LITERACY IS SOMETHING NOT EVERY COUNTRY GETS TO ENJOY. SINGAPORE IS A PRIVILEGED 1ST WORLD COUNTRY WHICH MANY PEOPLE CAN WORK, STUDY AND LIVE IN SAFELY WITH LITTLE DANGERS OR HARDSHIPS.

HOWEVER, THERE ARE MANY OTHER PEOPLE IN THIRD WORLD COUNTRIES THAT DO NOT HAVE THE PRIVILEGE OF BEING ABLE TO SPEAK ENGLISH, OR EVEN STUDY. COUNTRIES SUCH AS AFRICA, INDIA, OR CAMBODIA ARE EXAMPLES OF SUCH. MANY CHILDREN AND ADULTS ARE TOO POOR TO AFFORD EDUCATION IN THESE COUNTRIES ANDHENCE LIVE A TOUGH LIFE EITHER WORKING A SIMPLE AND LOW PAYING JOB SUCH AS FARMING OR AS A LABOURER.

Effects Of The Lack Of Literacy

Children who receive a poor education have fewer job opportunities. As the pool of workers who have a poor education grows, the pool of skilled workers shrinks. This causes money to be pulled from the economy and causes it to start to fail over time, allowing poverty to start.

Other effect is that a lack of education would cause a decline in health.This is because people do not take care of themselves as they are less educated about topics such as family planning and proper hygiene. They will then form unhygienic habits, which may harm their health.

Teaching LiteracyTEACHING LITERACY IS ANOTHER DIFFICULTY COUNTRIES IN POVERTY HAVE TO DEAL WITH. IN SINGAPORE, WE CAN EASILY Go TO A SCHOOL AND IMMEDIATELY GET A TEACHER TO TEACH US.

HOWEVER, COUNTRIES SUCH AS LAOS, AFRICA, INDIA AND MANY OTHERS DO NOT HAVE ANY TEACHERS TO TEACH LITERACY. LITERACY IS A RIGHT AND SHOULD BE A BASIC SKILL THAT EVERYONE SHOULD HAVE. WITH THE LACK OF TEACHERS WITH A HIGH LITERACY RATE IN SUCH COUNTRIES, THE AMOUNT OF STUDENTS WHO WILL LEARN LITERACY WILL BE EXTREMELY LOW.

WE COULD HELP BY SENDING TEACHERS TO SUCH COUNTRIES IN ORDER TO LET THEM LEARN LITERACY. THIS WOULD DEFINITELY HELP CHILDREN TO IMPROVE AND BE ABLE TO GET A JOB IN THE FUTURE.

John Woodjohn wood is an ENTREPRENEUR THAT CREATED A MOVEMENT CALLED ROOM TO READ. ROOM TO READ IS A MOVEMENT THAT INVOLVES A NON-PROFITABLE ORGANISATION THAT IS FOCUSED ON HELPING COUNTRIES WITH LOW LITERACY RATES AND ALSO GENDER-EQUALITY. ROOM TO READ IS AN ORGANISATION THAT INVOLVES 10 COUNTRIES IN 2 CONTINENTS.

HE WROTE A BOOK CALLED , ‘CREATING ROOM TO READ: A STORY OF HOPE IN THE BATTLE FOR GLOBAL LITERACY.’ THIS BOOK WAS WRITTEN TO RAISE AWARENESS FOR CHILDREN WHO DO NOT HAVE THE PRIVILEGE TO LEARN LITERACY. HE WANTS TO LET THE WHOLE WORLD BE ABLE TO HAVE LITERACY.

HE ALSO DONATED 3000 BOOKS TO A SCHOOL, AND LEFT HIS JOB AT MICROSOFT IN ORDER TO HELP DONATE BOOKS TO CHILDREN IN NEPAL FULL-TIME. HE MADE A BIG SACRIFICE BY DOING AS SUCH. HE COULD HAVE BEEN MAKING A HUGE AMOUNT OF MONEY BUT DECIDED TO HELP NEEDY CHILDREN INSTEAD.

International Literacy FoundationTHE INTERNATIONAL LITERACY FOUNDATION IS AN INDEPENDENT , INTERNATIONAL NON-PROFITABLE ORGANISATION FOUNDED IN 2010 BY MOAAD TAUFIQ, BATOOL TAUFIQ , TARIQ VAN DER LOO, LEWIS GRANDINETTI AND OLIVER MULLER. THIS ORGANISATION HAS THE AIM OF TACKLING ILLITERACY GLOBALLY, IN AN ATTEMPT TO IMPROVE LIVING STANDARDS AROUND THE WORLD.

THEY DONATE EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS SUCH AS BOOKS AND COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY. THEY ARE TRYING TO DEVELOP AND EXPAND LIBRARY FACILITIES. THEY WANT TO IMPROVE THE LITERACY RATES THROUGHOUT THE WORLD, ALLOWING EVERYONE TO BE ABLE TO HAVE LITERACY. THIS WILL ALLOW CHILDREN TO BE ABLE TO HAVE A PROPER JOB SO THAT THEY CAN PROVIDE FOR THEIR FAMILIES.

How Can We Help?THERE CAN BE MANY WAYS THAT WE CAN HELP. WE COULD HELP BY SENDING TEACHERS TO THESE COUNTRIES TO HELP THEM LEARN LITERACY. IF WE HAD ANY ACCESS BOOKS THAT WE DO NOT NEED OR ARE NOT REQUIRED, WE COULD DONATE IT TO CHARITY, WHICH WOULD SEND THINGS TO THEM. THIS MAY IMPROVE THEIR LIVING CONDITION.

THEY WILL ALSO BE ABLE TO LEARN NEW THINGS BY READING THE BOOKS THAT ARE DONATED BY US. IF WE ALL MAKE AN EXCEPTION TO HELP THESE PEOPLE, THEIR HOME WILL BE A BETTER PLACE. WE COULD ALSO GO ON MISSIONARY TRIPS TO HELP THEM IMPROVE THEIR LIVING CONDITIONS WHICH WOULD INDIRECTLY HELP THEM STUDY MORE EASILY. THIS JUST A FEW OF MANY WAYS WE CAN HELP THESE PEOPLE WITH A LOW RATE OF LITERACY.

How Can We Help? THese are more ways which we can help the children in need, we can set up donations drives for items that can help benefit them in their studies,such as donating books and other thing like food that will allow them to concentrate on their studies and will be able to have food as well.
