É uma casa imaculada. Uma ode à beleza. Ordem e tranquilidade; transparência e luz; conforto e repouso. São algumas das coordenadas que compõem a geografia interior deste lar em Kensington. Na beleza em todos os espaços é clara a devoção à intemporalidade clássica. E, na dimensão escultórica ornamental, o convite à admiração e contemplação por quem a visita e dela usufrui. Na verdade, o grau de perfeição é tal que, a um primeiro olhar, é difícil imaginar esta casa como testemunha do normal bulício quotidiano de uma família ou descobrir-lhe palavras que a traduzam. E é só ao observarmos o quase diáfano, simultaneamente doce e majestoso, e altamente improvável “retrato” de Elizabeth II no drawing room, que nos vem à memória a frase: “O essencial é invisível aos olhos” e tudo faz sentido. Como se um manto invisível, sobre um subtil rastro feminino, se levantasse.

A atenção dada ao conforto e à criação de generosos espaços sentados no drawing room são a evidência de que sob a ordem – sublinhada no gosto por simetrias – e a dimensão expositiva – são inúmeras as belíssimas peças escultóricas, de estilo clássico ou Art Déco, sobre mesas ou pedestais –, esta casa se ergue, simultaneamente, como haven e palazzo. Íntima e solene. Em tudo, profusamente afável e suave.

E é na paleta de cores dominante – água marinha, turquesa, esmeralda – que nos é revelada uma outra cartografia. A do gosto pelo mar e pela luz da costa italiana, presente nas memórias de juventude da proprietária. Na cozinha encontramos uma série de quatro fotografias desse mar e dessa costa. Capturas do olhar de um desses momentos de suspensão do corpo, da vida, em contacto com a realidade mais elementar. Também na alvura e monumentalidade das pedras de mármore Carrara, repercutidas na cozinha e na casa de banho, se sente a herança da beleza italiana clássica e de um estilo de vida em comunhão com os gestos mais simples. Como nos diz Paolo Moschino, o responsável pelo design de interiores desta casa: “Em Itália podemos ter um palácio, mas servir mozarela e rir. A grandeza histórica dos espaços alia-se a uma forma de estar descontraída.”

A importância da luz faz-se também sentir na atenção dada ao brilho por toda a casa. Pontos de reverberação da luz como uma fragrância. Na presença do cobre, mas, particularmente, do vidro. Nas colunas de luz vintage no hall de entrada, nas jarras, taças, candeeiros em vidro Murano pela casa ou nos painéis em mercúrio de vidro na lareira, que emanam brilho e patine.

It is an immaculate home. An ode to beauty. Orderliness and tranquil-lity; transparency and light; comfort and restfulness. These are some of the coordinates that comprise the inner geography of this Kensington home. In the beauty of all of its spaces there is a clear devotion to timeless classicism. And, in the dimension of ornamental sculpture, an invitation to admiration and contemplation is extended to those visit-ing and using the home. In fact, the degree of perfection is such that, at first glance, it is difficult to imagine this home as the setting for the normal daily bustle of a family or to even find words able to describe it. And it is only when we observe the almost diaphanous, simultaneously sweet, majestic and highly improbable ‘portrait’ of Elizabeth II in the drawing room that we recall the phrase: “The essential is invisible to the eye” and everything begins to make sense. As if an invisible veil, over a subtle feminine trail, had suddenly been lifted.

The attention given to comfort and the creation of generous seating areas in the drawing room provide evidence that it is through order-liness – underlined by a taste for the symmetrical – and a display di-mension – with the countless and exquisitely beautiful sculptural piec-es, ranging from classical to Art Deco style – that this house emerges simultaneously as a haven and a palazzo. Intimate and solemn. And in everything, profusely gracious and soft.

And through the palette of dominant colours – aquamarine, tur-quoise and emerald – another type of cartography is revealed to us. That of a passion for the sea and light of the Italian coast, so present in the youthful memories of the homeowner. In the kitchen we find a series of photographs of that particular sea and coast. Eye captures of one of those moments, when body and life are almost suspended, in contact with this more elementary reality. Also in the whiteness and monumentality of the Carrara marble walls reverberating in the kitch-en and in the bathroom, one feels the legacy of classic Italian beauty and of a lifestyle in communion with the simplest of gestures. As Paolo Moschino – responsible for the interior design of this home – tells us, “In Italy you might have a big pallazo but serve mozzarella and laugh. It’s a relaxed approach within the historical grandeur of a room.”

The importance of light can also be sensed in the attention given to the brightness around the house. Light emanates from certain points like a fragrance. In the presence of copper but, especially, of glass. In the vintage columns of light in the entrance hall, in the vases, bowls, Murano glass lamps or in the panels of mercury glass around the fire-place, which emanate both brightness and a subtle patina.
