DNA barcoding of Neotropical Simuliidae
1040 specimens analyzed
76 species
Mean intraspecific genetic divergence for well-established species was 1.01%
Fifteen species had maximum intraspecificdivergence higher than 2.5% (species complex)
Up to date:
-
DNA barcoding of Neotropical Simuliidae
More 150 specimens being sequenced10 new species added in the BOLD database
10 days agos we spent 2 weeks in Mexico collecting aquatic insects in the Southern region. We have more 15 new species of Simuliidae to be added in the BOLD database.
-
DNA barcoding of Neotropical Simuliidae
Totally, we have more than 100 species of
Neotropical black flies (about 1/3 of all species
recorded for this biogeographic realm).
