OTHER CASES

• Masculines ending in –a: el día, el sofá, el tranvía, el pijama.

• Feminines ending in –o: la mano, la foto, la moto, la radio.

• Nouns ending in –e that can be masculine or feminine: el coche, la leche, el diente, la nube, el pendiente, la fuente.

• Two different words for masculine and feminine: el caballo/la yegua.

• Invariable nouns: el/la artista, el/la turista, el/la estudiante.

• Compound nouns are masculine. The singular and plural forms are the same: el/los cumpleaños, el/los paracaídas, el/los sacacorchos

• Languages are masculine: el inglés, el francés.

The word for ‘A’, ‘AN’, ‘A FEW’ and ‘SOME’ also depends on whether the noun it goes with is masculine or feminine, singular or plural.

LOS COLORESColours are ADJECTIVES. When they describe a noun, they agree with its GENDER and NUMBER.

So, red is rojo, but becomes roja with a feminine noun, eg la pelota roja.negro, negra, blanco, blanca, amarillo, amarilla, morado, morada..

Some colours don’t change their endings to match the GENDER:naranja: el bolso naranja rosa: la camisa rosamarrón: la hoja marrón azul: el cielo azulverde: el campo verde gris: la nube gris

Look out for the order of the I and E in some of the numbers. It's sIEte and dIEz but sEIs.

Numbers are useful for quantities, measurements, distances, time and ages.

Look out for the number 1. “UNO” is the name of the number, but if it goes with a noun it can be UN or UNA, depending on the gender: Un hombre. Una mujer.
