GUIDE CARD

Study this.Do you want to have some fun?

Before you start the game in renaming decimals as fractions, study the examples below.

0.8 = 810 0.25 = 25100

8.82 = 8 82100

Think…Think…Think…Let us have a short review:How do we rename a decimal as a fraction?

To rename 0.5 and 0.25 as fractions, we can use regions.

0.25= 25100

0.5 or 510 12

0.5 = 510 or 12

3

GUIDE CARDHere is another way to rename a decimal as a fraction.

Rename 0.8 as a fraction with denominator of 10

0.8 = 810

Find the “Greatest Common Factor” (GCF) of the numerator and denominator

How do we find the greatest common factor of 2 numbers? First we find the prime factorization of both numbers using the factor tree8 10

4 x 2 5 x 2

2 x 2Divide the numerator and denominator by the GCF

810 = 8÷210÷2=45

So, 0.8 = 45

4

Write the decimal as a fraction with a denominator of 10 or 100. Then divide the numerator and denominator by their greatest common factor (GCF) to change the fraction to lowest terms.

7

To rename a decimal as a fraction in lowest terms, write it first as a fraction with a denominator of 10 or 100. Then divide the numerator and denominator by their greatest common factor (GCF) to change the fraction to lowest terms.

JOB WELL DONE!

Let’s try some more!

Write each decimal as a fraction in lowest terms. Ex. 0.12= 12100

12÷4100÷ 4

= 325 so, 12100 = 325

1. 0.962. 0.123. 1.804. 2.255. 0.266. 2.357. 0.448. 3.679. 8.8210. 7.55
