ABT
2Bridge CAD is software intended for bridge engineering
applications. Present version of Bridge CADcontains
set of two cooperating with each other modules: ABT
for abutment structures and KXGfor foundation piles.
Work method

ABT Interface leads user intuitively through abutment definition process. Necessary data is
inputted to graphical interfaces. To make this task easy interfaces are equipped with
graphics and described variables.
Foundation methods
ABTprovide two main foundation methods: piles and direct foundation. Bridge CADcontains
KXGmodule which export foundation pile definition data toABT.

44Loads transfer
ABT enable import of support reactions separately for every load from deck model data base
to abutment model. Its the easiest and fastest way to transform loads. Subsequently user
can calculate envelopes taking into consideration all loads on the abutment.
Flexibility
User can freely modify input data file of abutment to make changes in computational model
by using methods provided by SOFiSTiK. Changes may be executed by modifications of
generated *.dat file in every part like: geometry, foundation, loads etc.
ABT output file
ABT produce output file with defined abutment geometry and its all loads. This part of
abutment design work is most time taking. Later in SOFiSTiK user can in fast and easy way
finish task by defining combinations and design calculations according to specified code.
With ABT abutment design can be faster; therefore designer can spend more time to
optimize the structure.

Work method
KXG calculates the features of the co-operation of any subsoil with foundation piles. Program
generates a structure of horizontal spring supports arranged along the axis of piles and
vertical spring support below base of piles.

KXG Interface leads user intuitively through pile stiffness calculation. Soils definition is
currently presented graphically on soil profile.
Scheme of pile foundation
KXG includes an innovative scheme of pile foundation which allows calculating the stiffness
of pile for several directions of the horizontal load and for different pile spacing. The scheme
is used to generate the authentic pile arrangementin the designed foundation.

77Results printout
KXG allows printing results of both horizontal and vertical stiffness of pile and maximum
horizontal soil response. Scope of printout includes both sections of the calculations i.e. the
graphic and text parts for each pile and direction of the horizontal load.
KXG data export
KXG allows exporting results of performed calculations. On the basis of the foundation
scheme user defines average soil stiffness and easily transfers data to ATB (cooperating both
modules).
WithKXG deep foundation design can be faster; therefore designer can analyze abutment
together with pile foundation.
