Currently, the world population is steadily aging. According to the United Nations, by 2025 the number of senior citizens in the world will be 1.1 billion, two times more than in the year 2000 and five times more than in 1950. In Brazil, according to the Perseu Abramo Foundation and SESC (Commerce Social Service) in twenty-five years, 16% of the population will be 60+ years old.

Due to the increase in the number of elderly people, the Ministry of Tourism launched in 2007, the portal Viaja Mais Melhor Idade, with the goal of stimulating the tourism of this age group offering optimal credit conditions such as discounts in lodging, transportation, food service and related activities. In order to boost credit offers, the two major State-owned banks in the country, Caixa Economica Federal and Banco do Brasil, joined the program. The main goal of the portal Viaja Mais Melhor Idade, is to stimulate senior citizens to travel within Brazil or abroad during periods of low occupancy, configuring itself as an alternative way to reduce the impact that the tourism industry suffers during these times.

However, despite the internet portal, the Ministry of Tourism needed a mobile application

This institution is divided in three parts, they are: The National Secretariat of Tourism Politics, The National Secretariat of Tourism Developing Programs and Embratur (Brazilian Tourim Institute), responsible for marketing and supporting product commercialization, services and overseas destinations for Brazilians.

THE SOLUTION

When accessing the application the user can access all features of the portal Viaja Mais Melhor Idade such as promotions, credit information and frequently asked questions. The home page offers all types of offers in the app, they are: traveling packages, transportations, lodging, food service and activities.

In another screen, the application shows the information about credit available in banks to facilitate the purchase of any package.

In addition, the user can find travel agencies and its informations using the search engine that find agencies in the desired city. There are more than 1600 travel agencies registered in the system.

The user has access to more than 400 customized travel packages for senior citizens from precise searches in a specific city. Once the desired package is chosen, the user will find a full description of the item selected with all items that are included and what is not included and the conditions of the offer. Also, there are pictures of the desired location and information of the travel agency responsible for the this specific offer.

The application was available in the Windows Store in February 2014.
