A CARADURA é a primeira mostra inter-nacional inteiramente dedicada a filmes que revelam o universo da Arte Urbana, trazendo ao público carioca um amplo panorama da produção audiovisual so-bre o tema a partir da década de 80 até os dias atuais.

O graffiti - tal qual a “rebelião dos signos” profetizada ainda em 1979 por Jean Bau-drillard e hoje expandido a variadas rami-ficações estéticas - invadiu, humanizou e transformou o espaço público urbano, sen-do considerado uma das expressões cultu-rais e artísticas mais impactantes e admira-das em todo o mundo.

Ser “caradura” é ser atrevido, ousado, cara de pau. O cinema talvez tenha sido a úni-ca ferramenta capaz de capturar a auten-ticidade da atitude de um artista de rua ao enfrentar o ambiente ao seu redor. Por isso, a CARADURA apresenta uma paleta diversi-ficada de retratos da cultura urbana em di-ferentes lugares e épocas, contados através de múltiplas formas narrativas.

A programação traça um grande panorama histórico e social, com a exibição de clássicos do estilo e obras de cineastas consagrados, exibidas em diversos festivais de cinema pelo mundo. Imagens que se constroem e se recriam a partir de outras imagens, filmes que dialogam com os contextos econômi-cos, sociais e estéticos de seu tempo, alguns

deles exibidos pela primeira vez no Brasil com legendas em português.

São mais de trinta obras entre curtas e longas metragens, documentários, ficções, animações e filmes experimentais. Haverá ainda a realização de dois debates com a presença do curador Pablo Aravena, realiza-dor e produtor chileno radicado no Canadá.

CARADURA é uma mostra de filmes que pri-vilegia o que há de mais autêntico na Arte Urbana contemporânea: sua ousadia e re-beldia. Um convite à contemplação do caos e da poesia que explodem do movimento dos grandes centros urbanos, revelando a essência da interação entre o homem, a arte e o espaço público.

CARADURA is the first international festival de-voted entirely to films that reveal the world of Urban Art, bringing to Rio’s public a wide pan-orama of the audiovisual works on the theme – from the 80’s to the present day.

Graffiti art – just like the “signs rebellion” prophesied in 1979 by Jean Baudrillard and now expanded to various aesthetic ramifica-tions - invaded, humanized and transformed the urban public space, and is considered one of the most impactful and admired cultural and artistic expressions throughout the world.

To be “caradura” is to be bold, daring, shame-less. Film has perhaps been the only tool ca-pable of capturing the authenticity of a street artist’s attitude as he faces the environment that surrounds him. Therefore, CARADURA presents a diverse palette of portraits of urban culture in different places and times, explained through multiple narrative forms.

The program draws a large social and historical panorama, with the screening of classics of the genre and works of established filmmakers, screened in various film festivals around the world. Images that are constructed and recre-ated from other images, movies that dialogue with the economical, social and aesthetic con-texts of it’s time, some of them exhibited for the first time in Brazil with Portuguese subtitles.

There are more than thirty works, including short and feature films, documentaries, fiction,

animation and experimental films. There will also be two debates held with the presence of the curator Pablo Aravena, a Chilean filmmaker and producer based in Canada.

CARADURA is a showcase of films that focus on what is most authentic in contemporary Urban Art: it’s daring and rebelliousness. An invitation to contemplate the chaos and poetry that explodes from the movement of large ur-ban centers, revealing the essence of the in-teraction between man, art and public space.

Fiquei encantado quando fui convidado pela equipe da Arissas Multimídia para fazer a curadoria da primeira edição da CARADURA. Tenho um longo caso de amor com o Brasil e sua cultura urbana desde quando visitei o país pela primeira vez, em 2003. Naquela época, acompanhei o autên-tico e poderoso movimento de arte de rua brasileiro conquistando seu lugar na cena mundial, representando a ascensão do país e do continente latino americano.Tive algumas experiências anteriores com festivais de filmes sobre Arte Urbana, fazen-do a curadoria de uma série de filmes para a exposição Street Art, na Tate Modern, em Londres (2008) e como realizador no exce-lente Rythm of the Line, em Berlim (2006). Através dessa experiência, quis trazer para a CARADURA uma seleção de filmes que cobrisse as múltiplas facetas em transfor-mação da cultura mundial da arte de rua. Uma cultura que cresce rápida e exponen-cialmente da rua para as galerias de arte e que, atualmente, atinge o mainstream com artistas como Banksy, Os Gemeos e Shepard Fairey. Por outro lado, uma cultura que per-manece underground: o lugar onde nasceu é o mesmo de onde tira sua força.A tensão entre esse dois pólos é o que torna a arte urbana empolgante e contemporâ-nea. Sua habilidade para ser rebelde e, ao mesmo tempo, comercial, nos faz lembrar a Pop Art, repaginada com uma sensibilidade 2.0. Como público admirador e consumidor,

temos o privilégio de observar esse jovem movimento artístico crescer e evoluir junto com os artistas.Para a edição inaugural da CARADURA, criei algumas sessões que ajudaram a classificar e organizar os filmes. O programa Mundo exibe filmes que retratam o aspecto global da cultura da Arte Urbana. O programa Perfil nos permite conhecer a fundo alguns personagens interessantes. O programa Drama apresenta filmes narrativos e aponta como alguns diretores de cinema de ficção abordaram a temática. O programa Cida-des retrata a cena particular de algumas das maiores capitais do mundo, revelando como os centros urbanos são combustíveis poderosos para a criatividade. Neste pro-grama, também veremos alguns dos filmes nacionais que abordaram a temática, refle-tindo a importância crescente da produção audiovisual brasileira sobre Arte Urbana. Por fim, o programa Curtas, dedicado ao formato curta-metragem, com belos traba-lhos feitos tanto por artistas quanto por di-retores de cinema.Acreditamos que o Rio de Janeiro é um óti-mo palco para abrigar a primeira edição da CARADURA e para compartilhar um diálogo com a rua e sua arte. Esperamos provocar discussões e intercâmbio de experiências, de forma a apontar a importância cultural da Arte Urbana para a sociedade, bem como sua inspiração para o fazer cinematográfico.

I was delighted when I was invited by the Aris-sas Multimedia team to curate the 1st edition of the CARADURA Urban Arts Film Festival. I have a long-standing love affair with Brazil and Brazil-ian urban culture since I first came here in 2003. In that time, I have seen this authentic and powerful movement getting known worldwide, representing the rising nation of Brazil and the rising continent of Latin America.

I have had previous experience with urban art film festivals twice before, having curated a film series as part of the Street Art exhibition at the Tate Moder,n in London (2008) and participated as a filmmaker in the excellently curated Rhythm of the Line Festival, in Berlin (2006). With this experience behind me, I wanted to bring a se-lection of films for CARADURA that would cover the multiple changing facets of the world cul-ture of graffiti and street art. This is a culture is growing exponentially, going from the street to the gallery very quickly. It is now going main-stream worldwide with artists like Banksy, Os Gemeos and Shepard Fairey becoming house-hold names. This is as culture that remains un-derground as well: from there it was born and from there it draws its strength.

The tension between these two poles are what keep street art exciting and contemporary. Its ability to be rebellious

yet become commercial reminds us of Pop Art, but with a 2.0 sensibility. As

the members of the public, we have the privi-lege of watching this young art

movement grow and evolve as its artists do.

For this inaugural edition of CARADURA, I have created a few different sections to classify and help organize our films. The All World section showcases films that portray the world culture aspect of street art and graffiti. The artist Profile section comprises of films that allows us to get more in depth with some compelling charac-ters. In the Drama section, we feature narrative films about graffiti and how fiction film direc-tors have tackled this subject matter. As well we have the Citystyles section, featuring films about one particular city scene. These films give us a view of how city scenes create a powerful fuel for creativity. This section also showcases the most compelling national films about the sub-ject matter, reflecting the growing importance and quality of films about graffiti being created in Brazil. Lastly, the Short Film section, in which we have great shorts made by artists and film-makers, which will be screened at the beginning of our features.

We believe that Rio de Janeiro is a great stage to create the first edition of CARADURA and to share in a dialogue with the streets and its art. With this festival, we hope to generate discu-ssion and exchange about street art and its importance to society, as well as its inspiration for filmmaking.

“Style Wars” captura o visual arruinado do sistema de metrô de Nova York como playground, campo de batalha e tela artís-tica para jovens grafiteiros. O graffiti, que florescia nos metrôs há mais de uma década, estava a ponto de chamar a atenção do cenário artístico internacional, em virtude da liberdade inventiva com que estes jovens artistas começaram a pintar. Style Wars captures the look and feel of New York’s ramshackle subway system as graffiti writers’ public playground, battleground and spectacular artistic canvas. Graffiti, which had been flourishing on the subways for more than a decade, was about to catch the attention of the international art scene by virtue of the free-form inventiveness with which these youthful artists set about painting. Opposing them by ev-ery means possible were the Mayor, the NYPD, and the New York Transit Authority.

Tony Silver

Tony Silver era nativo de Nova York, onde fre-quentou a Universidade de Columbia e começou uma breve carreira como ator, antes de se tornar o principal realizador independente de trailers de filmes na costa leste dos Estados Unidos. Ele começou a fazer filmes em 1970, enquanto conti-nuava a criar trailers premiados, efeitos especiais e comerciais. Tony faleceu em 2008.

Tony Silver, who passed away in 2008, was a native of New York City, where he attended Columbia Uni-versity and briefly pursued an acting career, before becoming the leading independent maker of movie trailers on the east coast. He began making films in 1970, while continuing to create award-winning trailers, special effects and commercials.

Seguindo os artistas fora-da-lei pelos trilhos até as discotecas, o filme atinge o clímax em uma grande jam ao ar livre: definitivamente, a festa de hip-hop mais famosa da história.

“Wild Style” tells the story of Zoro played by the graffiti legend Lee Quinones, in his subway art romance with the graffiti queen Sandra Pink Fabara. Following the outlaw artists from the train yards to the clubs, the film climaxes at a massive outdoor jam, definitely the most famous hip-hop party in history.

Charlie Ahearn

Wild Style foi exibido publicamente pela primeira vez em 1982 e se tornou um grande clássico entre os filmes de hip-hop. Após dirigir outros filmes, como “Fear of Fiction” e documentários de artis-tas, Ahearn foi o co-autor do livro “Yes Yes Y’all”, uma história oral da primeira década do hip-hop com muitas fotos presentes em “Wild Style The Sampler”. Ahearn vem produzindo documen-tários como “Richard Hunt Sculptor” e “Jamel Shabazz Street Photographer” e curtas musicais de hip hop, como “All city take it to the bridge”. Ahearn reside em Nova York.

Wild Style, directed by Charlie Ahearn, was first screened in 1982 and went on to become the clas-sic hip-hop movie. After directing other films such as Fear of Fiction and artist documentaries, Ahearn co-authored the book Yes Yes Y’all, an oral history of the first decade of hip-hop with many photos by Ahearn and Wild Style The Sampler. Ahearn has been pro-ducing documentaries such as Richard Hunt Sculptor, 2010; Jamel Shabazz: Street Photographer, 2012; and Hip Hop Musical Shorts. His latest is All City Take It To The Bridge. Entre seus filmes anteriores, incluem-se “Better Living Through Circuitry”, um documen-tário bem-humorado e divertido sobre a explosão da cultura rave e “Cleopatra’s Second Husband”, um drama psicológico sombrio. Reiss também dirigiu vídeos para o Nine Inch Nails, The Black Crowes, Danzig, Slayer e os Kottonmouth Kings.

Jon Reiss has produced and directed three feature films, most recently “Bomb It”, about graffiti and the battle over visual public space throughout the world. “NEXT: A Primer on Urban Painting” is a docu-mentary that explores the graffiti-based visual art as a world culture. The filmmaker profiles the art form in nine countries including USA, Cana-da, France, Holland, Germany, England, Spain, Japan and Brazil. A combination of “vérité” mo-ments and interviews with painters, “writers”, designers, documentary filmmakers and other participants within the subculture, the film con-veys the dynamism and creative energy of this significant emerging artistic movement.

Interessado em explorar as múltiplas dimensões da cultura urbana através da realização audiovi-sual em ficção e documentário, Pablo é cineasta e curador de Arte Urbana, radicado em Montreal. Em 1997, graduou-se em Produção Audiovisual pela Concordia University. Ocupou vários cargos como freelancer na indústria do cinema e da te-levisão canadense, além de dirigir curtas metra-gens e videoclipes. Atualmente, desenvolve dois projetos de longa metragem e um documentário.

Presently interested in exploring the multiple dimen-sions of urban culture through fiction and documentary filmmaking, Pablo is a Montreal-based filmmaker and Street Art Curator. In 1997, he graduated from Concor-dia University’s Film Production Program. He has held various positions as a freelancer in the film and televi-sion industry. He has also directed short films and music videos. He is currently in development with two fea-ture-film projects and a feature-length documentary.

Anne Burger e Benjamin Cantu

Anne Bürger estudou Ciências do Teatro, História da Arte, Literatura Alemã e Filologia Italiana na Universidade LMU, em Munique. Trabalhou como segunda assistente de direção no Residenztheater e desde 2000 estuda no Departamento de Cinema-tografia e Documentário do Hochschule für Fern-sehen & Film. Em 2005, participou da ARTERUSH em Paris e da Masterclass em Cinematografia da Kodak, em Budapeste. Benjamin Cantu estudou animação no HFF, em Babelsberg. Em 2003, come-çou a estudar Direção na German Film Academy, em Berlim, onde filma vários curtas e documen-tários. Em 2007, trabalhou como diretor indepen-dente para ARTE e 3sat.

Anne Bürger studied Science of Theatre, History of Art, German Literature and Italian Philology at the University LMU, in Munich. Formerly Second Assistant Director at the Residenztheater München and since 2000 she stu- dies at the Hochschule für Fernsehen & Film München in the Documentary Film and Cinematography depart-ments. In 2005, she was a participant in ARTERUSH in Paris and the KODAK Cinematography Master class, in Budapest. Benjamin Cantu studied animation at the HFF in Babelsberg. In 2003, he began studying directing at the German Film Academy in Berlin, where he shot several shorts and documentaries. In 2007, he began work as an independent director for ARTE and 3sat.

Co-fundador do coletivo cinematográfico Loaded Pictures, seu filme “From here to maternity” foi o verdadeiro hit do Festival Fringe em 2000. Atualmente, Alan trabalha em dois novos projetos de documentário como diretor.

Co-founder of the dynamic film collective Loaded Pictures, his film “From Here to Maternity” became a 2000 Fringe Festival hit. His editing work includes the award-winning feature documentary “One More River” and “Crash of the Century”, a docu-drama for the Discovery Channel. Harry é uma equipe de filmagem em um só ho-mem: durante sete anos, seguiu o assunto “Da-vid Choe” ao redor do mundo, realizando o do-cumentário “Mãos Sujas: A Arte e os Crimes de David Choe”.

Harry Kim is a Los Angeles native. He studied media theory at Pomona College and received his MFA at the School of Cinema-Television. Harry stars in three sea-sons of VBS.tv’s adventure series Thumbs Up!. Harry is the ultimate one-man film crew: he followed subject “David Choe” around the globe for seven years filming this feature documentary.

Oscar dirige um taxi durante 12 horas por dia para ganhar a vida. Constantemente, é atropelado pelo bombardeio publicitário das ruas de Buenos Aires. No porta-malas de seu Peugeot 504 leva garrafas com cola, tinta e recortes de cartazes de papel. Quan-do a bandeira do taxi está livre, pára o carro e intervém em um cartaz publicitário uti-lizando técnicas de colagem e pintura. O documentário resgata a figura de Oscar Brahim, artista que nasce da precária situ-ação sócio-econômica da Argentina nos pri-meiros anos do século 21.

Oscar drives a taxi 12 hours a day. Constantly annoyed with the advertisements polluting the streets of Buenos Aires. In the trunk of his Peu-geot 504 he carries glue bottles, ink and old posters. When the cab is free, he stops the car, borrows a ladder and starts painting and pasting over a commercial advertisement. The documentary presents the character of Oscar Brahim, an artist who emerges from the unsta-ble economic situation in Argentina at the be-ginning of 21st century.

Sergio Morkin

Sergio Morkin nasceu em Buenos Aires e finalizou estudos em Cinema, com especialização em Dire-ção. De 1993 a 1996 trabalhou como professor, cinegrafista e assistente de direção em diversos longas metragens. Em 1999, começou a trabalhar no filme “Oscar”, pelo qual recebeu fundos para finalização na Espanha, Canadá e Argentina. O documentário, premiado em diversos festivais, foi lançado em 2004. Atualmente, Sergio vive no México, onde leciona enquanto desenvolve pro-jetos cinematográficos.

Sergio Morkin was born in Buenos Aires and studied filmmaking, specializing in film and drama direction. From 1993–96, he worked as a professor, camera-man and assistant director in several feature films and documentaries. In 1999 he began work on the docu-mentary “Oscar”, for which he had received funding from institutions in Spain, Canada and Argentina. He completed the award-winning film in 2004. Currently, Morkin lives in Mexico, where between film projects he teaches.

Marker died on July 29, 2012, one day after his 91st birthday.

Benjamin Morgan

Criado na cultura hip-hop de São Francisco, foi preso ainda adolescente por grafitar e participou do grupo de break-dancing Fantastic Fource, de 1984 a 1986. Profissionalmente, é formado em Psicologia e trabalha com crianças em situação de risco. Morgan é um cineasta autodidata e Qua-lidade de vida é seu primeiro longa-metragem. Ele também é o diretor do Festival de Cinema de Eastern Oregon.

Benjamin Morgan grew up in San Francisco hip-hop culture. As a teenager he was arrested for graffiti and his break-dancing crew Fantastic Fource held down the Bay Area from 1984-86. Professionally, he has a degree in Psychology and works with at-risk kids in juvenile hall and residential treatment programs. Morgan is a self-taught filmmaker and Quality of Life is his first feature film. He also runs the Eastern Oregon Film Festival.

Despite the tragic loss of his older brother during a nightly “bombing” foray with his crew, Blest has the same insatiable addic-tion. He is the most wanted writer on the NYPD Vandal Squad’s hit list, and at the same time, is attracting attention from the gallery scene. Things quickly turn ugly when 15-year-old Lune, the youngest member of Blest’s crew, is arrested and brutalized by the NYPD. The crew retaliates by waging an all out “graffiti war,” and when the inevitable confrontation happens, a tragic result pushes Blest to make a decision with di-rection consequences.


Adam Bhala Lough

Formado pela Tisch School of the Arts da Univer-sidade de Nova York, Adam começou sua carreira na indústria do cinema como roteirista, traba-lhando para grandes estúdios e diretores inde-pendentes. Ele é o primeiro cineasta a ter dois fil-mes - ficção e documentário - selecionados para o Festival de Sundance, além de ter emplacado um roteiro no laboratório do mesmo festival.

Graduate of NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, Adam started his career in the film industry as a WGA Screenwriter, working both for the studios and indies, writing for producers and directors. He is the first film-maker to have had both a narrative film and docu-mentary at the Sundance Film Festival, and a screen-play in the Sundance Screenwriter’s Lab.

“Wholetrain” conta a história de um grupo de quatro grafiteiros - David, Tino, Elyas e Achim - que observam as hierarquias, va-lores, regras e códigos da cena do graffiti. Florian Gaag

Nascido em 1971 na Alemanha, vive em Munique e trabalha como roteirista, diretor, músico e pro-dutor. Estudou cinema na Tisch School of the Arts da Universidade de Nova York, havendo realiza-do vários curtas-metragens como diretor e pro-dutor. Em 2001, fundou a produtora Aerodyna-mic Films e em 2004 co-produziu “Wholetrain”, sua estréia na direção, onde também contribuiu com o roteiro e a música. Florian Gaag atualmen-te trabalha em um novo projeto de filme e em projetos musicais.

Born in 1971 in Germany, he lives in Munich and works as a scriptwriter, director, musician and pro-ducer. He studied film at New York University´s Tisch School of the Arts and made many short films as director and producer. In 2001 he founded the film production company Aerodynamic Films and in 2004 co-produced his directorial debut “Wholetrain”, for which he also contributed the screenplay and the mu-sic. Nic Hill começou sua carreira como cineasta em São Francisco em 2003. Desde lá, seu trabalho vem ganhando espaço em redes como PBS, A&E, festivais de filmes ao redor do mundo - como Sundance, Woodstock, DC International, NY Intl Independent e Documenta Madrid - e vários mu-seus em São Francisco, Los Angeles e Nova York. Atualmente, vive e trabalha em Los Angeles como editor e diretor de documentários, ficções e videoclipes.

Nic Hill began his career as a filmmaker in San Fran-cisco in 2003. Since then, his work has appeared on PBS, A&E, and film festivals around the world - such as Sundance, Woodstock, DC International, NY Intl Inde-pendent, Documenta Madrid - and various museums in San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York. Today, he lives and works in Los Angeles as an editor and director of documentaries, features and music videos.

Danny Lee

Nascido em Los Angeles, Danny Lee fez sua es-tréia com o aclamado “Rock Fresh”, um docu-mentário franco sobre grafiteiros que fazem o salto para a arte comercial. Lee posteriormente escreveu e dirigiu “King of Hollywood”, uma co-média de humor negro estrelada por Ice-T. Atual-mente, Lee está dirigindo e produzindo uma sé-rie de documentários sobre os “Brooklyn Nets” e desenvolve um programa com Discovery Channel ambientado no universo dos motoclubes.

Born in Los Angeles, Danny Lee made his feature debut with the critically acclaimed “Rock Fresh”, a candid documentary about graffiti artists making the leap to commercial art. Lee subsequently wrote and directed his narrative debut “King of Hollywood”, a dark comedy starring Ice-T. Currently, Lee is directing/producing a docu-series about the “Booklyn Nets”, and their transition to their new home. Lee is also in development on a show with Discovery set in the world of motorcycle clubs.

Com sua empresa Mutiny Media, Nicholas Han-sen produz e dirige curtas, documentários e nar-rativas crossmedia. “Rash” é seu primeiro longa metragem e foi premiado como Melhor Docu-mentário pelo Círculo de Críticos dos Prêmios da Austrália, em 2005. Em 2011, Nicholas completou o documentário “ Breaking the News”, sobre dois jornalistas timorenses que ainda lutam para re-portar livremente a crise de seu país, um ano após a independência.

With his company Mutiny Media, Nicholas produces and directs shorts, documentaries, crossmedia and online storytelling. Nicholas’s first feature documenta-ry “Rash” was awarded the Best Australian Documen-tary Film from the Critics Circle of Australia Awards in 2005. In 2011 Nicholas completed the one-hour documentary “Breaking the News” about two East timorese journalists who a decade after independence still struggle to freely report the ongoing turmoil of their country.

KROONJUWELEN is a unique document profi-ling the history of graffiti in Amsterdam from late ‘punk’ 70’s to the mid- ‘subway bombed’ 90’s. Reconstructing an emerging subculture where the viewer is led through Amsterdam through interviews with artists such as SHOE, DELTA and HIGH, this film is filled with unprecedented, first-time footage and a soundtrack of original beats.

Suridh Hassan

Natural de Londres e radicado na Indonésia, Su-ridh Hassan é um premiado autor, diretor e do-cumentarista. Atuou como operador de câmera e editor freelance. Em 2006, criou seu estúdio de produção multidisciplinar (The SRK) para se concentrar na produção independente de docu-mentários e publicações. Os filmes de Suridh tem sido apresentados em vários festivais de cinema e seu último documentário longa-metragem “Soka Afrika” (2010) foi ao ar pela Al Jazeera.

Originally from London, Suridh Hassan is an award-winning director, documentary filmmaker and author, currently based in Indonesia. He has worked as a free-lance Cameraman and Editor. In 2006 he set up his own multi-disciplinary production studio (The SRK) to concentrate on independent documentary production and publishing. Suridh Hassan’s feature documenta-ries have been showcased at a number of film festi-vals and his latest feature-length documentary “Soka Afrika” (2010) was aired on Al Jazeera.

João Wainer é fotógrafo e trabalha na Folha de S. Paulo desde 1996. Expôs em 2007 na Bienal de Ima-gens do Mundo, no Musée Quai Branly, em Paris. Ganhou o prêmio FNAC/Fotosite com o trabalho “Marginália” e expôs nas galerias Fnac de Paris, Bordeaux e em cinco capitais brasileiras. Atual-mente, trabalha como editor da TV Folha. Roberto Oliveira é diretor de cena e conteúdo, tendo reali-zado videoclipes, programas de TV e dvds musicais. Trabalhou na agência DPZ, na produtora de áudio MCR e nas redações de programas de televisão nos canais ESPN Brasil e Rede Bandeirantes. Venceu o prêmio de melhor clipe do ano no VMB da MTV em 2003, e de melhor clipe de Rap em 2001. João Wainer is a photographer and works at Folha de S. Paulo since 1996. His photos were exhibited in Mu-see Quai Branly, in Paris, at the World’s Images Bien-nial . Awarded for his work “Marginália”, showcased on Fnac Paris, Bordeaux and 5 cities in Brazil. He is cur-rently working as editor for TV Folha. Roberto Oliveira is a set and content director, working with videocli-pes, TV shows and music dvds. Agnès Varda

Born in Brussels, daughter of a Greek father and four brothers, Agnès Varda is a filmmaker and screenwriter rooted in France. Her first degree was in photography, her passion. She has created shorts, feature-lengths, fictions and documentaries. Agnès Varda was a mem-ber of the jury at the Venice Film Festival in 1983 and at Cannes in 2005. She also won a César d’honneur for her work in 2001.

“Ossário” documenta a primeira de uma sé-rie de intervenções realizadas pelo artista Alexandre Orion nos túneis de São Paulo. Durante 17 madrugadas, utilizando retalhos de pano, ele removeu parte da grossa cama-da de poluição que impregnava as laterais do túnel. Mais de 3500 crânios desenhados a mão se amontoavam para nos lembrar que aquela mesma fuligem negra escurece tam-bém nossos pulmões e nossas vidas. Escavan-do a fuligem, o artista trouxe à tona o sítio arqueológico do futuro.

“Ossário” documents the first of a series of in-terventions by the artist Alexandre Orion inside the tunnels of São Paulo. For 17 nights, using scraps of cloth he removed part of the thick layer of pollution off the walls. Over 3500 hand-drawn skulls appeared and piled up to remind us that the same black soot also darkens our lungs and our lives. Digging the soot, the artist revealed the archaeological site of the future.

Born in Sao Paulo, Alexandre Orion is a multimedia artist and works with urban intervention since 1993. His creations stand out for the high level of creativity and innovative ways he brings art closer to everyday life, appropriating urban space to unfold a deep con-cern about the contemporary world. É diretor, roteirista e produtor indepen-dente, realizou documentários em cinema, vídeo e televisão, ganhando 78 prêmios em festivais na-cionais e internacionais.

Nasceu em 1978 no Rio de Janeiro. Formou-se em História na UERJ, Direção de Fotografia na EICTV (Cuba) e Direção Cinematográfica no IBAV (RJ). Participou do 6° Berlinale Talent Campus, organizado pelo 58º Festival de Berlim. Diretor, diretor de fotografia e roteirista, seus filmes já passaram por Cannes, Clermont-Ferrand, Tiraden-tes, Recife e por mais de cinquenta festivais no Bra-sil e no exterior. O seu longa-metragem ”Lacuna” estréia na 36ª Mostra Internacional de Cinema em São Paulo.

Clarissa Pivetta

Formada em Jornalismo pela UFSC e sócia-fun-dadora da produtora carioca Arissas Multimídia, onde se dedica a cobertura fotográfica e audio-visual da arte urbana brasileira. Seus registros já foram publicados em diversos sites e revistas nacionais e estrangeiras, como a Bravo, Piauí (Brasil) e Artension (França). Desde então, vem sendo convidada a participar de exposições den-tro e fora do país. Em Junho de 2012, através da Aliança Francesa, realizou sua primeira exposição solo em Paris com o projeto “Usina”, durante o Festival Paris Hip-Hop.

Graduated in Journalism at UFSC and founder of the production company Arissas Multimidia in Rio de Ja-neiro, where she is dedicated to audiovisual and pho-tographic coverage of urban art. Her photos have been published on websites and magazines such as Bravo, Piauí (Brasil) and Artension (France). Recently, she has been invited to participate in Brazilian and international photo exhibitions. In June 2012, she presented her first solo exhibition with the project “Usina”, promotedby the French Alliance during the festival Paris Hip-Hop.

A série Motion Paintings do artista norte-americano David Ellis, incluindo “Animal” (2010), “Okay” (2008), e “Bob Floss” (2007), registra a criação de trabalhos murais em time-lapse digitais. Documentando as mar-cas e traços de tinta em paredes, pisos e outras superfícies, a edição minusciosa é coreografada com trilhas sonoras vivas e formam obras de arte muito particulares. Muitas delas apresentam os característicos traços de Ellis, um vestígio dos primeiros passos do artista como grafiteiro.

David Ellis’ signature “Motion Paintings,” inclu-ding “Animal” (2010), “Okay” (2008), and “Bob Floss” (2007), chronicle the creation of large mural works in time-lapse digital video. Docu-menting the accrual of marks and strokes of pigment on walls, floors, and other surfaces, these closely edited videos are choreographed to lively soundtracks and are works of art in their own right. Many display Ellis’ distinctive waveform graphics, a vestige of the artist’s early days as a graffiti writer.

David Ellis

Nascido em 1971, na Carolina do Norte, David Ellis recebeu um BFA da Cooper Union, em Nova York, onde vive e trabalha. Ganhou destaque no início dos anos 2000 como o fundador não-oficial dos célebres Barnstormers, um coletivo de arte conhecido por projetos públicos em pequenas co-munidades da América do Sul. Com uma mescla única de humor e invenção técnica, Ellis canaliza seu amor pela música em uma variedade de gê-neros de arte e mídia, incluindo pintura, escultu-ra e vídeo instalação.

Born in 1971 in North Carolina, David Ellis received a BFA from the Cooper Union in New York City, where he lives and works. He came to prominence in the early 2000s as the unofficial founder of the renowned Barnstormers, an art collective known for public projects in small-town communities in the American South. With his unique blend of humor, and techni-cal invention, Ellis channels his love for music into a variety of art genres and media, including painting, sculpture and video installation.

Jared Levy

Jared Levy nasceu em Nova York e graduou-se em jornalismo e cinema documentário pela Newhou-se School. Jared produziu, dirigiu, filmou e editou o premiado documentário Graffiti Fine Art, que cobre a cena de arte underground de São Pau-lo. Seu trabalho como documentarista também o levou para a Amazônia, Israel e Estados Unidos, onde ele cobriu temas sobre arte, cultura e con-flitos geopolíticos. Radicado em Nova York, atual-mente contribui para coletivos criativos.

Jared Levy is an NYC native and Newhouse School graduate in Journalism and Documentary Film. Jared produced, directed, shot and edited the award-win-ning documentary Graffiti Fine Art, which covers the underground art scene of São Paulo, Brazil. His docu-mentary work also has taken him to the Amazon, Isra-el and the United States, where he has covered topics ranging from art and culture to geopolitical conflict. Currently based in NYC, he now contributes to pro-jects for creative collectives.

Pablo Aravena

Interessado em explorar as múltiplas dimensões da cultura urbana através da realização audiovi-sual em ficção e documentário, Pablo é cineasta e curador de Arte Urbana, radicado em Montreal. Em 1997, graduou-se em Produção Audiovisual pela Concordia University. Ocupou vários cargos como freelancer na indústria do cinema e da te-levisão canadense, além de dirigir curtas metra-gens e videoclipes. Atualmente, desenvolve dois projetos de longa metragem e um documentário.

Presently interested in exploring the multiple dimen-sions of urban culture through fiction and documentary filmmaking, Pablo is a Montreal-based filmmaker and Street Art Curator. In 1997, he graduated from Concor-dia University’s Film Production Program. He has held various positions as a freelancer in the film and televi-sion industry. He has also directed short films and music videos. He is currently in development with two fea-ture-film projects and a feature-length documentary.

Sidney Dore

Começou suas primeiras experiências no cine-ma como iluminador e assistente de fotografia, trabalhando em curtas universitários e no longa “Mea Culpa”, premiado em Cascavel e Arraiá cine-fest. Em 2011, produziu o videoclipe da ban-da Tereza, onde também atuou como assistente de direção. No mesmo ano, dirigiu e fotografou seu primeiro curta metragem, “Intervenha Aqui”, apresentado em festivais dentro e fora do país.

Began in filmmaking as Camera Assistant, working in school films and in the feature “Mea Culpa”, awarded in Cascavel and Arraia Cine-fest. In 2011 produced a music video for Banda Tereza, where he also worked as Assistant Director. In the same year, directed and shot his first short film “Intervention Here”, show-cased in festivals Brazil and internationally.
