Use to move your BattlePokémon. Double-tap up,down, left, or right to dashstep in that direction. In DuelPhase you can onlymove forward or backward, not side to side.

Press to jump in place. If youpress a direction on at the sametime, you can control the direction ofthe jump.

There will be a few momentsof planning time before eachround. During this time youcan choose which SupportPokémon to use inthe next round and, if certain circumstances havebeen met, Nia's Cheer will be activated.

The first side to win a setnumber of rounds (normallytwo) is declared the winner ofthe battle. A round is won byreducing the opponent's HPto 0. If the time remaining reaches 0 before aPokémon's HP, the Pokémon with the higher HPpercentage remaining will win the round.

When the battle finishes,Pokémon will get skill exp.depending on how theyfought. Once the Pokémongets a certain amount, its skilllevel will increase and it will earn a skillpoint. You may also receive items or titles for youravatar, Poké Gold (PG), and you may even get alucky bonus!

Battles will shift between two different phases:Field Phase and Duel Phase. Each phase changesthe point of view and available actions, as well asthe controls to a certain extent. However, thetried-and-true concept of "forward" meaning"toward the opponent" and "backward" meaning"away from the opponent" remains true. Keep thisin mind as the phases shift, since the directionsyou need to press on to perform moves will shiftas well.

If certain attacks hit anopponent, they will cause aPhase Shift and the SynergyGauge will increasegreatly.

Press + when SynergyBurst is active to use a BurstAttack. The Burst Attack canbe used only once perSynergy Burst, but if it hits, itcan cause massive damage to an opponent. BurstAttacks differ depending on the Pokémon.

In this single-player mode you can participate inthe official Ferrum Battle leagues as you aim forthe top spot. New battle trainers start at D Rankand must therefore battle in the Green League.Each league has a series of matches that canincrease your ranking within the league, and thena tournament consisting of the top eightcontenders to determine a final victor.

In order to climb the rank of the Ferrum Battleleagues, you'll first need to participate in LeagueMatches to break into the top eight. After that youneed to win the league tournament, at which pointyou can take the Promotion Test run by theLeague Master. If you can overcome all otherobstacles and then pass this final test, you will bepromoted to the next league.

Compete in matches againstyour league rivals. In LeagueMatch you'll duke it out withfive battle trainers of similarranking one after another,and your league ranking may go up or down basedon the results.

♦ Your rank in this mode is completely separate fromyour rank in Online Battle mode . Single-player battles will not affect your Online Battle rankand vice versa.

This two-player mode pits twoplayers against each otherusing the Wii U GamePad andone other controller. Theplayer using the Wii UGamePad (P1) will look at the GamePad screen toplay, while the player using the other controller(P2) will look at the TV screen. As with SingleBattle mode , you'll choose either "BasicBattle" or "Extra Battle" and then choose yourBattle Pokémon, support sets, Cheer Skill, and thestage.

This mode has all the samerules as Single Battle mode,plus the option of setting ahandicap to limit the startingHP of a Battle Pokémon.

Practice mode offers you multiple ways to train forbattle.

Learn how to battle with step-by-step training coursesdesigned to teach you fromthe ground up. Choose acourse and a Battle Pokémon,and then follow the on-screen instructions tocomplete the various exercises.

In this training mode you canadjust various battleconditions, such as how theopponent reacts to yourattacks. Choose your ownand your opponent's Battle Pokémon and supportsets, and then choose which stage you'll battle into begin. Press during training to open the FreeTraining Menu to adjust the finer points of thesettings.

Here you can practice aPokémon's moves one at atime. Choose a BattlePokémon and follow theinstructions on the screen.
