Uma vida em continuidade

Já há algum tempo na terceira idade é mais do que chegada a hora de começar a compartilhar o que aprendi ao longo da vida e de alguma forma começar a retribuir à sociedade o que a sociedade me ofereceu em oportunidades, aprendizados e experiências.Os meus mais de 40 anos de vida profissional sempre estiveram relacionados com “continuidade” sendo que nos últimos 20 passei a me dedicar exclusivamente à “continuidade” e assuntos relacionados.Tudo começou quando ainda na faculdade de Ciências da Computação da USP fui trabalhar no Metro de São Paulo para desenvolver um sistema de controle do “shield” – escavadora subterrânea de túneis. O objetivo do sistema era assegurar que o eixo do túnel estivesse conforme previsto no projeto e em caso de desvios fornecer elementos para as equipes de engenharia revisarem o projeto e com isto assegurar a “continuidade” dos trilhos.Após alguns anos, fui para a Cia. De Engenharia de Tráfego para desenvolver sistemas de controle para manter a “continuidade” do fluxo de tráfego utilizando microprocessador 8080/8086, novidade na época. Daí fui para a Inglaterra trabalhar no desenvolvimento do Sistema de Controle de Tráfego da cidade de São Paulo, um sistema de alta disponibilidade e que já tinha no seu projeto conceitos básicos de DRP.Depois de muitos invernos, ameaças de bomba do IRA, visitas a abrigos nucleares, coisas que não existiam no Brasil, e a começar a entender o que mais tarde seria o conceito de sociedade resiliente, voltei ao Brasil para trabalhar na Credicard, a maior operadora de cartões de crédito do país.Administrada pelo Citicorp, as exigências de gestão, disponibilidade e até mesmo prevenção de desastres em TI já era bastante evoluída para a época. A life in Continuity

It´s quite a while I am at the third age and it is more than time to start sharing what I learned throughout my life and in same a way to give back to the society what the society offered me in opportunities, learnings and experiences.Mine more the 40 years of professional experience has been always somehow related with “continuity” especially in the last 20 years when I became a full time Business Continuity practitioner and related matters.All started when I was still in college taking Bachelor in Computer Science classes at the University of São Paulo and started working in the São Paulo subway to develop a control system to the “shield” – an underground tunnel digger. The key objective was to ensure the axle of the tunnel was in the correct position and in the event of a drift; the engineering teams had all elements to review the project assuring the “continuity” of the rails.After a few years, I moved to the Traffic Control authority of the city of São Paulo to develop traffic control systems to maintain the “continuity” of the traffic based on the 8080/8086 microprocessors, the microprocessor start of the art at the time. From there, I moved to England to work in the development team of the Traffic Control System of the City of São Paulo, a high availability system with many DRP basic concepts in its project.After many winters, IRA bomb threats, visits to nuclear shelters, things that were far distant from the Brazilian reality, and to start to understand the concept of resilient society, I returned to Brazil to work at Credicard, the largest credit card company in the country.Run by Citicorp, the requirements in management, availability and even IT disaster recovery were well developed and ahead of the country at the time. One of my initial projects was the development of a DRP for the IBM mainframes Data Center that was functional. We were around 1985/6. After 10 years more, not only the

quase 10 anos, além do DRP passei a ser responsável também pelas áreas de operação (24x7) e de entrega de serviços de TI do Data Center, o que mais tarde seria conhecido como ITIL. Os cursos de formação gerencial e a necessidade de justificar os altos investimentos na infraestrutura do Data Center de forma a permitir a “continuidade” do crescimento da empresa me permitiram desenvolver uma comunicação executiva, sintética e objetiva, pouco comum nas áreas técnicas.Findo este ciclo fui para uma empresa de consultoria especializada em softwares de backup e restore para bancos de dados IMS e DB2, fundamentos dos DRPs em cold/warm sites.Com os conhecimentos adquiridos num curso de pós graduação na FIA/FEA/USP em Empreendedorismo e a proximidade do Bug do Milênio me levaram a ser um profissional dedicado exclusivamente a Continuidade de Negócios.Pesquisando as empresas líderes de mercado na época e sem a ajuda da Google, encontrei o LDRPS e a Strohl Systems, toda a sua equipe de consultores e de desenvolvimento, com quem tive a oportunidade de compartilhar muita experiência, principalmente no início desta nova etapa profissional.Investindo na carreira vieram a aprovação no exame do DRII, no BCI como MBCI, BCI Forum Leader no Brasil, as qualificações BS 25999 Technical Expert e depois ISO 22301 Technical Expert pelo BSI.E a vida “continua”, com 3 filhos, um já adulto e com vida própria, outro com 4 anos e o menor com um pouco mais de 3 meses além de dedicar à eles, à carreira em Continuidade de Negócios, compartilhando as minhas experiências neste blog , pretendo ainda me dedicar à Sociedades e Organizações Resilientes e a questões relacionadas às Mudanças Climáticas, tópicos pouco desenvolvidos no Brasil.Espero que vocês gostem deste blog e deixo aqui o meu sincero agradecimento.

DRP but I became also responsible for the operation (24x7, IT capacity planning and service delivery of the Data Center, what would be latter on known as ITIL – IT Infrastructure Library. All management trainings and the need to justify to Top Management the high investments in the Data Center infrastructure to allow the “continuity” of the company growth allowed me to develop an executive communication, synthetic and objective, not common in technical areas and nowadays very useful when interviewing executives.After this cycle, I moved to a consulting company specialized in backup and restore software for IMS and DB2 databases, foundations for cold/warm DRP sites.With the knowledge learned in a Entrepreneurship master degree at FIA/FEA/USP and the closeness of the Y2K bug I shifted again my professional career to become a full time Business Continuity practitioner.Looking for the leader companies in this market at the time and without the help of Google, I found LDRPS and Strohl Systems, all its consulting and development team, with whom I had the great opportunity to share and learn our experiences, especially at my early stages in this new professional career.Investing further in the career, I had my approval in the DRII exam, at BCI as MBCI, BCI Forum leader in Brazil, the BS 25999 Technical Expert and after the ISO 22301 Technical Expert qualifications by BSI.And the life goes on, with 3 boys, one already grow up, another 4 and the youngest a bit over 3 months old, my priorities today are to dedicate myself to them, to my Business Continuity career, sharing my experiences in this blog and I also plan to dedicate myself to Resilient Societies and Organizations, and to the Climate Changes topics requiring a better development in Brazil.I wish you enjoy this blog and I leave here my sincere thanks.
