Saudações,

O fim-de-semana da Festa foi um imenso sucesso, graças a Deus! Peço que se juntem a mim a agradecer a Deus por nos ter abençoado com o tempo que tivemos. A nossa fé católica e as nossas tradições Portuguesas são maravilhosas, especialmen-te quando são unidas. A procissão, por-exemplo é simples, mas é um profundo acto de fé, ao contrário a uma “mostra” da nos-sa fé é sempre representada antes, depois e entre tudo neste mundo secular. Foi uma alegria ver a Igreja cheia nas celebra-ções litúrgicas. De sexta-feira até domingo estava presente mui-ta gente tomando parte das festividades. Sábado e domingo foram extraordinárias com o número de pessoas presente.

Muito obrigado a todos que participaram duma maneira ou outra no fim de semana, desde a procissão, à liturgia ou mesmo só a disfrutar da festa. Se não fosse pelo esforço, trabalho in-cansável e grande dedicação de muitos voluntários esta festa não seria possível. Obrigado a Philip Chaves que dirigi as festividades e que devemos um grando agradeci-mento, também a Eduardo e Lucilia Sousa, conti-nuando no seu compromisso de ajudar a paró-quia, e a restante comissão de festas, aos se-nhores que vieram com toda disponibilidade de fixar os postos, o andor, etc., à senhora Cinira e sua família de São Miguel, e todos os ajudantes na cozinha que trabalharam incansávelmente, aos homens nos grelha-dores e no bar; ao Al e Hilda Domingos, Sra. Simas e a todos os que venderam todos os bilhetes da rifa, a Tony Pereira e sua fa-mília que contribuiram no bazar e a todos os que contribuiram com ofertas para o mesmo. A Festa de Santo António esta perto, nos dias 13 e 14 de Juhno. O Dom Edgar da Cunha de Fall River será o pregador na Missa ao meio-dia e o sermão depois da procissão.

Finalmente, vamos ter uma Procissão da Eucaristia no Domin-go, dia 7 de Junho logo a seguir à Missa das 11:30am, se o tem-po permitir, terminando com a Benção do Santíssimo. A Pro-cissão Eucaristíca é a primeira Procissão e como tal, a Mãe e a mais importante de todas as Procissões. É a partir desta Procis-são e desta celebração que se seguem todas as outras manifesta-ções.

This past weekend was a tremendous success, thanks be to God! Even the weather cooperated! Please join me in Thanks-giving to the Lord for granting us the weather we had. The weekend was a great success because of your presence. Our Catholic as well as our Portuguese traditions are wonderful, especially when they are combined. A procession, for example, is a simple, but profound act of faith to “show” our faith in front of and in the midst of such a secular world. The entire feast weekend seems to have been a spectacular success. It was such an utter joy to see the church filled for the liturgical cele-brations. Each time I went into the hall it seemed to have been packed with people. I saw food moving out of the kitchen fast-paced and non-stop on Saturday night and on Sunday evening.

Thank you sincerely to every one of you who participated in any way during this weekend. I would be terribly remiss in not

mentioning those who really make these festivities a success. If it were not for the hard work, dedication

and devotion of all the many volunteers the feast would not be possible. Thank you again to Phil-

ip Chaves who coordinated the feast. We also thank Eddy & Lucy Sousa continuing to fulfill their promise of helping, the Feast Commit-tee. Thanks also to the men who put up the posts and the “andor;” Sra. Cinira, and the kitchen staff who worked tirelessly; the men on the grills and the bar; Al & Hilda Domin-gos and the many of you who sold every single raffle booklet, Tony Pereira and his

family for the Bazaar and those who contrib-uted gifts; Luis Travassos, Dorothy Chaves,

Philip Chaves and those who assisted in all the liturgies and all who helped in any and many ways.

Thank you to Lidia Silva and Dorothy Chaves who carefully arranged the andor. Thank you to Lucy Sousa

and Mariazinha Sousa for putting together the display in the chapel of the various “capas” of Santo Cristo. The Feast in honor of our patron, Saint Anthony of Lisbon will be celebrated on Saturday, June 13th and Sunday, June 14th. Bishop Edgar da Cunha from Fall River will be the presider during the Mass at Noon on Sunday, June 15th and the sermon following the procession.

Finally, we are having a Eucharistic Procession on Sunday, June 7th after the 11:30 Mass, weather permitting. Please join us to celebrate the Eucharist in this most solemn manner. The Eu-charistic Procession is the first and therefore mother of and most important of ALL processions. It is from this one that all other public religious manifestations and processions flow.

Pentecost (Cycle B) The giving of the Spirit to the new people of God crowns the mighty acts of the Father in salvation histo-ry. The Jewish feast of Pentecost called all devout Jews to Jerusalem to celebrate their birth as God's chosen people, in the covenant Law given to Moses at Sinai (see Leviticus 23:15-21; Deuteronomy 16:9-11). In today's First Reading the mysteries prefigured in that feast are fulfilled in the pouring out of the Spirit on Mary and the Apostles (see Acts 1:14). The Spirit seals the new law and new covenant brought by Jesus, written not on stone tablets but on the hearts of believers, as the prophets promised (see Jeremiah 31:31-34; 2 Corinthians 3:2-8; Romans 8:2). The Spirit is revealed as the life-giving breath of the Father, the Wisdom by which He made all things, as we sing in to-day's Psalm. In the beginning, the Spirit came as a "mighty wind" sweeping over the face of the earth (see Genesis 1:2). And in the new creation of Pentecost, the Spirit again comes as "a strong, driving wind" to renew the face of the earth. As God fashioned the first man out of dust and filled him with His Spirit (see Genesis 2:7), in today's Gospel we see the New Adam become a life-giving Spirit, breathing new life into the Apostles (see 1 Corinthians 15:45,47). Like a river of living water, for all ages He will pour out His Spirit on His body, the Church, as we hear in to-day's Epistle (see also John 7:37-39). We receive that Spirit in the sacraments, being made a "new creation" in Baptism (see 2 Corinthians 5:17; Galatians 6:15).
