OVERVIEW The Motorola DRC450 universal remote will control up to four devices,including Motorola's interactive digital terminals*, most TVs,VCRs, Amplifiers, DVD players, PVRs, Tuners,and CD p layers. *NOT E:Digitalmodelsincludethe DCT1000, DCT1200,DCT170 0,DCT2000,DCT2500,and DCT5100.TheDRC450canalsocontrololder  Motor olaanalogmodelslike theCT1900, CFT2100,CFT2200 ,and CFT3300. The DRC450 requires two new AA alkaline batteries (included) and has easy programming to control your Motorola interactive digital terminal, as well as all ofthe basic functions ofyour other original remote controls.Moreover, the DRC450 helps eliminate the need to use multiple remote controls. For best results,please read and perform all instructions listed herein.Also,keep these instructions for future reference. FEATURES AND FUNCTIONS Use the DRC450 mode keys (i.e., AUDIO, VCR/DVD, CABLE,or TV) to control a specificdevice.Whenpressed,the selected mode key will light,confirming your choice.Use the other keys to per- form desired actions (see the following key chart).  NOTE:Theselectedmodewill remainactiv e untilyoupressanothermodekey. PressAUDIO, VCR/DVD, CABLE,or TV once to control a device. PressPOWERonce to turn on or offthe selected home enter- tainment device. PressHELP once to display the help screen. PressMUTE once to turn sound offor on. UsePAGE L(orPAGE M) to page up (or down) through menu screens and the electronic programguide. UseLOCK**to restrict viewing ofselected programs (Parental Control). UseEXIT to exit menu or guide. UseINFO to display current channel and program information. Usethesekeys tomove the cursorin the elec- tronic program guide and menu screens. UseOK**tochosemenu options,PPV events, and to tune programs from the electronic program guide. UseGUIDE to display the electronic program guide. UseMENU to display the main menu. In TV or CABLEmode, use VOLUME + (or VOLUME-) to raise (or lower) sound volume. UseCHANNEL + (or CHANNEL -) to select the next higher (or lower) channel. UseLAST to recall last channel or go back one screen in the menu. In the CABLE mode, press FAVORITE once to display programmed favorite cable channels. These functions are set by your cable system operator. Use the keypad (0 ~ 9) to directly select the channels (e.g.,09 or 031). Press TV/VCR BYPASS once to switch VCR to view TV or tape (not supported by all applications). UseENTER/MUSIC to display menu ofdigital music channels,or to enter channels on some TV models. In the VCR/DVD and TV modes,use the STOP, PAUSE, PLAY, REW., and F.FWD. keys to control a VCR (or DVD player). To record a program on a VCR, press RECORD once. INSTALLING BATTERIES 1. On th e DR C450’ s bac k,pull b ack the battery cover and remove it. 2. Use t he tw o (2) s upp lied fully - chargedAAalkalinebatteries. Match their + and - marks to the + and - marks in the battery case, then insert the batteries. 3. Push the batt ery c over bac k into place. 4. Te st t he un it b y pr essin g POWER and any mode key (e.g., AUDIO, VCR/DVD, CABLE,or TV).If the batteriesareinserted correctly ,the selected mode key will be lit.  NOTE:Whenaselectedmode keyblinkstwo timeswitheachkey press,thisindica testhat thebatteriesaregettinglow.Replacethem within20minutes;otherwisetheDRC450may loseitssettingsand requir ereprogrammin g. PROGRAMMING A SPECIFIC DEVICE CONTROL The DRC450 is preprogrammed at the factory to operate a RCA TV and VCR (or DVD player),a Motorola (General Instrument)interactivedigitalterminal, and a Pioneer audio device. To control devices other than the default brands, perform the following steps;otherwise skip this section:  NOTE:Forprogramm ingTV/VCRCombo contro l,see thenextsection. 1. Tu rn on a devic e (e. g.,VC R) and ,if applica ble, insert media, (e.g., cassette or disc).  NOTE:Pleasereadsteps2-4 comple tely beforeproceedi ng.Highligh tor write downthecodes anddeviceyou wishto  progra mbefore movingonto step2. 2. For f utur e ref eren ce,writ e yo ur device codes in the boxes below: TV/VCR Combo Code: TV Code (if used): SEARCHING FOR YOUR CODE If your home entertainement device does not respond to the DRC450 after trying all of the codes listed for your brand,or if your brand is not listed at all,try searching for your code. For example,after trying all of the codes for your TV,you still cannot get the DRC450 to operate your TV,then: 1. Turn on y our TV . 2. On t he D RC45 0,pres s an d ho ld TV (at least 6 seconds) until you see the programming mode start.Each ofthe mode key lights will turn off and on sequentially,starting with AUDIO on through TV,and the sequencewillrepeattwice.During thistime,release TV and wait until it’s lit continuously. 3. Pr es s th e (Up) cursor key once to start the search mode.  NOTE:Inthesearchmode,the DRC45 0 willsen dIRcodesfromitslibr arytothe selectedcompo nent,starti ngwith the mostpopula rcodes first.Whenthe devicerespondstoa subsequ entkey comma nd(e.g., POWER  ),the correct devicecodewill befound. 4. Press POWER once.The TV key will light on and off,showing that an IR code has been sent. 5. Ifyour t elevi sion does not t urn o ff, press the (Up) cursor key once again to call up the next IR code and press POWERonce again. 6. Ifyour t elevi sion still doesnot turn off,repeat step 5 as many times as needed until your TV turns off. 7. Whe n you r tele visio n does t urn off , a working code has been found. Press OK once to save the code and the TV key will blink three times, confirming the selection. 8. To sear ch f or th e cod es ofyour other devices,repeat steps 1 through 7,but substitute the appropriate mode key (i.e., VCR/DVD, CABLE, or AUDIO) for the device you are searching for. CHECKING THE CODES If you have set up the DRC450 using the Searching For Your Code procedure,you may need to find out which four-digit code is operating your equipment. Perform the following procedure after you have set up your devices to find out which four-digit code is operating your equipment .For example,to find out which code is operating your TV: 1. Turn on y our TV . 2. On t he D RC450,press and holdTV (at least 6 seconds) until you see the mode light sequence start. Each ofthe mode key lights will turn off and on sequentially ,start- ing with AUDIOon through TV,and will repeat twice.During the sequence,releasethe TV key and wait until it stays lit continually. 3. Press 9 - 9 - 0.The TV key will blink three times. 4. To v iew th e cod e for t he firs t digi t, press and release 1.Count the number of TV key blinks (e.g.,3 blinks =3) and write down the number in the leftmost TV code box in step 6 of Programming Device Control .  NO TE:Themod ekeywillnotblinkif thecodedig itisa“0”. 5. Repe at st ep 4 th ree mo re times for each successive digit by pressing and releasing 2, 3,and then 4. Finish writing down the TV code in the remaining TV code boxes. 6. To che ck f or t he c odes ofyour other devices,repeat steps 1 through 5,only substitute the appropriate mode key (i.e., VCR/DVD, CABLE, or AUDIO) for the device you are checking.Write down the codes in the appropriate device code boxes (see step 6 of Programming Device Control ). CHANGING VOLUME LOCK Your new DRC450 is set to control the volume ofa device through its associated mode(i.e., through t he Motorola interactive digital terminal in the Cable mode,through the TV in the TV mode, through the VCRor DVD player in the VCR/DVD mode,an d through the audio device in the Audio mod e).If your TV is not remote control lable,or if you would like the volume to be controlled by a dif- ferent device, you can change the Volume Lock setting to control a volume through anon-associatedmode(e.g., through the Motorola interactive digital terminal in the TV mode). Changing the Volume Lock setting to the Cable,VCR/D VD,or TV mode will change the volume control for all modes except Aud io, which will continue to control its own volume.If you change the Volume Lock setting to the Audio mode,all modes (i.e.,Audio.,Cable, VCR/DVD ,and TV) will be contro lled by the Audio mode. To Change The Volume Lock Setting To Another Mode: 1. On th e DR C450 ,press and h old a mode key (i.e., AUDIO, VCR/DVD, CABLE,or TV) for at least 6 seconds, until you see the programming mode start. Each mode key light will turn off and on sequentially , startingwith AUDIO on through TV, and the sequence will repeat twice. At this time,release the mode key and wait until it’s lit continuously. 2. Pre ss and re lea seVOLUME +. 3. The mode k ey’ s ligh t will blink three times,indicating volume has been locked to the selected mode. 4. Now ,whenev er you pre ss VOLU ME+, VOLUME -,or MUTE on the DRC450,volume will be controlled by selected mode, independent ofthe current mode. To Unlock Volume Lock: 1. On the DR C450,p ress and h old a mode key (at least 6 seconds) until you see the programming mode start.Each mode key light will turn offand on sequentially ,starting withAUDIO on through TV,and the sequence will repeat twice.During this time, release the mode key and wait until it’s lit continuously. 2. Pre ss and re lea seVOLUME -. 3. The mode ke y ligh t will blink three times,indicating volume has been unlocked for the selected mode. 4. Now ,whenev er you pre ss VOLU ME+, VOLUME -,or MUTE on theDRC450,the volumecontrols will reset to their original device. TROUBLESHOOTING PRO BLEM: A mode key d oes no t blink or blinks 2 times when you press a key. SOLUTION: Replace the ba tteries with two (2) new AA alkaline batteries. PROBLEM: A mode k ey blin ks whe n you press a key,but home entertainment component does not respond. SOLUTION: Make s ure th e DRC450 is aimed at your home entertainmen t device and is not farther than 15 feet away. contin uedon back... INSTALLING BATTERIES

1. On the DRC450’s back,pull backthe battery cover and remove it.

2. Use the two (2) supplied fully-charged AA alkaline batteries.Match their + and -marks to the+ and - marks in the battery case,then insert the batteries.

3. Push the battery cover backinto place.

4. Test the unit by pressing POWERand any mode key (e.g., AUDIO,VCR/DVD, CABLE,or TV).If thebatteries are inserted correctly,theselected mode key will be lit.

 NOTE:Whenaselectedmode keyblinkstwotimeswitheachkey press,thisindicatesthat thebatteriesaregettinglow.Replacethemwithin20minutes;otherwisetheDRC450mayloseitssettingsand requirereprogramming.

PROGRAMMING A SPECIFICDEVICE CONTROL

5. Aim the DRC450 at your deviceand press POWERonce.The deviceshould turn off.If it does notrespond,repeat steps 2-4,tryingeach code listed for your branduntil you find one that works.Ifitstill does not work,try Searching For Your Code.

6. For future reference,write your

SEARCHING FOR YOUR CODE

If your home entertainement device doesnot respond to the DRC450 after tryingall of the codes listed for your brand,orif your brand is not listed at all,trysearching for your code.

For example,after trying all of the codesfor your TV,you still cannot get theDRC450 to operate your TV,then:

1. Turn on your TV.

2. On the DRC450,press and holdTV(at least 6 seconds) until you seethe programming mode start.Eachofthe mode key lights will turn off and on sequentially,starting withAUDIO on through TV,and thesequence will repeat twice.Duringthis time,release TV and wait untilit’s lit continuously.

 NOTE:Inthesearchmode,the DRC450willsendIRcodesfromitslibrarytotheselectedcomponent,startingwith themostpopularcodes first.Whenthedevicerespondstoa subsequentkeycommand(e.g.,POWER  ),the correct devicecodewill befound.

4. Press POWER once.The TV key willlight on and off,showing that anIR code has been sent.

5. Ifyour television does not turn off,press the (Up) cursor key onceagain to call up the next IR codeand press POWERonce again.

6. Ifyour television still does notturn off,repeat step 5 as manytimes as needed until your TVturns off.

7. When your television does turn off,a working code has been found.Press OK once to save the code andtheTV key will blink three times,confirming the selection.

8. To search for the codes ofyourother devices,repeat steps 1through 7,but substitute theappropriate mode key (i.e.,VCR/DVD,CABLE,or AUDIO) for thedevice you are searching for.

CHECKING THE CODESIf you have set up the DRC450 using theSearching For Your Code procedure,youmay need to find out which four-digitcode is operating your equipment.

Perform the following procedure afteryou have set up your devices to find outwhich four-digit code is operating yourequipment.For example,to find outwhich code is operating your TV:

1. Turn on your TV.

2. On the DRC450,press and holdTV(at least 6 seconds) until you seethe mode light sequence start.Each ofthe mode key lights willturn off and on sequentially,start-ing with AUDIO on through TV,andwill repeat twice.During thesequence,release the TV key andwait until it stays lit continually.

3. Press 9 - 9 - 0.The TV key willblink three times.

4. To view the code for the first digit,press and release 1.Count thenumber of TV key blinks (e.g.,3blinks =3) and write down thenumber in the leftmost TV codebox in step 6 of  Programming Device Control .

 NOTE:Themodekeywillnotblinkif thecodedigitisa“0”.

5. Repeat step 4 three more times foreach successive digit by pressingand releasing 2, 3,and then 4.Finish writing down the TV codein the remaining TV code boxes.

6. To check for the codes ofyourother devices,repeat steps 1through 5,only substitute theappropriate mode key (i.e.,VCR/DVD, CABLE, or AUDIO) for thedevice you are checking.Writedown the codes in the appropriate

device code boxes (see step 6 of Programming Device Control ).

CHANGING VOLUME LOCK 

Your new DRC450 is set to control thevolume ofa device through its associatedmode(i.e., through the Motorolainteractive digital terminal in the Cablemode,through the TV in the TV mode,through the VCRor DVD player in theVCR/DVD mode,an d through theaudiodevice in the Audio mode).If your TV isnot remote controllable,or if you wouldlike the volume to be controlled by a dif-ferent device, you can change the VolumeLock setting to control a volume througha non-associated mode (e.g., throughthe  Motorola interactive digital terminal in the TV mode).

Changing the Volume Lock setting to

the Cable,VCR/DVD,or TV mode willchange the volume control for all modesexcept Audio, which will continue tocontrol its own volume.If you changethe Volume Lock setting to the Audiomode,all modes (i.e.,Audio.,Cable,VCR/DVD,and TV) will be controlled bythe Audio mode.

To Change The Volume Lock SettingTo Another Mode:

1. On the DRC450,press and hold amode key (i.e., AUDIO,VCR/DVD,CABLE,or TV) for at least 6 seconds,until you see the programmingmode start. Each mode key lightwill turn off and on sequentially,starting with AUDIO on through TV,and the sequence will repeat twice.At this time,release the mode key

and wait until it’s lit continuously.

2. Press and releaseVOLUME +.

3. The mode key’s light will blinkthree times,indicating volume hasbeen locked to the selected mode.

4. Now,whenever you pressVOLUME+ , VOLUME -,or MUTEon the DRC450,volume will becontrolled by selected mode,independent ofthe current mode.

To Unlock Volume Lock:

1. On the DRC450,press and hold amode key (at least 6 seconds) untilyou see the programming modestart.Each mode key light will turnoffand on sequentially,startingwith AUDIO on through TV,and thesequence will repeat twice.Duringthis time, release the mode key andwait until it’s lit continuously.

2. Press and releaseVOLUME-

.

3. The mode key light will blink threetimes,indicating volume has beenunlocked for the selected mode.

4. Now,whenever you pressVOLUME+ , VOLUME -,or MUTE onthe DRC450,the volume controlswill reset to their original device.

TROUBLESHOOTING

PROBLEM: A mode key does notblink or blinks 2 timeswhen you press a key.

SOLUTION: Replace the batteries withtwo (2) new AA alkalinebatteries.

PROBLEM: A mode key blinks whenyou press a key,but home

entertainment componentdoes not respond.

SOLUTION: Make sure the DRC450 isaimed at your homeentertainment deviceand is not farther than15 feet away.
