Infelizmente, no barato. E no outlet Woodburyhttp://www.premiumoutlets.com/outlets/outlet.asp?id=7encontrei a loja temtica daBOSE e no resisti.

Embora PS2T tenha monitor

    O CONTESTE

The ham radio competition CQWW CW (amateur radio telegraphy mode) involved theworld last November 28 and 29. In 1991 I participated for first time, and on thatoccasion closed with 11 (eleven) contacts only.

This time, instead of using my own station in Jaboticabal, I had permission to operate

from PS2T, PY5EG Atilano property in Araraquara, SP. It is very well equipped and theantenna farm is fantastic. In 2008 I made a small movie that can be seen inhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cj1aoaudv2y

After 43 hours of activity, the following result:

I will do some comments that may serve as well as my colleagues opinions, make meinto constant learning, serving to achieve best results time after time.

In week immediately preceding the CQWW CW I made for sure with PY5EG that wouldbe nobody interested to activate PS2T, especially with chances of good classification. I

have always had with me that these "big stations" should be taken around first in theworld ranking, and always considered myself humble enough to recognize thecompetenceof the other guys and my limitations.

Atilano give me the final permission and PY2WS gave me traditional technical support. He was adviced that was my personal claim operate "Low Power Single Op All Band",as I do eventually at my home. PY2WS and PY5EG gave huge incentive, especiallydue the importance to keep in this known station on the air for competition.

From that time, began the epic.

    Earphones

In the beginning of November, Ana and I had the opportunity to travel New York. Wespent amazing days and one in particular, with our friends George N2GA and DianeK2DO at Metropolitan Museum. I am grateful to K2WR and KF2O for all the tips andsuggestions sent us by e-mail.

In addition to sports and cultural activities, I had a secondary goal, while looking for shopping.

For years I saw PY5EG using QC-2 earphones from BOSE, and after tying theequipment on your workstation, I was totally shock with results. It s lightweight and

comfortable, has "noise cancelling technology", and has the tradicion from BOSE(brand tradition for those who enjoy sound ...).

Unfortunately, it is not cheap. And in Woodbury, New Jersey http://www.premiumoutlets.com/outlets/outlet.asp?id=7I found the Bose Store and wasimpossible to resist. I did go there, sat down with the seller man, mentioned the QC-2and unfortunately it was discontinued, replaced more recently by QC-15. Reportedly, the seller informed that all standards of comfort, lightness and mobility remainedpresent in QC-15, and that technologically this new model represents an improvementon the previous QC-2.

Ok, I bought the headphone, and the first test was CQWW CW, from PS2T.Was one of my best options in life, talking about ham radio accessories! Fantastic!Despite continuous use, was like having nothing on the head with no pressure, nodiscomfort. The sound quality is unusual and the "noise cancelling" worked very well, but still need a new test with the amplifiers ant their cooling fans (remember that I wasdoing low power this time).

The next step is to adapt the "boomset" Heil to headphone, and use it in CW and SSB.And the obvious conclusion is worth it, worth every cent paid! Moreover, can be usedwith Ipod, Stereo sound and while traveling...

    RADIOS USED

Two radios, the FT-2000 reach left hand and FT-1000-Field with the hand right.

THE FT-2000 is on the station already some time ago, and the FT-1000-Field I tookfrom my house. I found myself that FT-1000-Field has more "tasty" than FT-2000. Iread some reviews about Yaesu taking some time to fix the FT-2000 and my mainquestion with it is the overloaded reception, and more acute than expected. The

filtering resources are interesting, but seems to me that FT-1000-Field still can be moresmooth and solid.

The combination of two same manufacturer equipment makes easy setting the SO2Rstation. Ergonomic point of view, the two radios have similar design and help to speedoperation.

See now as radios were used:

Its good to remember that only FT-2000 was connected with K9AY antenna on 160mand 80m.

    FILTERING

The PS2T four towers are apart from each other and the Band-Pass Filters BPF-600http://www.dunestar.com/model600.htmof Dunestar did a good job, especially in lowpower. Anyway, I had problems while transmiting in 20m with FT-2000 and listening inFT-1000-Field on 15m.

At my home (Jaboticabal, PY2NY, GG58ur) have only one BPF-600 and the result isunsatisfactory, because I have all the antennas on same tower ... I have to acquire anew BPF-600 to see if is possible to get better results, keeping both radios with thistype of filtering.

SO2R (Single Op with two radios)

Finally, I operate more ears and desire with two radios at the same time. The N1MMsoftware has been stable all the time, controlling TopTen Doubler http://www.qth.com/topten/dxd.htm. At PY2NY station the box is Microham MK2R+.The QC-15 Bose earphones worked with very high performance.

Finally, was a so positive resource using "CQ" duelling, which switches the call CQbetween radios, i.e.: CQ in 15m and passes to the radio for CQ in 20 m, for example ...The cursor is in the first window in the CA while calls opposite radio, so that if someoneanswers the first CQ simply fill in the entry window and press to have your answer exactly where should occur.

This function can be scheduled both CW and in SSB.

Another interesting task is populate "bandmap" with second radio while the "running" ison the first radio. This allows you to increase multipliers because when migrating froma band to another, you can start with the "S & P" before choosing a free frequency andcall "CQ".

I am still think that SO2R is a mad thing, and to be like the greats CT1BOH, N2ICN6BV and others, will be necessary many years and when it arrives, I will be usingdeafness apparatus due of my advanced age.

For those who use only FT-1000mp or similar, I suggest the SO2V setting in N1MMsoftware, operating with the two open VFOs and eventually populating "bandmap" withthe second VFO. If you have practice with full-QSK, is even better. In first VFO cankeep the "running" and the second VFO, search and work new stations and/or multipliers.

In the following picture you can see how I use my 17-inch LCD monitor at my house(Jaboticabal SP). Although PS2T has 15 inches LCD screen, I basically did the samekind of config:

    PREPARATION Murphy's law

On Friday, did my job up to 19h00min (21h00min UTC) as usual. My wife Ana(PU2VYT) and I ate something and I went to the PS2T station 21h15min (23h15minUTC). I installed FT-1000-Field and then began to be confused with what should be sotrivial.

By absolute ignorance cannot configure two radios to operate on SO2R, or at leastleave the radios operational. At very high cost, FT-1000-Field began to see 20mband, with the antenna connected direct in its rear panel, without passing by "relay

box", BPF-600 and "band decoders". The FT-2000 was totally death, despite theantenna could seem right connected at right place on rear panel.

This was the picture when contest began, generating one of my worst "first hour" ever, with only 39 contacts made. Even in RTTY I did more!Mea culpa, mea maximaculpa

On also, I had to recall "master chief" PY2WS who, over the telephone, heard and sentme first guidelines. Marcos was with his son in Army graduation party and did notwithdraws coming to me late at night. After the party, came to share his clinical eye tostation and realized all my mistakes:

  • 8/14/2019 PS2T CQWW CW 2009

    14/18

FT-2000 was not connected to the antenna, but right to the Acom-2000 amplifier, whichwas without antenna. The connector on back of FT-2000 was only connecting radioand amplifier; this why it would be impossible to hear something that radio.

The connections between computer and radios were also committed in because of the

last operation of PS2T in CQ WW SSB, when OH2MM, I & others used two separatecomputers for transceivers. This was also a compounding factor to mount PS2T inCQWW CW and once again, the responsibility was all about myself.

This shows how it is important to check the station at least a day before. However, even in my home, not always I have time for this. Several times I am going straight tothe shack for contesting, with only 10 or 15 minutes to check everything before thecontest.

THE CONTEST With all the problems I sat for the beginning of the competition, to 22h00min PY2(00h00min UTC).

I made mandatory do myself do 43 of the 48 hours and I did that, which was a truevictory. The first hour was daunting, with 39 contacts. After the passage of PY2WS andthe reconfiguration of the station, things improved, not quantity, but on quality.

My goal was to complete the contest with 3,000 contacts, but from the two first hours, Ifelt that I wouldn't. Need to maintain an average of 70 contacts per hour next 43 hours.

At the end of first 24 hours, closed 1.600 contacts. Near of hour 23/24 I had threehours that were my best in sequence: 137, 183 and 192 QSOs (see table below).
