Location of Dental Research Program: Dental Sciences Dept, Naval Medical Research Institute, Bethesda, Maryland 20014 USA. Fields of Interest: Biologic responses of the oral tissues to restorative materials and treatment procedures: development of new methods for biologic materials; and evaluation of dental treatment procedures and restorative materials. These include both human and animal usage tests, including pulp tests, and general and local toxicity screening tests. Mechanisms of bone repair in the oral-maxillofacial area: relationship of immunocompetent cells and the process of bone resorption in the healing process; characterization of precursors of cells involved in bone resorption and repair; and the role of lysosomal enzymes in the process of bone repair. Eligibility: All those candidates within five years of their doctorate (MD, DDS, PhD, DVM, or other appropriate degree) either US or Foreign Nationals. Salary: All selected candidates receive Civil Service Commission temporary ap- pointment grade scale GS-11, currently $17,056/year, subject to both state and federal staxes. Moving and travel expenses within the US are additional. Research Advisors: Drs. William R. Cotton and Donald W. Turner. Deadline for Submission of Application: Complete application and research pro- posal must be submitted by Jan 15, 1978, for fellowships starting in the Fall or Winter 1978.
