Psalm 147: 3 "He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds”
JULY 14, 2019 FIFTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
The Good Samaritan in today’s reading is the prototype of Gospel charity, of service to our “neighbor.” “Good Samaritans” are, quite simply, people who live out the law of Moses, “You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your being, with all your strength, and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.” People who recognize every human being as their neighbor permit nothing, not prejudices, stereotypes, complications or costs, from preventing them hearing their cry for help and responding to their plight.
The parable of the Good Samaritan calls us to embrace a vision of faith that sees every man, woman and child – regardless of whatever labels society has assigned to them – as our “neighbors.” Christ teaches us, his disciples, to look beyond what divides us from one another and to focus on what unites us; to put aside our own needs and wants; to embrace the needs and wants of others; to see our own wealth as a means to bring healing and hope into the lives of those who have little.
Jesus asks the lawyer, “Which of these three, in your opinion, was neighbor to the man who fell in with robbers?” The lawyer answered, “The one who treated him with mercy.” It would seem that in asking the lawyer this question, Jesus was saying to him, “You asked me, ‘who was my neighbor?’ That was the wrong question. The question you should have asked me was; ‘to whom can I BE neighbor?’ And the answer to that question is, ‘the first poor person you meet on the road.’ “ Every day, we encounter people who are in a ditch of discouragement, who have been beaten and bruised by the abuse and anger of others, who have been left near dead in frustrating hopelessness. We don’t have to look very far to find such “victims” and we can become Good Samaritans by extending to them compassion, understanding and a support.

Immaculate Heart of Mary Statue Has Arrived!
Our new Immaculate Heart of Mary Statue has arrived and is in an alcove in the St. Dymphna Center. This new statue joins the existing Sacred Heart of Jesus Statue already in the St. Dymphna Center. The St. Martin de Porres statue is now back in the church where he belongs. Many thanks to the donors who donated this new statue. The tradition of the church is to place the most important figure to the left when looking forward. Jesus is God so goes to the left while Mary goes to the right. In the church, Mary is to the left while Joseph is to the right since Mary is Mother of God.
Welcome Father Justin!
