Don Benito is situated in the south-west of Spain, in Extremadura, near Portugal. It is in the High Meadow of the river Guadiana, in the province of Badajoz. It has got a population of 38,000 inhabitants. Its climate is subtropical. Winters are mild and summers are dry and hot..In the centre and in the north of Extremadura, plains and mountains are the most common geographical features.

Virgen de las Cruces Chapel: the Patron Saint of the city, on 12th October we celebrate the festival of La Vel.

There, you can find the town council

Santiagos Church, 16th-17th centuryCasa de Cultura (House of Culture), a building designed by the famous architect Rafael Moneo. Inside, you can find the municipal library, the tourist offfice, a gallery and an exhibition hall.

Ethnographic (an old Palace-House that belonged to the Counts of Los Campos de Orellana)

Ave Mara Art School, a cultural place where there are musical performances and artist exhibitions. Nowadays it is the head office of the Don Benito Municipal Band.

Our school:Donoso Corts Secondary School

Juan Donoso Corts, Marquess of Valdegamas, was a very important thinker, politician and Spanish writer in the 19th century.

The school was built during the school year 1955-56. The current building was opened in 1967.

At the beginnning, the school was only for male students. In the school year 1965-66 it started to be a coeducational school.
