thetermsoffinitethoughtorimagination.TheypointoutthatThought,whichistheresultofCausation,cannotbeexpectedtoexplaintheCauselessCause:thatThoughtwhichistemporalcannotbesufficienttoexplaintheEternalthatThoughtwhichisproducedby,andwhichmanifestsChange,cannotsolvetheriddleoftheImmutableandChangeless.TheypointoutthatTheUniversewithholdsitsultimatesecrets,andthatthoughVeilafterveilwilllifttheremustbeveiluponveilbehind.Gautama,theBuddha,warnedhisfollowersagainststrivingtomeasurewithwordstheImmeasurable,ortoengageinthefutiletaskofsinkingthestringofthoughtintotheFathomless.TheUltimateMystery,however,liesstilldeeperthanthe

inabilityofthehumanmindtofathomit,whichinabilityresultsfromthefinitenatureofthehumanmind.Asafewofthekeenestthinkershavepointedouttous,theveryattempttoreetheriddlearisesfromanerroneousandfallaciousfundamentalmistake.Thisfundamentalmistakeconsistsintheillogicalattempttofindanexplanation,i.e.,acauseforthatSomethingorSomewhatwhichbyitsverynatureisandmustbewithoutcause,havingnobecauseattachedtoit.Ohumanmindissoaccustomedtoseekandtofindcausesin,of,andforthings,thatitfallsintothechildlikeerroroftryingtofindcausesfortheCauseless.TheveryconceptionofUltimatePrinciplecarrieswithit

thepositive,fundamentalandessentialimplicationthatsuchaSomethingorSomewhatmustnecessarilybeUltimate,Causeless,Absolute,andEternal.ThatwhichisUltimatecannothavehadaCause.ThatwhichisAbsolutecannothavehadaCause.SuchaSomethingorSomewhatmusthavealwaysexisted,withoutaCausesuchistheinevitable,invariableandinfalliblereportofReasonextendedtothefulllimitsofitspowers.This,whenrightlyunderstood,doesnotreallycontradict
