca-bouqueiro são mais do que especificações técnicas, são também cultura, tradição e, principalmente, história. Jorge explica que o calçamento de Paraty tem algumas caracte-rísticas que devem ser respeitadas, e conta a origem histórica dessa tradição. “O piso Pé de Moleque é chamado assim porque as crianças é que acomodavam as pedras com os pés. As pedras devem ser acomodadas na areia de forma que se ajustem naturalmente. Não se pode forçar o encaixe.”

Outro detalhe que Jorge esclarece é a in-clinação para o meio da rua. “A inclinação não era por causa dos dejetos que seriam jogados das casas, era sim, por causa dos animais que faziam as necessidades e elas corriam para a capristana (vala central da rua) que era a assepsia da cidade. Quem levava os dejetos para o mar eram os tigres, negros fortes e al-tos. Só podiam despeja-las quando as águas do mar chegavam ao peito. Só podiam despe-jar quando as águas do mar chegava ao peito.”

Jorge conhece bastante sobre pedras e suas características, para ele, é preciso en-tender como elas reagem ao tempo e como podem ser usadas para esfriar ou aquecer o ambiente. “Muita gente pensa que pedra não precisa de conservação. Experimente colo-car um pouco de argila numa pedra. No dia seguinte você vai notar como ela recupera as cores e a beleza.”

Recentemente Jorge sofreu um enfarto, mas se recuperou bem e depois de uma dieta imposta já está pronto para voltar às ruas. “Te-nho um problema sério: Adoro comer, como bastante e sem parar. Depois do susto estou maneirando.”

Os planos do cabouqueiro para 2012 in-cluem montar um site para divulgar as curio-sidades e explicações quanto a utilização de pedras. Conhecimento para isso ele tem, e de sobra.

Jorge explains that Paraty’s pavement has some characteristics that must be respected, and tells us the origins of these traditions: “ the Pé de moleque (“Brat’s foot”, as the small stone pavement char-acteristic of Paraty is known) pavement has this name because the stones used to be fitted by children with their feet. the stones must be placed in the sand in a way that allows them to settle naturally. you can’t force them to fit.” another detail Jorge clarifies for us is the sloping towards the center of the street. “this inclination wasn’t due to the sewage being dumped into the street from the houses, but rather because of the animals, who did indeed defecate and urinate in the street. their excretions would then run into the central ditch in the street, known as capistrana, which was the septic system of the city. those in charge of taking the domestic refuse away were called the “tigers”, strong black slaves who carried them to the sea. they were only allowed to dump them once the sea waters reached their chests.”

Jorge knows a lot about the stones and their characteristics. he thinks one needs to understand how they react to the passing of time and how they can be used to cool or heat the environment. “many people think stones don’t need conservation. try putting a little clay on a stone, and you will notice how in the next day it will have recovered its colors and beauty.”

Jorge recently had a heart attack, but he is recovering well and is ready to go back to the streets, albeit with a newly imposed diet. “i have a serious problem: i love eating. i eat a lot and all the time. But after this scare, i am becoming more moderate.”

the cabouqueiro’s plans for 2012 include setting up a website to publish curiosities and explanations about the uses of stones. he certainly has plenty of knowledge on the subject, and them some.

Paraty Bay is a heavenly place with a breathtaking land-scape. the scenery is set in a bay with many coves and inlets, with calm, emerald-green waters. the bay shelters numerous islands and beaches in its 180 km of shoreline, filled with inlets, peninsulas and capes. Because of its

shape, the bay doesn’t allow for the circulation of sea currents.in the places where the coastal range and the sea meet, there is, next to the water line, a strip of pebbles – stones that rolled down the mountains – rounded by the movement of the waves. the accumulation of those rocks creates dens that shelter many fish, crustaceans and mollusks. on the southern side of Paraty’s coast, between trindade and the historic Center, the mountains of the sea range end directly at the ocean. in this section, the sea bottom is made mostly of sand and the land is covered by atlantic rainforest vegetation.on the northern side, from the historic Center to the border with angra dos reis, there is a plain separating the sea from the moun-tains. in this section, the higher tides flood the plain, creating the conditions for the establishment of the typical vegetation of man-groves, characterized by shrubs of tall aerial roots and a muddy bottom, rich in shellfish and crabs.the winds define the temperature and clarity of the water: south and southwest winds cool the water and make it dirtier, while the winds from east and north clear it and warm it up. Because it is a closed bay, protected from the open ocean by many islands and peninsulas, boat outings are always pleasant and safe. in the municipality of Paraty alone, there are 55 islands, ten rock slabs with surfaces above the sea level and seven submersed ones, the latter ones being farther away from the coast.

A baía de Paraty é um lugar paradisíaco, com uma paisagem de tirar o folêgo. O cenário é uma baía bastante recortada. Com águas calmas e de um verde esmeralda. A baía abriga inúme-ras ilhas e praias. São aproximadamente 180 quilômetros, com diversas enseadas, penínsulas, pontas e ilhas. O forma-

to da baía impede a circulação de correntes marítimas.Nos locais onde a serra e o mar se encontram, existe, junto a linha d’água, uma faixa de seixos -pedras que rolaram das montanhas - com formas arredondadas devido a ação das ondas. O amontoamento des-sas pedras forma tocas onde moram e se escondem peixes, crustáceos e moluscos.Na parte sul do litoral paratiense, compreendida entre Trindade e o cen-tro histórico, as montanhas da Serra do Mar terminam diretamente no oceano. Nesse trecho o fundo do mar é formado, em sua maior parte, por areia e, a vegetação é a floresta da Mata Atlântica.Já na parte norte, compreendida entre o centro histórico e a divisa com Angra dos Reis, existe uma planície separando o mar das montanhas. Nes-se trecho, as marés mais altas invadem a planície, originando uma vege-tação típica de mangue, cujas principais características são os arbustos com raízes altas e o fundo lodoso, rico em mariscos e caranguejos.Os ventos definem a temperatura e a claridade da água: os ventos sul e su-doeste sujam e esfriam a água, enquanto os de leste e norte, esquentam e limpam a água. Por ser uma baía fechada, abrigada do mar aberto por várias ilhas e penínsulas, os passeios de barco são sempre agradáveis e seguros. Existem, apenas no município de Paraty, cinquenta e cinco ilhas, dez lajes cujas pontas estão acima do nível d’água e dezessete lajes sub-mersas e mais afastadas da costa.

Beyond all the technical information, the fact is that Paraty has a wonderful bay and the best way to know it is by boat, either on a schooner, a sailing boat or a motorboat. some prefer an outing with stops for diving to make it even more interesting, as it is an opportunity to contemplate the bay both from be-low and above the water.the more traditional boat excursions go to the closer islands and vermelha (red) and Lula (squid) Beaches. for those seeking more rustic scenery, a good option is to take a boat to Cajaíba Point and from there take the trails to the beaches of martim de sá and grande da deserta (great deserted). another excursion that shouldn’t be missed is the one to saco do mamanguá (maman-guá Cove), a sea extension of 8 kilometers into the continent forming a fiord, the only one in Brazil.of all the options, the schooner excursions are the most widely used and popu-lar. they last about five hours. they usually leave from the dock at around 10 or 11 in the morning and return at the end of the day, with stops on islands and beaches. the best schooners, such as the ones from the Caminante company, include services on board, toilets, and even live music. there is no lack of fun and it’s a good opportunity to meet and interact with new people.another interesting option for enjoying the natural beauty of Paraty Bay is Kontiki restaurant, located a few minutes from the historic center, in the small archipelago of duas irmãs (two sisters).the restaurant cuisine specializes in seafood, but its best feature really is the location, the privileged views, the peace and comfortable ambience. the main specialty is “Paella marinera”, a spanish rice-and-seafood dish.to get to Kontiki, the restaurant has a boat shuttle service available at the dock of Paraty, with many departure options. you may also reach the restau-rant on your own boat and dock it at the restaurant’s own pier. Informações técnicas a parte, o fato é que Paraty tem uma baía maravilhosa e para co-nhecer-la da melhor maneira, o ideal é fazer um passeio de barco, seja de escuna, veleiro ou lancha. Há quem prefira um passeio que inclua paradas para mergulho, o que é ainda mais interessante, afinal, é a possibilidade de contemplar a baía de Paraty, dentro e fora d'aguá.Os passeios de barcos mais tradicionais cir-culam pelas ilhas próximas e pelas praias Vermelha e da Lula. Para quem busca cená-rios mais rústicos, uma opção é ir de barco até a Ponta de Cajaíba e de lá seguir por tri-lhas para as praias de Martim de Sá e Grande da Deserta. Outro passeio imperdível é o que leva ao Saco do Mamanguá, um braço de mar

de oito quilômetros que avança no continen-te formando um fiorde (o único do Brasil).De todas as opções, sem dúvida os pas-seios de escuna são os mais populares e utilizados. Têm duração de aproxima-damente cinco horas. Partem do Cais na parte da manhã e voltam no final do dia. Geralmente, saem entre 10:00h e 11:00h e fazem algumas paradas em ilhas e praias. É encantador o fato de como, em cada esquina de Paraty, podemos nos deparar com algum artista em plena criação. Foi dessa forma que conheci o trabalho do artesão Hudson Conceição, um mineiro de Belo Horizonte que conheceu Paraty durante a Flip e não foi mais embora.

Hudson faz diversos bonecos utilizando apenas jornal, cola e tecido. Na maioria das vezes elementos do nosso folclore fazem parte da criação. Já faz 12 anos que ele trabalha com os bonecos, e conta que seu trabalho já está presente em 28 países.

A técnica utilizada na fabricação chama-se “cartapesta”, é a mesma uti-lizada na fabricação das famosas máscaras de carnaval, com a diferença que não utiliza a cola de farinha.

Ele ressalta a vantagem de usar essa tipo de material na fabricação, pois além de reciclar um material que iria para o lixo, reduzindo um resíduo, nenhuma árvore foi destruída para produzir seus bonecos, que depois de prontos, ganham vida e movimento. São todos pendurados em uma árvo-re, que ao sabor do vento proporcionam um verdadeiro balé, alegrando a vista de todos que passam por alí.

NeWSPAPer DollSit is fascinating how in every corner of Paraty we can find an art-

ist at work in the process of creating their pieces. this is how i came across the work of artisan hudson Conceição, a mineiro* from Belo horizonte who first came to Paraty during flip** and never left.

hudson makes many different dolls using only newspapers, glue and fabric. most of the time, the elements of our folklore are part of his creations.

he has been working with dolls for 12 years and tells us that his work has been shown in 28 countries.

the technique he uses in making his dolls is called “cartapesta”, which is the same one used to make the famous carnival masks, ex-cept that he doesn’t use wheat paste glue.

he highlights the advantages of his choice of material for making his pieces, because besides recycling material that would have been disposed of as trash, it doesn’t require the cutting of new trees to produce the dolls that gain life and motion when finished. they are then hung from a tree, creating a veritable ballet animated by the breeze and is a joyful sight to anyone to happens to be passing by.

hudson’s work is worth getting to know and he intends to stay in Paraty at least until march of 2012. he always shows his work at the square near the harbor’s dock.

the “Carbon Compensated” project, developed in the city of Paraty-rJ, was one of the four Brazilian finalists, among more than 300 participants in the young environmental ambas-sadors Program, sponsored by Bayer in partnership with the United nations environment Program (UneP).

thierry marcondes, an engineering student at UniCamP – state University of Campinas, started the project in January of 2010 www.preac.unicamp.br/lepac/projetos), while taking a class in environmental education taught by professor Carlos fernando salgueirosa de an-drade in the city of Paraty.

the “Carbon Compensated” project also complements a private initiative. for the past ten years a businessman from Paraty has planted close to 10,000 trees along the Br-101 highway. this project is called “arborization of the rio-santos highway” and has the goal of preventing brushfires.

marcondes began his work with internet research into the causes of the greenhouse ef-fect caused by human activities and how to minimize it through the planting of trees.

Programs available on the internet were used to calculate the emissions of Co2 according to estimates based on the greenhouse gas Protocol for sustainable development (WBCsd) and the World resources institute (Wri), and then turned the results into the number of trees needed to compensate for them.

With this tool an environmental education program was developed to raise the awareness of individuals and businesses about their Co2 emissions, collecting the data and making the calculation of the equivalent number of trees needed to compensate for the negative impacts they caused.

the first institution to manifest its interest was the secretary of environment of Paraty (sedUma), which quickly joined the project, planting trees. after that, other institutions also joined the project.

thanks to the “Carbon Compensated” project, the Laboratory of studies and research in arts and sciences of Paraty (LePaC/Unicamp), coordinated by the same professor fernando, now has its own calculation method, has created a seal, and is in the process of registering its trademark.

the businesses that join the project receive the “Carbon Compensated” seal referring to its actions to compensate for its Co2 emissions in the previous 12 months, which increases their exposure as sustainability-oriented businesses.

“Carbon Compensated” is now a fully developed program already reaping some results: according to data from the fire department of Paraty collected in July of 2011, the number of fires along the Br-101 highway has decreased nearly 59% in recent years.

O projeto “Carbono Compensado”, desenvol-vido na cidade de Paraty-RJ, foi um dos quatro finalistas no Brasil, que concorreu com mais de 300 participantes no Programa Jovens Em-baixadores Ambientais, realizado pela Bayer e tendo como parceiro o Programa das Nações Unidas para o Meio Ambiente (PNUMA).

Thierry Marcondes, estudante de enge-nharia da UNICAMP – Universidade Estadual de Campinas, deu início ao projeto em Janeiro de 2010 (www.preac.unicamp.br/lepac/pro-jetos), cursando uma disciplina de Educação Ambiental ministrada na cidade de Paraty – RJ e coordenada pelo Professor Carlos Fernando Salgueirosa de Andrade.

O “Carbono Compensado” veio comple-mentar uma iniciativa individual. Ao longo de 10 anos, um empresário de Paraty já plantou cerca de 10.000 árvores na Rodovia, projeto este denominado “Arborização da Rodovia Rio-

-Santos”, cujo objetivo é evitar as queimadas.O Estudante começou seu trabalho pesqui-

sando na internet as causas do efeito estufa geradas pelas atividades humanas e como minimiza-las através do plantio de árvores.

De acordo com estimativas baseadas no The Greenhouse Gás Protocol for Sustaineble Development (WBCSD) e World Resources Institute (WRI), foram utilizados programas disponíveis na web que calculam as emissões de CO2, transformando-os em números de ár-vores.

Com esta ferramenta trabalhamos a Educa-ção Ambiental, conscientizando pessoas e os responsáveis pelas atividades empresariais sobre suas emissões de CO2, coletando infor-mações e realizando o cálculo equivalente as árvores para sua compensação.

A primeira instituição a se manifestar foi a Secretaria de Meio Ambiente de Paraty (SEDU-

MA), que logo fez sua adesão ao projeto, plan-tando suas árvores. Na sequência, outros esta-belecimentos começaram a aderir ao projeto.

Graças ao Projeto “Carbono Compensado”, o Laboratório de Estudos e Pesquisas em Artes e Ciências de Paraty – LEPAC – Unicamp, coor-denado pelo próprio Prof. Fernando, já tem seu próprio método de cálculo, criou um selo e está registrando sua marca.

As empresas que aderem ao projeto, rece-bem o selo “Carbono Compensado” referente as suas compensações de CO2 dos últimos 12 meses, dando visibilidade ao seu estabe-lecimento, seguindo a linha da sustentabili-dade.

Agora o programa “Carbono Compensado” já colhe seus resultados: Segundo dados do Corpo de Bombeiros de Paraty, obtidos em Ju-lho de 2011, o número de queimadas na rodo-via caiu cerca de 59% nos últimos anos.

the new venue espaço Cultural eletro-nuclear has been inaugurated in Paraty. the new space will be operating in the newly inaugurated headquarters of the silo Cultural institute, which will also feature the margaret mee hall. all three venues are located on dr. samuel Costa street, or Beach street, in the Center of Paraty.

espaço Cultural eletronuclear will host exhibits and new releases mainly of local artists, as well as serve as an informa-tion center about the operation of Brazil’s nuclear plants.

according to neusa maria toreta silva of the social and environmental responsi-bility office of eletrobrás eletronuclear, the center contributes to the company’s goal of supporting the local culture in the mu-nicipalities neighboring the nuclear plant.

the silo Cultural institute has similar goals, as it seeks to promote and value caiçara* arts and culture, encouraging rescuing, preserving and renewing them through the increased valuing of its local manifestations in Paraty. the institute also seeks to value the cultural wealth of the region and encourage the experimen-tation of a variety of artistic disciplines, as well as promoting cultural exchanges.

O novo Espaço Cultural Eletronuclear foi inaugurado em Paraty. Também foi inaugurada a nova sede do Ins-tituto Silo Cultural, onde vai funcionar o espaço, além da Sala Margaret Mee. Os três espaços ficam na Rua Dr. Samuel Costa, Rua da Praia, no Centro de Paraty.

O Espaço Cultural Eletronuclear apresentará exposições e lançamentos, com destaque para artistas locais, além de prestar informações sobre a operação das usinas nucleares brasileiras.

Segundo Neusa Maria Toreta Silva, da Assessoria de Responsabilidade Socioambiental (ARS.P) da Eletrobras Eletronuclear, o centro contribui para o objetivo da empresa de fomentar a cultura nos municípios vizinhos à central nuclear.

Já o Instituto Silo Cultural busca promover e viabilizar a arte e a cultura caiçaras. A intenção é estimular seu resgate, sua preservação e sua renovação, valorizando as manifestações locais em Paraty. O espaço busca ain-da valorizar a riqueza cultural da região e incentivar a experimentação de diferentes linguagens artísticas, além de promover intercâmbios culturais.

Cultura local

A Sala Margaret Mee é dedicada à vida e à obra da artista e botânica inglesa, que foi apaixonada pela floresta tropical brasileira. Lá, os visitantes podem conferir algumas de suas pranchas, que ilustram com maestria espécies raras de plantas locais. Também estão em exposição objetos pessoais da ar-tista e painéis ressaltando sua biografia. Sua obra inclui cerca de 400 pranchas de ilustra-ções em guache, 40 sketchbooks (caderno de desenhos) e quinze diários.

Segundo a diretora-executiva do Institu-to Silo Cultural, Vanda Mota, a coexistência dos três espaços culturais será um fator de fortalecimento da cultural local. - A inaugura-ção do Espaço Cultural Eletronuclear ajudará muito na comunicação da empresa com a comunidade de Paraty para a viabilização de novos projetos culturais - destacou.
