Handle cartridges gently and avoid touching anymetallic parts. Store cartridges at roomtemperature ina sealed plastic baggie.

Cartridges with a printhead should be stored asfollowed: after refilling, dab the head clean with a softtissue or paper towel that has been soaked withCartridge & Print Head Cleaner. Once you are ready touse the stored cartridge, remove any dried ink using thesame method .

Should the cartridge be resting on a paper towel to catch anydripping ink the printhead can touch the paper towel. Do notallow the printhead to remain on the towel longer than two

minutes. This will prevent a wicking effect which causes yourcartridge to drain.

If you are refilling a Hewlett Packardor Lexmarkcolor cartridge: be aware that the original color of thesponge is white.

In order to avoid overfilling the cartridge do not changethe color of the sponge to the color you are filling.When the ink just begins to surface where the needle isinserted, stop filling, the cartridge is full.

General Tips Cont

Remove cartridge fromprinter before refilling.

To avoid mishaps, refill your cartridge over a protected

surface such as a kitchen sink or work bench.

In order to fill syringe, remove protective plastic coverfromthe needle and insert through the silver seal onthe bottle. Slowly pull up on the plunger and withdrawthe ink fromthe bottle.

For best results refill a cartridge before it is empty. Itis not recommended that you refill a cartridge that hasbeen emptied for longer than 2 weeks. The sponge will

dry out and will not absorb ink properly and thecartridge may leak.

Make certain not to put the wrong color ink into thewrong color chamber. You can identify the color in achamber by inserting the syringe into the chamber andwithdrawing a small amount of ink to verify the color.Remember Magenta is the technical name for Red andCyan is the technical name for Blue.

Its recommended to back off or extract a small amountof ink once the cartridge has become full when filling acartridge that contains a sponge. You want the spongeto be soaked with ink but not floating in ink. I tsbetter to under fill slightly than to overfill.

Keep a cartridge fromdrying out. This will prevent theprint head from damage or burning out and it alsoprevents deterioration.

5. Attach the needle to the syringe and fill withink.

6. The cartridge should now be placed in anupright position on a paper towel and filledwith 20 ml. of ink through the filling hole.

7. Reseal the filling hole with the plug includedand remove the tape fromAperature "B".

Import ant : The print head can t ouch the paper t owelwhen lett ing t he cart ridge rest on a paper t owel t o

catch drippings. The print head should not t o remain on t he towel formore than two minutes. This will prevent t he wicking effect which willempty your cart ridge.

8. ( Opt ional - This step preparesan older cart ridge forrefilling.)Lay the cartridge on

its side and inject 1/4 ml. ofCartridge & Print Head Cleanerinto (Aperture "C"). Leavecartridge on its side forapproximately 30 minutes.

9. Now remove the tape over(Aperture "C"), ink will nowdrip fromthe nozzles. Blot thenozzles with the tissue until inkstops dripping.

10. Rinse the syringe with water and dry forfuture use.

11. Reinsert cartridge into printer and runseveral test cycles until print quality isrestored. Not e: All owing the cart ridge timet o repressurize by having it sit overnightwill restore print qualit y.

Note: Immediately refill any emptycartr idges.

If your cartridge has been sitting empty for any length of time follow thisprocedure before refi lli ng, for maximum result s.

A. Firmly place a piece of tape overAperature C on the bottom of

the cartridge - see diagram onbottom of the next page. Usingthe following refill ing procedure,insert 10 ml. of Cartridge & PrintHead Cleaner int o the cartridgeand swirl around. And allow itsoak over night.

B. Remove the tape over (ApertureC) in order to drain the solvent

and proceed refilli ng with ink.

1. This cartridge is regulated by an aerator (Aperture "C") as shown on thebottomof the next page. This must be sealed air tight to prevent any ink fromleaking while you are refilling. Use adhesive tape to seal this aperture.

2. The older cartridges had a filling hole on the top sealed by a plastic orstainless steel ball bearing, as shown in photo above right. This must beremoved by pushing it into the cartridge using a pointed object such as a ballpoint pen. IMPORTANT: The aperture in t he center of t he top ( Apert ure B,see above) must NOT be pierced.

NOTE: New versions of t his cart ridge do not havet his ball bearing therefore an 1/ 8" hole / 3mmmust be made in t he same positi on shown. Youcan use an Exacto Knif e, Ut il it y Knife, DrillBit or t he eyelet screw included in the kit t omake thi s hole. This hole must be madeperfectl y round.

3. Using the included priming bottle, graspit firmly and hold it squeezed flat. Insert thesqueezed bottle snuggly into the cartridgefilling hole. Let go of the bottle so that itinflates with air. This will withdraw the airfrom inside the cartridge. Note: Do notremove the bott le yet.

4. With the bottle still inside the fillinghole, seal up the top of Aperture B using apiece of tape. Then remove the primingbottle fromthe filling hole.

1. Turn the cartridge upside down.Using a pointed instrument pushthrough the plastic filmand push inthe ball bearing which seals thefilling hole.

2. Attach the needle to the syringeand fill with the correct color ink.

3. Inject 20 ml. of ink slowly into thefilling hole. Unused ink may bereturned to the bottle.

4. Seal the filling hole by squeezing the cartridge sides firmly and

inserting the inlcuded plug, ensuring that the plug is pushed firmly in.(Ink will leak fromthe print head).

5. Allow cartridge to stand with the print head down for 2 minutes todraw out any excess ink and equalize the pressure in the cartridge.

Important : If t he cartri dge rest s on apaper towel to catch drippings, theprint head can touch t he paper towel.Do not al low t he print head to remainon the towel for more than twominutes. This will prevent the wicking

eff ect whi ch will empt y your cart ridge.

6. Rinse the syringe with warmwater and drybetween each color refill or store for further

use.

7. Reinsert the cartridge and run a priming cycle asper printer instructions.

Note: Immediat ely refil l any empty cartr idges.

1. To locate the filler hole of thecartridge you must remove theplastic cover. This cover must beremove before refilling it with ink

by carefully prying it off with athin metal blade, such as a thinflathead screwdriver.

Another method is to lay thecartridge on its side, and grasp itfirmly then break the seal bystriking it with a blunt object.

Important : Make certain t hat t hesensors on t he back of t hecart ridge do not get damaged.

2. Attach the filling needle to the syringe and fill with the propercolor of ink.

3. Insert the filling needle into the corresponding hole of the colorto be refilled, (see diagramabove) and push as far down into thecartridge. Note: You may feel a slight pressure by t he spongeinside the cart ridge.

4. Inject approximately 7 ml. of ink slowly into cartridge and stopwhen the ink begins to surface.

Import ant : The sponge inside is whit e. And in order t o preventoverf ill ing t he chamber, t he color of t he sponge must remain

whit e. As soon as the ink start s to bubble near t he needle thenst op inject ing, t he cart ridge is full.

5. Rinse the syringe and needle with water and dry between eachcolor refilling or store for further use.

6. The cover can be remounted securely with a piece of adhesivetape.

Note: Immediat ely refil l any cart ridge that has gone empt y.

Black &Color Cartridges1. Cut label at joint between top andbottomcap of cartridge case.

2. Flip back bottomcap of cartridge.

3. Squeeze sides of cartridge case andcarefully wiggle out mylar ink bag andpump assembly fromthe insert lock.

4. Screw the eyelet screw into the center of the rubber sealing plug,(situated in the filling hole) until a firm grip is made and pull out theplug. (Keep the plug on the end of the eyelet screw).

5. Inject the ink through the filling holeinto the mylar ink bag. (Do not insert theneedle more than 1/2" into the bag or elsethe mylar ink bag may be punctured).

6. Fill with ink until ink appears at the

bottomof the filling hole and then resealby pushing back in the rubber plug. (Pushin with the plug on the end of the screw and

then remove the screw fromthe plug).

7. Remove the excess air from the mylar ink bag and pump assembly asfollows:

A. Hold assembly at a 45angle wit h outl et holet ube at the top.

B. Insert needle of empty inject or( wit h plunger pushed in) int o outlethole tube.

C. Press and release pump severaltimes which will expel air into thesyringe.

D. Pull back the plunger on the syringe to remove any air from theoutl et hole t ube and then withdraw t he needle.

7. Replace the mylar ink bag assembly into the cartridge case and clip thebottomback into position.

8. Install the cartridge back into printer.

Note: Immediat ely refil l any empt y cart ridges.

Color Cartridge1. The filling holes are on the top of the cartridge and have

small plastic sealing plugs in them. Theplugs need to be removed before

refilling. Remove them by pushingthem into the cartridge using a ballpoint pen or other object.

2. Assemble the filling needle andsyringe and fill with the color ink youare going to fill.

3. Insert the needle into the f illing holeof the color you are refilling, (see

Black & Color Cartridges1. Use a piece of tape to seal the outlethole(s) in the base of the cartridge. Itis recommended to use a separate

piece over each hole.

2. Attach the needle to the syringeand fill with the appropriate color ink.

3. Push needle through the label all the wayinto the cartridge of the proper filling hole. Veryslowly inject ink into the sponge until the cartridge is full. (Thiswill saturate the sponge with ink and refill the reservoir).

4. Use adhesive tape to seal the hole(s) made in the top label.

Note: The cart ridge will leak if t he holes are not sealed properly.

5. Unused ink may be returned to thebottle. Rinse the syringe with waterand dry between each color refill orstore for further use.

6. Reinsert the cartridge leaving theadhesive tape on the outlet hole(s)and run 1 - 3 cleaning cycles as per

printer instructions. I f necessary leavecartridge in printer for up to 24 hours to

allow ink to flow to the print head.

NOTE: This ti me is great ly reduced if t he cart ri dge refil led beforeit is completely empt y.

1. Remove the mylar ink bag from the cardboard sleeve. Not e:( This mylar ink bag i s very delicate and must be handled wit hcare) .

2. Use both hands when grasping thetop of the mylar bag and use boththumbs to pry the hose cap assemblyoff of the connector. ( Pop off t heconnector t he same way you wouldpry off t he cap of an aspiri n bott le.Be very careful not t o damage t he

connect or) . Make certain not to misplace or damage the o-ring.It must be in the same position shown below before the hose capassembly can be reinstalled.

3. Attach the needle to the syringe

and fill with ink.

4. Holding the bag upright injectup to 60 ml of ink or until 3/4 full.Do not fill completely because youneed roomto install the hose capassembly.Note: ( After refill ing donot squeeze t he mylar bag as inkwill squirt out of t he connect or) .

5. Again, hold the top of the mylar bag and using both thumbs

reinstall the hose cap assembly. You can grasp the block at the basewhere the assembly is installed into the mylar bag. Make sure thehose cap assembly is firmly attached to the connector. You will feeltwo clicks when reinstalling the hose cap assembly.

6. Install the mylar bag into the cardboard sleeve and install intomachine.

Not e: Empty cart ridges should be refi ll ed immediat ely.

Photo Color Cartridge1. To locate the filler hole of the cartridge you must remove the plastic cover. This cover must beremoved before refilling it with ink by carefully prying it off with a thin metal blade, such as autility knife. Importan t: Be very careful not to damage the sensors on the back of t he cartridge.

2. Attach the needle point to the syringe and fill with the correct color ink.

3. Insert the filling needle into the corresponding hole of thecolor to be refilled, (see diagram) and push as far downinto the cartridge. Note: The cartri dge contains asponge and a slight resistance may be felt .

4. Slowly inject approximately 8 ml. of ink or until thesponge is drenched with ink. Import ant: The spongeinside the cartri dge is white. And in order to preventoverfilling the cartridge, the color of the spongeshould remain white. As soon as the ink start s tobubble near the needle then stop injecting ink, thecartridge is full.

5. Rinse the syringe and needle with water and drybefore refilling with another color or store for furtheruse.

2. Attach the filling needle to the syringe and fill with the propercolor of ink.

3. Using the needle, puncture a filling hole into the label of the

color that you are refilling and push as far down as possible. I njectthe ink slowly into the chamber so that it soaks the sponge andfills the chamber. (The sponge will fill with ink and also refill thereservoir).

4. Put a piece of tape over the holes that were punctured on thelabel. Note: The cartridge will leak if the holes are not sealedproperly.

5. Any unused ink can be return to the correct bottle. Rinse the syringeand needle with water between each color refilling and dry for further use.

6. Leave the adhesive tape on the outlet hole(s) and reinsert the cartridgethen run 1 - 3 cleaning cycles as per printer instructions. It may benecessary to leave cartridge in printer for up to 24 hours. (This will allowthe ink time to flow to the print head).

NOTE: If cartridge is refill ed before it is completely empty t his time is

greatly reduced.

Photo Color CartridgeImportant: This photo cartridge is the only cartridge that contains

a light yellow ink (see diagrambelow). When refilling thiscartridge you can put standard yellowink into the light yellowchamber. The difference in color print quality output isnegligible.

1. To reveal the filling holes, peel back the label on the top ofcartridge, as shown below.

2. Use the eyelet screw included in the kit to enlarge the 6 filling holes.

3. Attach the needle point to the syringe andfill with ink, insert the filling needle into thecorresponding filling hole and push as far down

into the cartridge as possible. Note: Thecartridge contains a sponge and will not r eadily accept t heneedle. Inject up to 10 ml. of ink into the sponge, slowlyuntil the chamber is full. You will know when it is fullbecause some ink may overflow fromthe filling and outletholes.

4. To seal the enlarged filling holes(s) in the cartridge eitherrefix the label or use adhesive tape.

5. Any unused ink may be returned to the bottle. Rinse thesyringe with water and dry between each use and when usingwith a different color ink.

Note: Empty cart ridges should be refi lled immediately.

Analternative method is to lay the cartridge on its side, grasp it firmly, and strike the cover with a bluntinstrument to break its seal. Important : Be very careful not t o damagethe sensors on the back of the cartri dge.

2. Attach the needle point to the syringe and fill with the correctcolor ink.

3. Insert the filling needle into the corresponding hole of the colorto be refilled, (see diagram) and push as far down into thecartridge. Note: The cart ridg e contains a sponge and a sli ghtresistance may be felt .

4. Slowly inject up to 7 ml. of ink or until the ink surfaces near thefilling hole.

Import ant: The original color of t he sponge is white. In order t oavoid overfilli ng the cartridge do not change the color of thesponge to t he color of i nk you are injecti ng. When the ink beginsto surface near t he needle, stop fill ing, the cartri dge is full.

5. Thoroughly rinse the syringe with water make sure to rinse theneedle point, as well, and dry out the tube before refilling anothercolor.

6. Reattach the plastic cover using adhesive tape making certain that it is secure.

Note: Empty cart ridges should be refi lled immediately.

Fill the syringe with 2 ml. of Cartridge & Print Head Cleaner and squirtthe Cartridge &Print Head Cleaner onto the print head over the sink.Do not touch the print head with the needle point. The dried ink willimmediately solubilize and wash away. Let it air dry and reinsert intothe printer.

Pour a of Cartridge & Print Head Cleaner in a container and let thecartridge soak. (Use a cup in the size of a coffee mug this procedure).Allow it to air dry and reinstall into printer and run a cleaning cycle asper the printer instructions.

Apply a small amount of Cartridge & Print Head Cleaner onto a papertowel or soft tissue next sit the print head directly where the Cartridge& Print Head Cleaner was applied. Allow the cartridge to sit for 2minutes and then dab it dry with a clean tissue. To avoid damaging theprinthead do not to rub the print head on the paper towel in anymanner.

Prior to every third refill, inject 1/2-2 mL of Cartridge & Print HeadCleaner (depending on the size of the cartridge), in order to prolong thelife of the sponge inside the cartridge. Also, adding the flush beforeeach refill solubilizes the trapped residue andprevents the sponge fromcollecting excess ink.

If a cartridge has been unused, left empty or stored for a long period oftime, the nozzles may become clogged with dried ink residue. Nozzles andprintheads are extremely delicate and sensitive and can be damaged easilyif any material other than a specifically formulated solvent is used to cleanthem.

Allow print heads to soak in the Cartridge & Printhead Cleaner to refresh theprint nozzles and help restore print quality.

This Universal Cartridge & Printhead Cleaner offers an inexpensive costmethod for cleaning print heads and priming print cartridges for refills. Thisis useful for those who have mono printers who wish to refill their existingblack cartridge with a single color to enable color printing. The Cartridge &Print Head cleaner is simply injected into the cartridge in the same fashionas you would inject the ink and then withdrawn back out until all ink isremoved.
