Em Boston esforçou-se para produzir um telefone que emitisse não somente notas musicais, mas articulasse a fala.

Em 7 de Março de 1876, Bell consegui finalmente ter a patente para o telefone Bell, continuou as suas experiências em comunicação que resultaram no photophone.

A sua empresa foi fundado em 1877, em 1879 fundiu-se com a New England para formar a National Bell telephone company e 1880 fundiu-se com outras para formar a American Bell telephone company.
