Light but still heavy-duty: NORDBLOC housings made from aluminium are created in the Gadesbusch plant inMecklenburg-Vorpommern using state-of-the-art manufacturing methods.

Modern gear units have to be robust, compact, powerful and economical - and above all

they need to be light. This is an advantage because weight inuences cost, especiallyif the gear unit itself is a load that needs to move as part of an automated positioningsystem. Because of this, in many elds aluminium alloy has become a common materialfor gear unit housings.

NORD DRIVESYSTEMS exploits many of the optimal advantages provided by aluminiumalloy for its gear unit housings. The material also has a certain amount of inherent corrosionresistance, and does not require painting. And not least, a housing made from aluminiumis a much better heat conductor than one made from grey cast iron. The lower operatingtemperatures made possible by this are beneficial for the internal components used in thegear unit, providing a longer service life.

One of the objectives during the development of the new NORDBLOC.1 gear unit wasto create a smooth surface on which liquids or solids could not be deposited. This is anadvantage in applications where cleanliness is important. These innovative and patented

gear units do not have any installation openings. This increases strength and alsoprovides a smoother surface.
