Our country made a step in cosmos half a century ago, opening up the era of space

exploration. In the year of the 50

th

anniversary of Gagarins glight and the first spaceship VostocRussia is becoming the centre of piloted astronautics. The UN declares the 12 th of April InternationalDay of Human Space Flight. The whole world celebrates the Day of Space by the Russian calendar.

The international space station is the outpost of humankind in the Earths orbit. It is the largestspace object that has ever been developed. Today Russia is the only country which has enoughpower to send piloted spacecrafts to ISS. For years ahead the mission of RosCosmos is to maintainand develop the orbital station and move further towards the remote galaxies. Space missions of the21st century are due to start here, in the Far East, in Amurskaya oblast. It is here in the taiga where awhole city and the most modern cosmodrome Vostochniy, provided with 4 lounch pads, a trainingcentre for astronauts, hotels, a railway stations and an airport, will soon be erected. Says Prime

minister Vladimir Putin: The Vostochniy lounch side is expected to confirm the highest status andthe leading position of Russia in the area.

Today Russia is choosing its road to stars again. A new federal space program contains plansof farther space exploration for decades on and on after a long break. Russian science is in orbitagain. The most sophisticated radio telescope RadioAstron the first in the chain of blast off ofautomated apparatuses designed for galaxy exploration.

Says the Head of the Russian Federal Space Agency, Roscosmos, Vladimir Popovkin: Weare planning to launch Spektr operating in the x-ray wavelength range in 2013, and in 2015 the one inthe ultraviolet range. Now weve been developing an observatory operating in the millimeter

wavelength range which is likely to be launched some time around 2017.

Following RadioAstron, astrophysical observatories Spektr- RG, Spektr-F, Phobos-soil andLuna-Globe will continue space exploration.

Nearly a half of all space launches in the world have been carried out by Russia so far. Thespacecraft Soyuz, the most reliable launch vehicle, is getting a new registration at the Kourouspaceport at the French Guiana. It is a new starting point on the map of Soyuz. It is from here, theequator, that the first Russian rocket is due to blast off this autumn.

Satilites GLONASS pave the way forEarthmen for mation of the orbital group and international certification of GLONASS are to becompleted this year. Russia is ready to offer the whole world satellite voice services free of charge.Rocket and space industry in the very innovative and engine which can give an impetus to thedevelopment of other branches of national economy. Space exploration gives a push to thedevelopment of fundamental and applied science.
