Message from Mary Vey, Administrative Assistant My Fellow Parishioners, 2020 will be remembered as the year that changed the world. Medical, social & political issues have inundated the daily news feed. Face coverings and social distance has now become the norm. The global pandemic has changed our lives forever. On March 4, New Jersey reported its first COVID-19 related death. By March 18th all schools were ordered closed for what we thought was going to be two weeks. At the same time the five catholic dioceses in New Jersey suspended all services indefinitely. What? No mass, confession, 1st Communion, Confirmation, wedding or funeral permitted!! Our spiritual life was suddenly put on hold. We at Notre Dame de la Mer needed to figure out how to keep our parishioners engaged in their spiritual life without coming into a building. Through trial and error I believe we were successful in bringing Morning Prayer, daily mass, Saturday evening mass, Evening Prayer, rosary and Adoration to your homes through the internet. Our children have been engaged in their religious education through e-books and zoom meetings. COVID-19 prevented the priests from visiting our homebound, however, Father Steve was faithful in reaching out to them via telephone or driving by their home and blessing them from afar. Everyone in the parish office worked tirelessly to make everything appear seamless. The Camden Diocese is slowly permitting the reopening of our churches for mass and services with restrictions. Until four weeks ago funerals were only graveside services with a small number of family members permitted to attend. We are slowly reopening with funerals, confession, adoration & daily in-church masses. Our Sunday masses are outside at Fox Park and Saturday evening is still being live-streamed. Our first wedding is August 15. Of course there are strict limitations for any in-church ser-vices. As I was attending our first funeral mass on July 2, I thought of the many people who have died in the last four months and their families who were deprived of having a “normal” viewing and funeral. It’s hard enough during “normal” times, but, how do you find closure and begin the healing process when you cannot gather together to mourn, celebrate the life of the deceased and console those left behind? I am saddened to hear of our parishioners who died during the pandemic, some without even a mention in the newspaper. One person in particular was a loyal volunteer for the parish. He was an usher and a devoted car raffle volunteer. I will miss our weekly conversations. Reach out to those families who have lost a loved one in the last four months. A simple card, e-mail, call or a visit goes a long way. Be the one who puts a smile on someone else’s face. One day they may return your act of kindness. As we move forward in our reopening process, please follow all of the guidelines. The staff works diligently to ensure the health and welfare of our parishioners and visitors. We anxiously await the time when we will be in church together celebrating mass and all other occasions at full capacity. Have a Blessed Week, Mary Vey

Stewardship
August 2, 2020 Stewardship Multiplies 18th Sunday in Ordinary Time
“Jesus said to them, ‘There is no need for them to go away; give them some food yourselves’.” - M 14:16
This is what Jesus said right before he fed the five thou-sand men. How often do we really place our trust in Jesus when the situation looks grim? With Jesus, gifts of Stewardship are never too small or insignificant when offered with love. But, we have to do our part. We should trust that Jesus will provide all that we need. We need to believe that Jesus has a better plan in store for us.

Parish Information
Holy Hour of Intercession The Youth and Young Adults Office at the Diocese of Camden requested that parishes come together in Intercessory Prayers for our youth. With so many daily distractions and temptations negatively affecting the mind, body, soul and spirit of our young people, it is im-portant that we pray for healthy interactions and correct moral values in their lives. We are therefore providing time each month when parishioners can come together to pray for all children and young adults, as well as all the intentions they hold in their hearts. Our next holy hour will be determined at a later date
(the third Monday of the month),

Jesus told his disciples to feed those in need. Reflect
on how Jesus can feed others through your family. Plan a trip to a soup kitchen. If possible, make arrangements to prepare and serve the food.
How does your family practice hospitality? Discuss
ways that your family can welcome others in need.
Clean out your closets. Most families have an abun-
dance of clothing that is packed in closets and dresser drawers. Have each family member stack that clothing in a box. Together take the boxes to a homeless shelter, Good-will, or any other agency that is in need of clothing.
Share with others the abundance of God’s love. Invite
a guest or another family to share a meal in your home.
Saint Dominic was a priest and teacher, whose wisdom and ability to speak about the faith was legendary. Once on a trip, he and his companion passed through a town in France which was beset by a great heresy of belief. Dominic, feeling kindness toward their host who professed this heresy, spent the whole night in discussion with him. As a result, the man rejected the heresy. It is commonly thought that this was when Dominic recognized what God’s work for him was to be. Following this time, Dominic took the first steps toward establishing a preaching order to become known as the Dominicans who helped stop heresy throughout the Church. Dominic was known not only as a great preacher, but also as a gentle, charitable, and humble person.
Dominic had great faith in God. With this gift, he was able to turn back a heresy and perform miracles. God has given the same gift to each of us and if we strengthen that faith, anything is possible to us. As Jesus told us, “if your faith is the size of a mustard seed...nothing will be impossible for you." (Mt 17:20)
