• LiDAR involves the direct measurement of terrain from an airborne platform. • Most LiDAR units employ the same principle whereby a laser is directed at a

rotating prism which directs the beam towards the ground.• The unit receives the reflected light from the ground and calculates the

distance from the aircraft by determining the time taken for the laser light to travel from the aircraft to the surface and back again.

• LiDAR emite ~ 50 000 pulsos por segundo, e gera +/- 50 mil pontos cotados por segundo, enquanto o avião se movimento.

• Um mecanismo de espelho permite direcionar os pulsos de Laser em várias direções.

Pós-processamento de LIDAR• The LiDAR itself has no “intelligence” and cannot, on its own,

determine what is above ground and what is the surface itself.

• To separate the “above ground” and “ground” features a post processing algorithm is required which is dependent on what data is recorded. Typically an analysis is done by stepping through the recorded surface and looking for rapid changes in height which cannot reasonably be expected in a natural surface. These points would then be classed as “above ground” features.
