    1.1 Single License

A single license must be stored on the computer on which 20-sim is installed. During runtime 20-simwill check if the program is running from the same computer. You have to follow the steps below to

    get a single license:

    1. Install 20-sim and start the program. If you do not have an installation version of the

program download it from the 20-sim website: www.20sim.com.

    2.

From the Helpmenu select Registration/Update License.

    This will open the Registration/Updatewindow.

Use the Registration/Update window to request for a license.

    3.

    Click the Request Licensebutton.

    4. Select the license typeTest or Individual PCandCopythe text to a text editor, fill-in the

missing dataand send it by e-mailto [email protected].

Within two working days, you will receive an e-mail message back with a license file that is unique

    for your computer.

    5. Overwrite the old license file 20sim.lic (click the Locate License Filebutton to find out

    where) with the new one.

If you have purchased multiple licenses, perform step 1 to 5 for every computer on which 20-sim

    should be installed.

    1.2 Floating License

A floating license allows a predefined number of users to work with 20-sim at the same time. It must

be stored on a server that is reachable from all workstations that have 20-sim installed. If you have

purchased 20-sim, you have to perform the following actions to get a floating license:

    1. Install20-sim on a workstation and start the program. If you do not have an installation

version of the program, download it from the 20-sim website: www.20sim.com.

    2.

From the Helpmenu select Registration/Update License.

    1.3 Classroom Kit

For educational purposes, 20-sim is available as a Classroom Kit. A Classroom Kit allows the owner to

make unlimited copies for use by students and teachers. Copies may be used at the educational

institute or at home. A Classroom Kit comes with two types of licenses:

student license which may be distributed among students

floating license which can be installed at the educational institute

    Student License

A student license has no copy-protection but a time limitation of about one year. Controllab Products

B.V. will take care that every year a new student license is sent to the owner of a Classroom Kit.

    1. The student license has to be stored separately. You have to make copieswhenever you

want to distribute this license (or place it on your intranet).

This license can only be used when copies are made from the original file. Once it has been used it

cannot be copied anymore. Of course the staff is also allowed to use the student license. This licensemay also be used by students and staff at home.

    2.

Install 20-sim 4.1. For installation guidelines see section 1.1.

    3.

Overwritethe existing license file20sim.lic with the student license. Usually the

existing license can be found at: "C:\Program Files\20-sim 4.1\bin".

    Floating License

The floating license will have no time limitation but it is copy protected. It allows you to use 20-sim

on multiple machines. For a floating license, all 20-sim programs use a license file that is stored on a

    central location.

    1.

To install a floating licensefollow the instructions of section 1.2.

    2 20-sim 4C 1.1

    2.1 Introduction

20-sim 4C is a prototyping environment that allows you to connect 20-sim models to physical

systems. To test the proper working we have to check that both 20-sim 4C and 20-sim are installedand a target is connected.

    2.2 Connecting the Target

20-sim 4C uses an ethernet connection to communicate with a target. This connection can be

established by a cross cable that is connected between your PC and the target directly or by a

network connection. Using a cross-cable to connect the host PC to the target is recommended if you

start 20-sim 4C for the first time.

Plug in the cross cable or network cable.

    Cross Cable

    1. Plugthe cross cablein the connector of your target.

    2.

The other endof the cross cablemust beplugged into your PC computer.

It may last several minutes before your PC will notice that a cross cable is connected. So be patient if

    20-sim 4C cannot make a connection immediately.

    Network Cable

    1. Plug the network cablein the connector of your target.

    2. The other endof the network cablemust be plugged into a switch or hub of the

    network.

Use a 'normal' network cable to connect your target via a switch or hub to your network. If your

network provides a DHCP server the configuration is automatic. If your network does not provide a

DHCP server make sure your network is configured in the 192.168.1.x range and that your PC

computer has a proper connection to the network.

Make sure that you have a 20-sim licensethat allows you to run 20-sim 4C. Contact your

local distributor how to get such a license.

    3. From theWindows Start menu open20-sim.

    4. In the 20-sim Editorfrom the Toolsmenu click the Optionscommand.

    5. In the window that pops up, click the Code Generationtab.

Note: depending on the location of 20-sim 4C, the path may be different. Enter you own path here.

The file targets.inishows where 20-sim 4C is located. If you are generating C-code from 20-sim, the

code will be automatically transferred to 20-sim 4C.

    20-sim 4.1

    1. Install 20-sim 4.1 Professional.

    2. Make sure that you have a 20-sim licensethat allows you to run 20-sim 4C. Contact your

local distributor how to get such a license.

    3 Torsion Bar 1.0

    3.1 Hardware

For the proper operation of the Torsion Bar, a PC computer is required that is connected to the

Torsion Bar either directly with a cross cable or via a network. On the PC computer, the softwarepackages 20-sim Professional and 20-sim 4C have to be installed. This section describes how to

make the various installations. In the next sections we will run two models to test if the Torsion Bar

    is working properly.

    Power

    1.

Checkif the correct power adapterwas supplied.

The Torsion Bar is delivered with a power adaptor that yields 12 V output. Depending on the country,

a 220 V or a 110 V input is used. Check if the power adaptor has the correct input voltage.

    2.

    Plug inthe power adapter.

Plug in the power cable just below the motor. Right of the power connector is the power switch.

The output of the power adaptor can be connected just below the motor. The input of the power

adaptor has to be connected to you local 220 V or 110 V supply.

    3. Switch onthe power.

The power switch is located right to the power cable connector. If you switch it down some LED's onthe controller board should start to shine.

    Cross Cable

The network can be connected in two ways using a cross cable or a network cable. Using a cross-

cable to connect the host PC to the Torsion Bar is the recommended approach.

    1.

Plug inthe cross cablein the most left connector of the controller board.

To most left connect or is used for a network connection.

    2. The otherendof the cross cablemust be plugged in into your PC computer.

    your PC computer.

    3. Copythe example files from the CD-Rom(e.g. D:\Torsion Bar\20-sim\*.*) to a local folder

    (e.g. C:\My Documents\Torsion Bar\20-sim\*.*).

    4.1 Hardware

To run the TS-7300 board, a PC computer should be connected, either with a cross cable or via a

network. On the PC computer, the software packages 20-sim Professional and 20-sim 4C have to beinstalled. This section describes how to make the various installations. In the next section we will run

a model to test if the TS-7300 board is working properly.

The Demonstration Kit is delivered with a power adaptor that yields 5 V output. Depending on the

country, a 220 V or a 110 V input is used. Check if the power adaptor has the correct input voltage.

    2. Connectthe power adapter to the board as indicated in the next picture.

    3. Switch onthe power.

You switch on the power by putting the power plug of the power adapter into the local grid. As soon

as the power is on, the LED's on the controller board should start to shine. The board will now

automatically boot from the SD card.

    Cross Cable

The communication between the TS-7300 board and the host PC is established with a cross cable or

a network cable. A cross cable is used for a direct connection with the PC. A network cable is used for

an indirect connection through a network switch or other network components. Using a cross-cable to

connect the host PC to the TS-7300 board is the recommended approach for first time users.

    1.

Plug inthe cross cablein the most left connector of the controller board.

To most left connect or is used for both the cross cable and network cable.

    2.

The other endof the cross cable must be plugged into your PC.

It may last several minutes before your PC will notice that a cross cable is connected. So be patient if
