En Agosto de 2010, a Corte Interamericana de Derechos Humanos ordenó a reaización inmediata de una investigación ehaustiva e imparcia por parte de as autoridades civies, sore a vioación y maos tratos sufridos por Inés Fernández Ortega y Vaentina Rosendo, y que es fuese garantizada una compensación adecuada y protección efectiva. Me dirijo a su Eceencia para soicitar que garantice e acatamiento de a decisión vincuante de a Corte Interamericana. Respectfully, Your Ecellency, I am concerned that more than 200,000 peope in the Port Harcourt’s aterfront communities are at risk of forced evictions. In particuar I am concerned ith the possiiity of the authorities to continue with the planned demolitions without rst implementing adequate human rights safeguards, such as consuting the residents and provide them compensation, aternative accommodation or ega remedies, as required y internationa human rights standards. Therefore, I oud ike to appea to your Eceency to adopt and impement a nationa housing poicy that i ensure adequate provision of housing to Nigerians and, unti then, to decare a moratorium on evictions of communities in Nigeria. These measures are needed to sove the situation of thousands of peope ho are at risk of ecoming homeess. The comination of hazardous forced aor, ack of food, eatings, inadequate medica care and unhygienic iving conditions resut in chronic iness and many times in the death of the prisoners. Therefore I ca on Your Eceency to immediatey cose Yodok camp as e as a poitica prison camps, reeasing ithout deay and unconditiona y a prisoners of conscienc e hed in these paces, incuding reatives hed in the asis of “guity-y- association”. I aso ca on Your Eceency to immediatey stop a eecutions, ausive forced aor, torture and i-treatment of the detainees.
