todas as suas roupas.

O rei de Nog era um homem nobre egeneroso chamado Rei Blguish. Certodia, o chapu prpura do rei sumiu. Erao chapu predileto do Rei Blguish eele ficou muito triste por t-lo perdido.Seus servos passaram o dia procurando

por todo o castelo, mas noencontraram o chapu

On the imaginary planet of Nog, lived the Noggians,who were a friendly one-eye, blue-skinned race ofpeople. They wore purple clothes in a style that, to youand me, would seem more like pajamas. There was atype of tree on Nog that had purple sap, which theNoggians used to dye alltheir cloth.

The king of Nog was a grand and generousman named King Bloggish. One daythe kings purple hat went missing.This was King Bloggishs favoritehat, and he was very sad to havelost it. His servants spent the day

looking all over his palace, but wereunable to find the hat.

Im sure you will know how to find my beautiful hat,said King Bloggish, turning to his most trustworthy andbrilliant counselors for help.

I suspect, said Contog the Wise, that you left yourhat at your mothers house when you visited her

yesterday.

Yes, yes, said the king, that is very possible.

And I suspect, said Beshot the Great, that it fell offyour head when you went for a ride on your cootang*yesterday. (*A cootang is an animal on Nog that ismuch like a horse, only with purple hair.)

Hmm. That is also possible, said the king.Im sure I know where it is, my lord, said Dashfootthe Quick. Last night, as you stood on your balcony, itwas quite windy. The wind probably blew the hat offyour head. Because the wind was blowing to the east,Im sure that if we look in the field that iseast of the palace, we will find it there.

That is also a possibility, said the king,as he stood up from his throne. I amvery tired from the strain of worryingabout my lost hat. Ill leave this matter inyour capable hands. I trust you todetermine a good plan for finding my hat.I will give a reward to the one or oneswho find it. Good evening.

Sei que vocs sabero como encontrar o meu lindochapu, disse o rei, buscando a ajuda de seus maisconfiveis e inteligentes conselheiros.

Suspeito que o tenha deixado na casa da sua me quandoa visitou ontem. Disse Contoga, o Sbio.

Sim, claro. disse o rei. possvel.

E eu disse Sabicho, o Grande. suspeito que tenhacado de sua cabea quando cavalgava em seu Lindaluz*ontem. (*Um Lindaluz um animal de Nog muito parecidocom um cavalo, mas de plo prpura.)

Hmm. Tambm possvel. Disse o rei.

Tenho certeza que sei onde est, meu senhor, dissePdivento, o Rpido. Ontem noite, quando voc estavaem sua sacada, o vento estava forte. O seu chapuprovavelmente foi levado pelo vento, e como soprava nadireo leste, tenho certeza que se procurarmos no campo ao

leste do palcio, o encontraremos.

The counselors gathered closer togetherto discuss the problem.

Firstly said Beshot, I think your

idea, Dashfoot, is totally absurd. Thatwind, as you call it, was barely abreeze. I am sure my suggestion ofwhat happened to the kings hat ismore likely.

What? shouted Dashfoot. Yournotion is not only unlikely, but its also

ridiculous to think our wise king did notsecure his hat before setting out onhis ride.

The two of you can continue to argueabout your foolish opinions concerningwhat happened to the kings hat.However, I am certain that I will be the

one to receive the kings promisedreward, said Contog. I happen toknow the king visited his motheryesterday evening, and Im sure hemust have set his hat down while hewas talking to her.

Os conselheiros aproximaram-se unsdos outros para discutirem o problema.

Em primeiro lugar, disse

Sabicho, acho que a sua idia totalmente absurda, Pdivento. Ovento que voc mencionou nopassou de uma brisa. Tenho certeza deque a minha idia do que aconteceu mais provvel.

Alm de sua idia ser improvvel, ridculo achar que o nosso rei notenha prendido bem o chapu antes desair para cavalgar.

Vocs dois podem discutir sobre asopinies tolas quanto ao que aconteceucom o chapu do rei. Mas tenho

certeza que sou quem vai ganhar arecompensa que o rei prometeu, disse Contoga. Acontece que seique o rei visitou a me dele ontem noite, e tenho certeza que tirou ochapu enquanto conversava com ela.

My friends, Toshgi politely said, you have eachsuggested likely possibilities about how the kings hatwas lost. I believe that if we take time to humbly listen toone another and work together we will find his hat.

Listen to Dashfoots ideas and help him look for thehat? Beshot asked. What do you thinkI am?A fieldmouse? Imagine me, Beshot the Great, crawling around ina field looking for a hat!

Well, its absurd to think you can just ride your cootangout where the king rode yesterday and quickly spot hishat! Dashfoot shouted back.

On and on they argued, putting down each others ideas.Contog stormed out the door, sure that he was the wisestof the three and eager to search the kings mothers house.Toshgi offered to go with Contog to help him search, butContog didnt want anyone sharing the kings reward withhim, so he declined Toshgis offer.

Right away Beshot left to search the

woods through which the king rodethe day before, and Dashfoot was offto the field. They also declinedToshgis offer to help.

Toshgi was left all alone, saddened byhow his friends had been moreinterested in the offered reward than incounseling and working together tofind the kings hat.

Meus amigos, disse Toshgui educadamente. Cada umde vocs mencionou diferentes possibilidades quanto ao quepode ter acontecido com o chapu do rei.Acredito que separarmos para ouvir uns aos outros e trabalharmos juntoscom humildade, vamos conseguir encontrar o chapu.

Ouvir as idias de Pdivento e ajud-lo a procurar ochapu? perguntou Sabicho. O que acha que sou? Umcamundongo do campo? Imagine s, eu, Sabicho o Grande,arrastando-me por um campo procurando um chapu!

Ora, absurdo pensar que voc possa sair cavalgando noseu Lindaluz por onde o rei cavalgou ontem e acharrapidamente o seu chapu! Pdivento retrucou gritando.

E assim continuaram discutindo, menosprezando osargumentos uns dos outros. Contoga saiu zangado portaafora, certo de que era o mais sbio dentre todos, e ansiosopor procurar na casa da me do rei. Toshgui se ofereceu paraacompanhar Contoga e ajud-lo a procurar, mas Contoga no

queria dividir a recompensa com ningum,ento recusou sua oferta.

Sabicho saiu de imediato para vasculhar afloresta por onde o rei tinha cavalgado no diaanterior, e Pdivento partiu para o campo.Todos recusaram a ajuda de Toshgui.

Toshgui ficou sozinho, entristecido por seusamigos estarem mais interessados narecompensa oferecida do que em se

aconselhar e trabalharem juntos paraencontrarem o chapu do rei.

As Toshgi casually looked about him, he noticed a lumpin the great purple cushion on the kings throne.

That must be uncomfortable for the king to sit on, thoughtToshgi.Ill take a look to see if I can fix it forhim.

As Toshgi lifted up the cushion to smooth out the lump,he noticed that the lump wasnt in the cushion itself, butwas caused by an object under the cushion. He lifted upthe object and looked in wonder as he realized that whathe was holding in his hand was the kings missingpurple hat.

Toshgi smiled, thinking how happy the king would be to

have his hat back again.The following morning all four of the kings counselorswere again in court with the king. Each related to the kingthe story of their great quest, the effort theyeach put into the task of searching for thekings hat. Each of the first three storiesended with how they had failed to find thehat.

Finally it was Toshgis turn. From behindhis back he pulled out the kings favoritepurple hat, washed and reshaped to itsoriginal form. The king was overjoyed andgave Toshgi the reward for finding hishat.

Ao olhar casualmente sua volta, Toshgui reparou uma

salincia na grande almofada que ficava no trono do rei.

ter novamente o seu chapu.

Na manh seguinte, os quatro conselheiros do rei

voltaram presena dele na corte. Cada

um contou a histria de sua busca

grandiosa, do esforo que despenderam

para encontrar o chapu do rei. Mas cada

uma das histrias terminava relatando

que no conseguiram encontrar o chapu.

Finalmente chegou a vez de Toshgui. Ele

tirou de trs das costas o chapu prpura

predileto do rei, j lavado e restaurado

sua forma original. O rei ficou

contentssimo e lhe deu a recompensa por

ter encontrado o chapu.

As they left the palace, the other three counselorssurrounded Toshgi, eager to know where he had foundthe hat. Toshgi humbly recounted his story.

Beshot, Dashfoot, and Contog were silent as they

pondered their recent behavior.

"Dashfoot, I owe you an apology," Beshot said. "Ishouldn't have belittled your thoughts about whatmight have happened to the king's hat.

"Thank you for your apology, Beshot," Dashfootanswered. "But as we all know, the king's hat wasn'tblown off his head, either from the balcony or whenriding his cootang. I also owe each of you an apologyfor being argumentative, and trying to prove I had thebest idea for finding the king's hat.

We all owe Toshgi an apology, said Contog.Toshgi, you tried to get us to listen to each other, butwe were each so concerned about proving we wereright and receiving the promised reward that we didntwant to listen.

We wouldnt even let you help us, because we eachwanted the reward for ourselves, Dashfoot saidto Toshgi.

Ao deixarem o palcio, os outros trs conselheiros cercaramToshgui, ansiosos para saber onde ele tinha encontrado ochapu. Toshgui contou humildemente o quehavia acontecido.

Sabicho, Pdivento e Contoga ficaram em silncio,ponderando como tinham se comportado.

Pdivento, eu lhe devo desculpas disse Sabicho. No devia ter zombado das suas opinies sobre o que podiater acontecido com o chapu do rei.

Obrigado pelo pedido de desculpas, Sabicho

respondeu Pdivento. Mas, como bem sabemos, o chapudo rei no foi arrancado de sua cabea pelo vento, nemquando estava na sacada, nem quando cavalgava no seuLindaluz. Tambm devo desculpas a vocs dois por discutirtanto e tentar provar que a minha idia era a melhor paraencontrar o chapu do rei.

Todos devemos desculpas a Toshgui, disso Contoga.

Toshgui, voc tentou nos fazer ouvir uns aos outros, masestvamos to preocupados em provar quem estava certo eem receber a recompensa que no quisemos ouvi-lo.

Nem quisemos deixar voc nos ajudar, porque queramosganhar a recompensa sozinhos. Disse Pdiventoa Toshgui.
