The initiative aspires to:
• engage with stakeholders to trial a major $1 million street-by-street sensor air quality
monitoring system
• analyze harmful pollution in up to 1,000 toxic hot spots across the city including
schools, hospitals, construction sites and busy roads
• explore the efficacy of low-cost sensors to engage citizens and influence policy

Air quality management process• Network’s first workshop was held in
Bengaluru 31 July – 2 August 2018.
• The workshop brought together 14 C40
cities that are actively engaged in
improving air quality in their cities.
• The agenda focused on gaining
knowledge on best practices in the
various components of modern air
quality management.
• Member cities at the workshop
developed the Network’s workstreams to
meet their needs and advance collective
global action.

OVERALL OBJECTIVE: Reduce pollution exposure in C40 cities while helping cities
meet Paris Agreement climate targets
• Monitoring and Measurement – source apportionment, emissions inventories, low-cost sensors, etc.
• Health Impact Analysis – measuring and analysing health impacts.
• Making the Case – helping cities make the political and public case and engage citizens in actions to
address air pollution and climate change.
• Policy Implementation – regulatory structures, governance, enforcement (in collaboration with C40
transportation, energy, buildings, waste and adaptation networks).
