Objectivos Gerais (1000 caracteres): Objectives: A cadeira vai introduzir alguns classicos da literatura e cultura portuguesa, atraves de leituras, palestras, semanários, visitas de estudo em Lisboa e conversas em Ingles.

This course will explore outstanding works of Portuguese literature and culture, with readings, lectures, class visits in Lisbon and discussions in English.

Objectivos de Aprendizagem: Learning outcomes: No final do programa da UC, os alunos estarão aptos a:

• Compreender os principais livros ensinados na cadeira

• Compreender e explicar como estes livros reflectem a identidade e cultura Portuguesa e/ou como servem como uma critica a essas identidades e referencias culturais.

• Discutir e explicar os contextos políticos e sociais em que estes escritores estavam a trabalhar e como as suas preocupacoes e temas se reflectiram na sociedade portuguesa e/ou Europeia daquele periodo.

Upon completion of the course, students should be able: • To be familiar with the main literary works of art covered in the course. • To understand and explain how these literary texts reflect different aspects and epochs of Portuguese culture and identity, or how they present a critique of certain aspects of that culture/identity. • To be able to discuss and explain the political and social context in which these writers were working and how their preoccupations/themes reflected Portuguese and/or European societies of their day.

Organized from chronological and thematic perspectives, the syllabus covers several Portuguese Literature configurations and provides a long-run approach to their main facets.

• Testes intermédios (30%; 10%

• Participação em sala de aula (20%) - baseado na qualidade das intervenções em sala de aula e visitas de estudo. Assiduidade é requisito fundamental.

A demonstração da coerência entre os métodos de ensino e os objetivos de aprendizagem da UC encontra-se na estreita relação entre os temas, materiais de trabalho e uma metodologia de ensino com base na leitura crítica, debate coletivo e escrita individual, elementos que reforçam a transmissão e assimilação dos conteúdos.

The demonstration of consistency between the teaching methods and objectives of the course lies in the close relation between themes, working materials and a teaching methodology - based on critical reading, collective debate, and individual writing - that reinforces the transmission and assimilation of the courses’ content.

Observações: Observations: O/A Professor/a desta UC é contratado pelo programa de study abroad SiPN, os critério de escolha do docente baseia-se em grande parte na familiaridade com o estilo de ensino e processos pedagógicos utilizadas nos EUA.
